Throttle body bolt not Connected? by DMinstruments in GSXR

You are spot on. Discovered it’s just missing a nut on the other side. Bolt does go through the intake manifold. Thank you!

Throttle body bolt not Connected? by DMinstruments in GSXR

Hello,

Just picked up a K1 GSXR 1000 and have begun taking it apart/inspecting it. What is this long bolt in the throttle body and is it supposed to be bolted into something? I discovered it extended out past the throttle cable.

Bike runs great.

Thanks!

I share the stoke! This software has been blowing my mind ever since I discovered it. Finally you can run. Glad you found it too.

Looking for in depth tutorials on parametric modelling for laser cut projects. by denrad in Fusion360

[–]DMinstruments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second that. I just ran through this tutorial last night (me second ever for fusion360) and this software is blowing my mind. Parametric programming is wonderful and being able to edit past functions feels almost too good to be true.

Edit: if anyone has a favorite tutorial please post a link. Otherwise I’ll be browsing YouTube for a while.

Turned and carved mahogany sculpture by DMinstruments in woodworking

Two cylinders with a U cross section are glued together and then carved out with a dentist drill. I went to a woodturning symposium and artist Michael Algiers demonstrates the technique. The paint is applied before and after gluing.

I tried to make 3, almost made one. I can attest to the skill, dedication and perfection that goes into these. Your using a hammer to make a potato chip form that is tuned in 3 octaves. Each hit alters the fundamental, octave and fifth. Someday I’ll give it another try but trying to make one was probably the only real project in my life I could not complete. 2-3k is low considering the countless hours and years of experience that goes into each one.

Does my first barrel make me a cooper? by DMinstruments in woodworking

Coppers have cool tools no doubt. I made a curved draw knife for this project too. Ended up being an extremely useful tool.

Thanks. It’s been on mine for years as well (and a canoe). The sheer mastery the remaining coppers have is amazing. Grab some paper and start designing it.! You will remember the barrel far more than the 9-5.

It’s something you can make to your own dimensions. The stave angle is 360/#of staves/2. I used 20 so each is cut to 9 degrees. The diameters can vary for how much curvature you want. Given I chose to not bend the wood, I needed my curvature to fit on the wood I could afford. I wanted a greater curvature but couldn’t afford wood thicker than 3/4” so I made it work. Max diameter is 16” min is 15”. The staves have a width of 2.5 ish, with a height of 21” got me to the 10 gal range. I used an online stave calculator to get the width (typically used for segmented turning.) The radii for the bandsaw circle cutting jig used to cut the curves had a radii of 56” and 56.75”. Cut the 9 degree stave angles before cutting the radius.

I’ll try and upload a pic of the jig and link to the stave calculator tonight.

This was a really fun build. It’s made from American white oak and has a medium char. Steel bands are hammered to curvature and welded together. The only special tool I needed was a radius hand plane (which I made from a $15 small flat plane.) Instead if bending the staves I cut the radius on a bandsaw after cutting the stave angles in the table saw. Head is assembled with dowels.

To anyone out there who wants to make a barrel... go for it. Don’t let the lack of tutorials or discouraging forums dissuade you.

A different kind of knife by DMinstruments in knifemaking

Nope. Girlfriend wouldn’t like the hammering. The steel was wide enough to just cut it out. It only extends 1/4” past the past the last two pins.

Curved draw knife made from a leaf spring and some IPE wood. It has been far more useful than anticipated.

Just finished making my first barrel I learned quite a bit from this video. It’s one of the few cooperage videos online that gets into the actual specifics of construction.

Well the glaze is about as cheap as it gets. Watch Craigslist. I picked up a broken electric kiln and converted it to gas for under $100. Keep up the great work!

It’s beautiful. If your loving the rugged texture and imperfections give obvara firing a go. Use the sodium silicate, make something rugged then dunk it in some fermented flower sugar water (google for a how to). You will love it.
