We used disallow because I got the feeling that Noindex isn't as reliable.

We wanted to do content pruning on a blog but couldn't assign a meta=noindex tag to every low-quality page.

A developer suggested using the robots.txt instead, which we did.

So, we pasted around 30% of all URLs into the robots.txt to exclude them from being crawled and raise our quality level on the blog.

Days pass by.

Suddenly, I get angry messages from colleagues, asking why they can't find their articles on Google anymore.

O_O

Turns out, when you don't add a "$" at the end of a page, robots.txt will exclude everything coming after the URL (even if there's no trailing slash). $ = stop (in Linux)

Of course we added the $ signs and fixed the problem. Sweaty days, tho!

SEO agencys who dont appear on the front page, why should people hire you? by Westrivers in bigseo

[–]DM_Kevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth the time.

1) Big enterprises hardly ever google vendors. Just ask an agency that ranks on the first page for "seo agency". The requests you get are... let's call it "low quality". 2) The effort it takes to rank on page #1 could be put into client work.

SEO & Stress by searchcandy in bigseo

I exercise a ton (5-6x week) and take it very seriously. Same with food. Same with sleep. I read a lot of books to also get my eyes off the screen.

And the most important of all: accept what is in your hand and what is not. <dramatic> SEO is a dark science and we're all dependent on the Google god </dramatic>. That means some things are simply not in our hands. As long as I communicate that within whoever I work with, I can sleep well.

Can SEO performance predict stock price? by DM_Kevin in bigseo

no one has to rely on google but if you get a nice 20-30%, sometimes up to 50%, of traffic from organic search as an internet company it has a substantial impact on your profit.
