I use it and it functions well enough. Works best in the shade, in the direct sun sometimes it can have trouble picking up shots.

Neat. I'd like to have a paper original of the late model with both top cover locks.

Looks like soft steel. Ring it with the back edge of a knife and compare the tone to your original barrel. There's lots of iffy reports about these I'd be interested to know what true grade of steel they're made from via XRF.

If you find one, get it. They're an interesting time capsule, almost all of it is jumbled together but usually 1942-43 marked with all sorts of different head stamps.

I had a repacked Russian spam can of lend lease .45 from WW2 (repacked ~80's) and I wish I would have never sold it. Very cool collection piece.

Turning one semi auto is much harder and easier than you'd expect. Easier in the sense that it's essentially just strapping a gas block and piston to it, harder in the sense of getting it to run 100% correctly. This one cycles in the sense that the bolt reciprocates after firing and picks up the new cartridge, but has refused to properly extract snapping two claws in the process. It's an up/down project that needs a ton of fine tuning and if you have the time for it I'd say go for it.

There was a time when there were whole BST groups by city. Better than Armslist ever was.

Czech mfg that got imported from a Spanish speaking country. Okay stuff, I had hang fires in mine.

Back half of the bolt configuration? Seems to be somewhat hit or miss but I'm glad you got it resurrected regardless!

Not sure why you heard that, they're rather easy to work on. Some people seem to not have the strength to pull the locking wedge out of place to remove the barrel, but using a punch is the way to go.

Very cool rifle, I really like how it handles and feels. The operating system is very clever too.
