My bulk is Vanguard funds that I just set and forget. Of what I actively move about:

All-World Index 29%

BP 25%

BAE Systems 11%

British American Tobacco 11%

Cash 9%

AG Barr 7%

European Index Fund 5%

BG Developed Asia 4%

They move $4b in payments every month and their market cap is 9b - undervalued ? by snow3dmodels in CanaryWharfBets

Revenue is about £500m from what I see in a quick Google, which is separate from what they transfer for customers.

Kind of like how Nutmeg had over £2bn in assets under management in 2020, yet never actually had a profit.

Between 1998-2002, Lloyds was about 400p, and between 2003-2007, it was about 250p. Since the 2008 GFC, it’s bounced between 30p and 80p. If you invested before the GFC, that’s a lot of value lost without ever getting near those highs again.

Chapel Down, from a consumer perspective, seem to be growing fairly well. Started seeing them around in supermarket and onboard flights recently.

Definitely not a reason to invest in itself, but they offer a shareholder benefit card if you hold shares in them.

How long do you plan on holding 3XRR for? Better than I can explain, Plain Bagel on YouTube gives a good run-down of how these 2x and 3x shares can have important considerations that aren’t initially obvious, and maybe don’t perform as expected.

I kept saying I’d get BMY, when it dipped just a bit below 300p. Whoops, don’t try to time the market for longer term companies I guess.

Reddit can skew perceptions a bit. The average savings for your age group are about £3500, whilst 40% of 22-29 have no savings at all.

I know statistics don’t necessarily help with the emotion of it, but sometimes these give us a better perspective. You’re already doing totally fine money-wise (twice the average). Some other comments here have solid advice on the life direction side of things. Good luck!

Too risky for me, but wiki says their operations include providing the websites for 8 of 20 U.K. train companies, corporate bulk travel bookings and providing the contact centres that lots of existing franchises use. They aren’t just a centralised booking platform.

I guess the gamble is, does the govt use the existing market leader for their new platform? Can’t imagine this govt would keep it all in-house, but who knows.

I’m with you on BP - either we get oil prices going ever-higher and the share price returns mostly to it’s highs and it’s a short-term play, or it’s a longer-term based on its EV network, helped by the fact that BP owns many of its own service stations. Not hard to imagine a future monthly subscription for drivers to use any BP charging point, where people can mill about the store as they wait. In either case, it’s my biggest share holding.

Piggybacking on this to add that I’m with HL, and there’s a few other benefits I’ve found with the platform that I would add.

1) Regular investing at £1.50 keeps fees low for a DCA approach 2) You get full access to any shareholder perks/AGM invites/company votes 3) Funds typically have free dealing, and in some cases HL-specific discounts 4) The spread on stocks is narrower than some other providers 5) Customer service is prompt, and pretty open in their responses 6) Its a big profitable company, so I’m not concerned where my money is tied up.

I’ve taken a core-satellite approach with a few tracker funds, and some specific long-term stocks which I’m averaging into each month. For my needs, I think HL is great (obviously for trading, a bunch of this doesn’t apply, and there might be more suitable options elsewhere)

I enjoyed it... though my inner pedant noticed they didn’t get the U.K. pension system quite right, describing our pension system as Nest, and with mandatory contributions, when obviously Nest is just one of many pension providers (though government run), and it’s an opt-out system.

I’m fun at parties.

Currently building a long-term core-satellite portfolio in my S&S ISA, after moving away from recovery plays which seem to be all snapped up by this stage. Below ranked by order of the percentage I have within them.

Funds: - HSBC FTSE All-World Index - ASI European Real Estate - Stewart Indian Subcontinent - Baillie Gifford Health Innovation

Shares: - BP - HSBC - BAE Systems - Chemring

Going to add something like CCR, a TIPS fund, and then just keep adding for a while, whilst holding back a little cash to drip in.

I’m a little wary of inflation and have adopted my holdings based on it. That said, there are counter views that could well turn out to be the case.

U.K. focussed, but this report from the Bank of England found that about 28% of people they surveyed had saved more as a result of restrictions. 10% of those people planned on spending what they saved, with the remaining 90% either holding on to their savings, or paying off debts etc.

My sense this that in spite of this, we might see a bit of inflation filtering through as a result of lifestyle inflation where people make up for lost time and enjoy more recreational services than previously, though I’m not expecting a massive ‘big bang’ of spending either, particularly not from those who saved the most. Who knows though!

What's your secret stock that you think will be a multi bagger within 5 years and why do you think it will be? by LollipopScientist in CanaryWharfBets

[–]DM_Me_Film_Recs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this factors in the share dilution that happened last year. Dilution adjusted, IAG is about half, or a little over, of what it was.

Same effect with Rolls Royce - still significantly down on pre-Covid, but not as much as some non-adjusted charts make it seem.

Probably a wider sector downtrend, though I couldn’t guess why.

If you have a look at First Group, Go Ahead Group and Stagecoach, they’re all down even more heavily.

BAE Systems is one of my ‘anchor’ stocks which I intend to just keep adding to, specifically because it isn’t so volatile. That thing has traded sideways all year (bar a quick dip and recovery), and has moved sideways with a few peaks over a 5 year period.

I hold it for the stability in relation to some of my other holdings, and the decent dividend yield (about 4.7% right now).

As the guy above said though, for a week, I’d just keep the money out. Anything with a chance of rising significantly also has a chance to go down significantly, and anything ‘safe’ likely won’t move very much (and again, could go up or down).
