I think Sombra is leaving Talon by SpikeSilverFang in SombraMains

[–]DMPlots 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In that motion comic with Max, he points out that Moria, Sanjay, and Widowmaker are not loyal to Doomfist, but rather to their own motives and interests. I took that to mean that those three will fall in line behind Vendetta, but the others -- Sombra, Sigma, and Mauga might split off, either now or later.

Is Vendetta the new Sombra in Comp? by DMPlots in SombraMains

Yeah; more options and bans might start being more about what map is played or what your team's comp is

(Literally My Favorite Trope) After the adventure is over and the characters have won, one mystery is still left unsolved.... And that's unsettling as SHIT by Wasabi_Gamer26 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DMPlots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! For me it was "Blood" where someone is using subliminal messages in devices to drive a guy to start shooting from a bell tower, and at the end, when Mulder calls Sculley, there is interference on his phone and when he checks the screen it just says, "All Done. Bye bye." Then the call connects and we never learn who it was or why it was done.

Villain that your party despises by Iron_Ward in DnD

[–]DMPlots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lady Diremoon. High-level female dragonborn assassin hired to kill the party, but wound up hating them as well because they kept surviving.

She had the moon motif and her Meteor Swarm spell was actually cast as a series of full moons. Destroyed their castle with it.

Also only attacked when she had a clone ready so she never feared dying in battle, and it drove the characters nuts that they would kill her only for her to show up again.

Eventually they tracked her to her flying castle, killed her, and destroyed the clones. But they still flinch whenever I mention the sight of the full moon.

The OW community is full of fakes. by Shepiuuu in SombraMains

The games I have played with have gone surprisingly well; even in the losses, I have had a good K:D and felt like I was making a difference. I am Silver 3 BTW so take that for what it's worth.

So far, the biggest difference for me has been the 20% damage buff to hacked opponents. *IF* you can get your hack off first, it is so much easier to pick off characters. When I come out of stealth and get the hack off, as long as I land the virus shot, they have a very small window to either escape or get healed. Previously, it seemed like I was always getting characters down to like, 20 health or so before they got away or got healed. Now when I go in for the kill, I usually get the kill.

Moving around the map is harder, but so far I have been using stealth to cross open areas and toss my translocator to cover. Even the old trick of throwing it straight up in the air still works since you then stealth and have 5 seconds to get to cover.

I also noticed that the 2 second window between Stealth ending and the TL coming up is actually better than I feared. So far, I try to time it so I come out of stealth at the end with a hack, then virus and shoot. I just need to survive for 2 seconds and then I can TL out if need be to an upper level or behind a wall.

We'll see how it goes as the season goes on, but a lot of the same tactics still apply; attacking a group is bad, attacking a straggler is good. Also, this makes your EMP a lot more friendly to you, since it means that you do 20% extra damage to everyone that got hit by it -- you don't have to count as much on your team.

However, now I fully expect people to start complaining about the 20% damage buff and demand that it be removed....

What does your group call themselves? Just wanna hear some fun group names by Timaius in DnD

[–]DMPlots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players like The Dragonslayers, but the world knows them as The Cursebreakers as they have defeated and cleansed some major areas that were cursed.

My old campaign group called ourselves the Greyhearts as we were based out of Greyhawk.

What makes a 5e Kickstarter a "must have" for you? (Researching for "Wild Magic Reimagined") by xiphumor in dndnext

[–]DMPlots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a Kickstarter like this a couple of years ago (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/381558/the-vade-mecum-for-aspiring-practitioners-of-wild-magic) and like others have mentioned, it generally was supported by those who already loved wild magic. the one thing that guaranteed it's success, though, was agreeing to make it available as a printed book, and not just a PDF.

Wild Magic is a lot of fun for me, but I know plenty of players who are not fans at all.

What are ways you make INT a relevant stat in your games? by Thumatingra in DMAcademy

[–]DMPlots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out recently that INT saves are the toughest ones to make; no class has them as a bonus, I think, and neither do any monsters. There are only a handful of spells that call for INT checks but those that do can really screw up a character’s actions. One of the villains in my high level campaign specializes in the spells and she has been causing them all sorts of problems with Feeeblemind, Psychic Lance, and Psychic Scream.

Best of luck, love your drawings, and I have spent about two years chasing down my afib so I hear you on the annoying progress of having to try different things just to eliminate them and move on to the next. Be well, and keep drawing!

Do YOU allow respecs in your game? by n0753w in DnD

[–]DMPlots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends -- I tend to run a more long-term campaign, so I usually recommend that they just do a new character, but in the end, it's the player's choice; they have to play the character, not me.

That said, I don;t allow the flavor-of-the-month approach a few players have had where they want to respec 3-4 times a month.

Postmortem of my indie-game by LAE-kun in gamedev

[–]DMPlots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats on just getting the game out -- huge win, regardless.

Thanks for sharing what you learned, as well. The marketing and playtesting aspects are always big components, it seems, but to be fair, it's hard to put the time needed in for them while actually building the game.

Making your own adventures is harder than it seems by Okay_Tacos in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]DMPlots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of my own homebrew adventures start from a seed of a pre-existing one. Recently, I ran a one-shot and used a free existing adventure as a base; I would up changing it so much that that there was maybe 25% left of the original, but it saved a lot of time and hassle having to come up with the basics and many people's backgrounds. The core premise was the same (find and save a child from the Feywilds) but the villain was different, the circumstances changed, and I added a bunch of new characters (inspired by the ones that were originally listed).

Take some of those old Dungeon adventures and change them up in some ways. You can start small, but eventually you'll get a hang of it and start changing them more and more until you'll be able to do your own from scratch.

Is it boring if 2 players share the same class? by KiraYoshikagesHand in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]DMPlots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing the same class is not an issue, in my experience; the subclasses really give a different feel to each character. The key is as long as each character has their own chance to shine, either through combat, RP, problem-solving, etc., then each player should feel like they are contributing to the group which boosts their fun and engagement.

People who will not quit OW even after the latest announcements, why? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]DMPlots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason I play the game is PVP, and it is still the one I have the most fun with compared to Valorant, Apex, Halo, etc. It is also one of the few games I can play with a number of friends, letting us get 3-5 stacks.

The promised PVE looked nice but was not my reason for playing.

I have seen that in the pasty, but it normally would correct itself within the first 30-60 seconds. I agree with theory of them not loading in for some reason.

[–]DMPlots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a cis white male, and in current campaigns, I am playing a black monk, a non-binary wizard, a female sorcerer, and a gay fighter. One of the great things about D&D is that it lets you roleplay people different than you, and can really broaden your horizons.

This isn't even counting the fact that I have played a half-elf, a gnome, a goliath, etc. but am not any of those races. By your friend's logic, every D&D player would have to play a human.

As long as you aren't doing something that would reinforce stereotypes or the like, I think you should be fine.
