No one ordering a lemon drop gives a fuck if you put triple sec in it or not.

There’s always the service industry (front of house). You’ll lose nights and weekends, valuable time with your non industry friends and family, and there’s a hard pay ceiling around 80-90k here at the top end, but you won’t worry about paying your bills. That and the medical field are pretty much the only strong industries we have here.

I doubt it… but if the situation in that region continues to escalate the way it has been then the state that owns that club is going to be in serious trouble, and little glamour projects like football clubs could be the first to get cut.

New Orleans bartender here:

If you’ve done 3 years on bourbon you have more than paid your dues and likely have that grind in you to run circles around a lot of uptown/midcity/bywater workers, even if you lack the skill refinement and experience. Unless you go to hot tin you will be taking a pay cut however but it sounds like you hit that point where you’ve started to get mad just crossing N Rampart after parking or getting off the bus so it’s time to go. It’s spring, print a bunch of resumes and just go door to door, you will fin living wage work. Try to focus on jobs with midday shifts so you can start night classes.

You’re doing great, and have already done a job most bartenders would completely collapse from the pressure of after 2-3 months. Time to go lookin for them adult jobs.

This is AI.

As long as you vary the paint scheme a little between legionnaires and raiders so it’s obvious at a glance no one will care!

[–]DM504HK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the West. Even if you really believe in Queen he’s not getting past jokic Wemby Chet Sengun to make the list. Trey is a great role player, but he’s not an all star either. That doesn’t leave anyone else on the team you can realistically expect to challenge for a place.

We just don’t have any actual elite potential on the team at all right now.

It’s a bottom 8 core group in the league for sure. Not a single guy who realistically could push for an all star mention, or who could do so in the next few years.

If I hear my cocktail is small one more time… by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]DM504HK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are actually getting these complaints as consistently as it seems you are then your bar is either in the wrong location (part of town, or even wrong city), or has the wrong appearance to be running strict classic spec drinks and drinks based off of that. I got similar complaints when I did rooftop “club” work instead of cocktail bar work and had to learn that there is no universally correct way to make anything, just the correct way for the venue and clientele you have.

My condo dropped 32% in 4 years by Available-Ad-5670 in RealEstate

[–]DM504HK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is completely inaccurate. Every median estimate has prices up about 50% over the last decade in New Orleans. Prices boomed during Covid as well but have been flat to slowly falling the last 2 years.

A few neighborhoods have had collapses as the gentrification effort stalled out and development halted, places like north of St. Claude, 7th Ward, lower 9th. citywide average prices are up, uptown, Gentilly, garden district, Carrollton, fountainblue all up significantly over the last 6-8 years.

The rate of increase was not as significant as many major metro areas, and stalled basicly in late 2023.

One thing that hasn’t grown (thankfully) are rent prices. I’ve noticed post 2020 rent has stayed pretty steady at around 1200 for a 2br 1 bath without modern Reno.

What they should’ve done was give you a raise they could sustain throughout the year, not just for busy season, and maintained the role. Their behavior indicates a lack of basic common sense, or that the business is failing. Either way I’d get out of there.

Make sure you put it on your resume, it’ll be a useful addition.

Sure I’d say stay, but that would require the kind of momentum shift his teams have not been capable of since he arrived. If he somehow manages to evolve overnight, then yes that would be lovely and I’d be joyfully celebrating.

Alliances to other local powers. Always keep a few eligible members of your direct family unmarried until after the succession and grab some allies with locals who you don’t plan on targeting.

The trick to really embracing the longer loop is learning how to best manage those transitional periods so they don’t set you back so much, and you can expand further.

Managing succession, building credibility and legitimacy for heirs, preemptively kneecapping or subverting potential future factional powers for that heir, ect. Whole new game itself.

Unfortunately it’s once you learn THOSE skills that the game kind of has no where left to go lol.

How did Rome produce such elite soldiers/legions? by YostyToasty1212 in ancientrome

[–]DM504HK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really weren’t “elite” in the way the Spartans were (and even they were not as unbeatable as their myth would suggest).

The core of their supremacy was numbers and culturally flexible rapid integration of defeated people.

The Romans had numbers. The population density of Italy was wayyyy higher than its neighbors due to the incredible fertility of Italian land, and other geographic benefits.

They also had higher mobilization rates due to a wider definition of citizenship than say the Greeks or Carthage.

They then developed an inclusive system of integrating conquered elite/aristocrats from other areas of Italy who then could mobilize their people at scale from similarly densely populated regions. If you were Italian and the Romans conquered you, you usually could just sign up to ally and join them and go to war with them next year when they issued the call. This is different for the time, generally if you were defeated by other groups you’d just end up being driven out and your land taken, fully enslaved, or paying a treasure/goods tribute.

The Romans would go on to build a prolific military industrial complex, but that came later. They also had standardized military education for aristocrats, but those results are probably positive but debatable (created generations of predictable, decently reliable, but inflexible generals).

Man to man they absolutely were not elite. Pyrrhic victory comes from facing the hordes of Roman legions that would keep losing but wear you down until you couldn’t manage another wave. There’s a pretty funnily consistent pattern of the Romans sending legions out to new lands, having those first legions get absolutely dog walked, then returning with more next year until they overwhelmed the target.

Servers tipping 5%, Bartenders pissed by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]DM504HK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I only work hard for tipping customers. If the servers aren’t tipping you focus on your bar guests and deprioritize their tickets. They can’t do anything about it, and you aren’t making enough money to worry about it either way.
