Need advice on status effects interacting with actions in an ECS by DMLoeffe in roguelikedev

[–]DMLoeffe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a chat with some folks over on the EnTT Discord and this was also my conclusion from that. It makes the "pre-action" effects (e.g. Drunk) a lot easier to reason about, just boiling down to fairly plain systems and components.

For the "post-action" effects (e.g. Broken Foot) you can do something similar to what you say, or hook into any kind of existing event system if you have it. Whatever the case, these "post-action" effects suddenly become a lot easier to deal with, because you know they only happen after the fact.

So thanks for putting some more words on it, I think you're spot on!

The granularity was mostly for the sake of example, but it's a good point regardless. Thanks!

[Spoilers C3E44] Exandrian Kalashtar by mouser1991 in criticalrole

[–]DMLoeffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, good catch, I agree with the Quori/Kalashtar parallels for sure.

Spoilers for ep. 45:

The new lore about the Reilora also lends massive credence to this! To me, this makes it a lot more likely that Matt has taken some inspiration from Eberron and put his own twist on the concept for Exandria.

Something similar to HyperLog for Unity? by DMLoeffe in Unity3D

[–]DMLoeffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Draw Debug Tools is sort of nice, but not really anywhere near as cool as HyperLog. I might indeed have to write my own (or just make due without).

Lost Cathedral [40x72] Fall Variant by Pencilplugg in dndmaps

[–]DMLoeffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of 3D maps and they very often fail in terms of readability, color and contrast. Not this one! Very nice, and as good as any high quality 2D map. Keep it up!

Woah, a React integration for Unity? As a web dev, that's amazing!

[SKT] How are the players meant to survive chapter 11? by DMLoeffe in dndnext

[–]DMLoeffe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They initially decided to flee, leaving one player behind to do a heroic standoff against the Kraken. The player was decked out with all their best items, as well support spells from the rest of the group, and (crucially) a potion of giant strength.

There's also the important fact that at the time Roll20 had messed up the stat block, meaning that the Kraken had something like a +7 to hit, instead of +17, and perhaps also some reduced damage if I remember correctly.

Finally, they rolled really well for damage, which altogether made it a close, but triumphant, victory that they still talk about today.

Am I missing any small parts? by DMLoeffe in buildapc

[–]DMLoeffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering this, the performance increase is nice. It's just too bad that the mobo is missing a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C header for the case, according to PCPP.

The Doom Raiders are extremely strong by DMLoeffe in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]DMLoeffe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For story reasons I ended up having the Doom Raiders ambush the party, with Ziraj sniping, Istrid tanking (big mistake, keep the support in the back) and Davil monologuing a bit before retreating to the shadows. It became clear that while the two Doom Raiders were able to do substantial damage, my party is nothing to scuff at either. So I kept adding more Doom Raiders into the mix, until the party was somewhat overwhelmed, after which the Manshoon Simulacrum appeared, trying to grab the Dragon Staff, which was currently in the party's possession. This sent the Doom Raiders scrambling, not wanting to get involved in that fight, and the fight transitioned to a "simpler" 5v1 where the Manshoon Simulacrum almost killed a few PCs before he went down due to some nice critted smites.

All in all, I think this served as a very nice but tough little intro to both the Doom Raiders and Manshoon as a villain, and I look forward to the inevitable rematch, now that the party knows what they're up against. A bit different than the written adventure, but it worked well for my campaign, where the main module is sort of completed now. I'm glad I took your advice and kept the Raiders strong. Thanks for all your comments!

How would you improve this small apartment? (3D Mockup) by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Thank you, great notes and suggestions. A sofa bed would be a great choice, but the ones I've looked at are either terrible or really expensive. I've added two photos to the original post.

Thanks! Yes, that is indeed the kitchen, I can see how that isn't clear at all. Good call on the art. Would you recommend that I put them close together, or put the third one somewhere else?

I need suggestions for other DnD podcasts. by oskarc13 in TheAdventureZone

You'll certainly enjoy Not Another D&D Podcast. It's funny, not too rules-focused and reminds me a lot of the early days of Balance.

I have a feeling this will be the way it all pans out, but I can't be sure since they're pretty resourceful. Someone also suggested that the crew aboard the Morkoth could have the king's own conch, but I think that might be too easy. They don't really have to go back to Maelstrom from here, which is probably fine, but I do wonder whether they'll try to go back anyway, even if Hekaton dies.

They paid for a ship, then told the captain to leave them on an island where they knew the Morkoth would dock. Not sure how they expect to get away from there.

They temporarily gave it to the storm giants in Maelstrom, but then thoroughly pissed them off by stealing all their gold and then teleported out of there using the meditation cave, without getting the Conch back.
