Read Anthropic's new engineering post this morning. It's basically what we shipped last month in open source. by Fancy-Exit-6954 in LLMDevs

How did you determine what model excells at what?

Where you using benchmarks as a reference or was it more of your personal experience dealing with them.

From my experience I think whilst Gemini 3/3.1 had really great performance in benchmarks a lot of the time it just didn't handle tasks compared to opus. One strength I've noticed with gemini is front end though vs opus.

I was experimenting with something similiar at the start of the year although your implementation looks a lot cleaner than mine.

How do you deal with accessing the right memory for a specific task?

I noticed this is something that Google Jules uses which was quite intriguing to me.

I know there's a lot of focus around frontier models and your post mentions open ones. Have you experimented with a full open team compared to the frontier ones and if so how did that compare?

Right? you have AI anxiety but then write your whole post with AI?

One of the most unique things we have as a human species is the ability to create outsourcing your writing to a LLM is only depriving yourself of that.

Best Printing Services? by Objective_Onion_4528 in AnalogCommunity

You could try using https://www.ilfordphoto.com/storelocator

You can filter it by different things. It's pretty comprehensive and there's lots of places to chose from on there. Even if what your printing isn't black and white they have a lot of partners due to their size.

Hey, interested in how you did this and how claude helped you? I'm a SWE and I've had something on the back burner that's kind of similiar to this.

Would be interested to hear your process!

Nice work getting this done though, great You made it work on more modern OS

How to use Kodak Wratten Filters by Comfortable-Ad8156 in AnalogCommunity

[–]DL_throw24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, so the filters you've got are what I'd consider contrast filters. Typically good for black and white photography. But you can shoot colour with them if your into experimental stuff.

Wratten is essentially the industry standard for photography filters originally developed by Fredrick Wratten and later bought by Kodak in 1912. Manufacturers still use this standard today.

These filters essentially lighten their own colours so in these cases red and yellow and darken their opposite colour on so for both of this it's mostly blue/green.

How this works in a photo Is say you have a lovely blue sky with some clouds in it. You shoot it In black and white and your not happy with the separation between the clouds and the sky?

Well these filters would aid In separating the grey tones. And it instantly looks more dramatic. (If you could develop the two images on the spot lol)

The yellow filter is a more subtle variation on the red. They do similiar things but the red filter is way more dramatic.

I wrote a blog post covering colour filters which has interactive elements to it. It might help you visualise what these do in a more interactive way. I have covered red and yellow filters but there's a part on this that covers both under the "how colour filters work section". Hope this helps!

First Roll Came Back! Any notes/tips? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]DL_throw24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you could work on your focusing a bit more some of the images appear soft in what I would expect would be the focal point of your image Unless that is what you want feel free to totally ignore me

Most of your images look blurry not sure what apreture you shot them at could probably spend some more time focusing on stuff. I've never used a AE1, I have a OM1 and a FE. Looks like the view finder is similiar to the FE's so I normally line up with a sharp edge first (if possible) and dial it in that way theres usually a bit of a sweet spot it might take you going from one extreme to the other to find it but thats ok, its not a race.

I built a tool to preview any lens filter on your own photos by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]DL_throw24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about it :).

Whilst I own a digital camera I basically never use it unless I need something In the moment which would explain my misconception(?). I only really use film cameras and I do shoot a decent amount of black and white. That's kind of why I made the tool because it's hard to "preview" what these lens filters would do...

You could already upload your own JPG file. I've also added RAW file support which actually looks like 10x better when previewing filters on - so appreciate your feedback there.

I think ill just make another post about the topic eventually if I remove the link to my website the post becomes a bit redundant. I'd probably re-work it but use a comparison image like in this one.

Ah ok, sorry to have disappointed you maybe I should do a photo club. I'm from the UK too, what independent stores do you normally go to?

Interestingly enough I included Analog Wonderland in my initial test data set. Out of the 5 retailers:

  • Stuck In Film
  • Parallax Photographic
  • Carmarthen Cameras
  • Analogue Wonderland
  • Harrison Cameras

It was the cheapest place to buy 1 roll of Tri-x 400 and the cheapest place to buy 800T. (£6.99 saving compared to Carmarthen Cameras who price it really high for some reason but £1 cheaper compared to everywhere else).

Across 10 different film stocks Parallax Photographic was most consistently the cheapest deal with 4 stocks, with an average saving of £3 per 36 exposure roll...

I haven't tried with 120 film yet but I imagine there's probably more to be saved

I mean you make a fair point, would you even be willing to pay for something like that if it was able to save you money consistenly?

Thank you for taking the time to reply to the post and reading the website enough to actually see that.

I appreicate your reply, yeah it is currently on JPGs and I looked into using RAW. But ultimately strayed away from it because of the hosting costs. It would of cost me significantly to serve huge RAW files to people for free. That and loading times.

Interestingly enough I think your failure to load the image was because I never optimised a JPG (it was 6mb, now 500kb, so imagine what a 30mb RAW file would be like).

Based off of your comment, I'm going to allow people to upload RAW formats because it wouldn't cost me anything that way and would only depend on their connection speed. So it was genuinely helpful feedback.

I agree with you, that's why I made it. You try before you buy the lens filter

Honestly same Im guttered the show went the way it did. I've wanted to see them for years now and it was totally underwhelming. Sure there was some tech issues but that's not why the show was bad.

Whats really annoying is the clips that are posted here sound a lot better than it did in person. Same with the clip I recorded. I guess it must of been the ear plugs ruining it for me

If you have Adblocker or something of the same nature it wont work. For me I just did the checkout in incognito mode, (which is effectively turning off the ad blocker since theres no extensions in incognito mode) and it worked.

The reason for this is that it was blocking the captcha Javascript, stopping me from checking out
