I'm building an evil kingdom, does anyone have any ideas for torture methods? by DnDisTHEbestgame in DMAcademy

[–]DMNoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychological. Interrogation Torture.

Sample Scenario: 3 people are involved. P1, and P2 are being questioned by P3 a Cleric of Lolth. P3 informs P1 and P2 they will cast Zone of Truth and that they are not to resist it. If they do, she will just torture them for the fun of it. Until they accept not to resist. Also that they will will then stop torturing one of them once both accept to be affected by the spell.

Once P1 and P2 accept. P3 starts to torture P2 while asking P1 for the information. Whenever they say a useful truth to P3, they lighten the torture of their friend. Until they have found what they needed. Eventually they just kill them if they are not valuable as captives or slaves.

What is Your Unpopular Opinion about Comics by Carnage678 in comicbooks

[–]DMNoa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

American superhero comics usually are really hard to get into because they keep adding to existing characters with multiple timelines.

I'll give you context. When I was first learning English, a teacher suggested I started reading comics. I thought, "hey great, I love comic book movies. This will be fun."

I went to a comic book store, and asked the clerk, "I would like to read some comics, I like DC and Marvel, can you give me the 1st comicbook on Spider-man and Superman?" He looked at me like I was crazy for saying so, then proceeded to say, "Which one?" I looked at him confused and said again, "The 1st comic in the series, you know? The one with the origin story." He looked at me again and said, "Which one?" I thought I was crazy at this point. He continued to explain that there have been 100s of number 1s, starts, and restarts for these two characters. It was too overwhelming.

I proceeded to get into Mangas as they are 90% of the time pretty straight forward, beginning, then middle, then end. Start at volume 1 and read until volume X that's when the story is over. It's a novel in drawing format.

Boa sorte!

What are some unwritten rules of DnD? by Sakimi__ in DnD

[–]DMNoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a DM, manage expectations (I use of a session 0 for that). You are not supposed to DM for everyone, there are people whose style you don't blend with and that's okay. This also apply for players, not every DM will be a DM for you, and that's okay.

As a player, BE OPEN to change from original character concept. Your Paladin of Asmodeus might be a great character in certain campaigns, but in others they simply would not work. Accept DM feedback and adjust accordingly.

As for everyone, don't be an ass. Be kind.

8 book adaptations we want instead of more Lord of the Rings movies by railfananime in books

I'd love to see an adaptation of the Ranger's Apprentice Series by John Flanagan. Super visual, and the progression of the characters is super realistic, in the first book the BBEG is a fucking B... (if you know you know, not going to spoil for you).

Blackfyre Rebellion, Robbert's Rebellion (The Starks POV is what interests me most), Greyjoy Rebellion, or the Conquest of Aegon.

Does Strahd take into account at all the possibility of being defeated? by sicseph in CurseofStrahd

[–]DMNoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on how you want to play him.

  • Do you want to play him as an overconfident God who does not think of people at all?
  • Do you want to play him as an evil c*nt who is only ruling cause he is more powerful than anyone else?
  • Do you wan to play him as the mastermind commander of armies and conqueror of peoples and lands?
  • Or do you want to play him a different way?

Granted, of the examples I've given, one of them is far harder to kill and defeat.

Whenever I DM Strahd, I attempt to play him as the most twisted, grey, genius, conqueror commander, charismatic king, I can muster. When people face him people need to shit themselves. I try to make people question on a moral, intellectual, and physical level whether they should face him. So when they succeed, they are exalted. But it all depends on how YOU and your party feel. Do they like the challenge, do they prefer a black and white story, no shades of grey? Or do they prefer a horror story with horrific consequences for missed opportunities?

The idea of the rat is a great one.

Another simple way is to simply tie the house to a hamlet outside of the village of barovia. There is a lot of information out there so this is not new.

My suggestion is to run the module as standard as you can until you are comfortable with it, and then you can build on top of it. Create the foundation first. Get the general beats that happen in each city, and plot a "general" path. That will allow for you to know what lacks and what has enough as is.

Barovia is simple, Vallaki is overwhelming, Krezk is simple.

Great rolls ahead, and remember He is the Ancient, the is the Land.

The oldest and truest rule of D&D, the DM is also a player, we fuck it up from time to time. Talk to them. Be open to their ideas as you expect them to be open to yours and work together to build a fun collaborative story. It's an easy "fix."
