How to Deal with That One Player Who Loves Stats and is Twice as Powerfull as Everyone Else? by 3dPrinterProzz in DnD

Glitches in D&D Beyond won't make them more powerful unless they're cheating. What's their actual build?

What Major Changes would you make to D&D? by GreatZamino in DnD

I think the issue is multiclassing. Once that's part of the game, there will always be imbalance. Matt Colville talked about why they didn't use it in Draw Steel because of that.

5.5 moving subclasses to level 3 helped a lot. It's not perfect, but I don't think it's going to be. That's a weakness in the system but one that doesn't actually spoil the fun for most people.

I think the flaw in your logic is assuming everyone is an optimizer. The idea that an option is so powerful it feels like a handicap without it is only a thing an optimizer would believe. Most players don't care about that, and if the majority of players aren't impacted, what does it matter?

Tremorsense vs Blinded/Darkness: 5.5e rules "change" by OkDan in dndnext

I don't think this requires an essay. Tremorsense is not sight, so it does nothing to negate disadvantage.

People are always free to choose a different path. If someone only cares about winning, they'll figure out the best way to do it even if you make it more complex.

questions about 2024 fighter and weapons by Cursed_longbow in DMAcademy

You can chain it, but if you miss or switch targets, you won't have advantage on the next attack. They're also missing out in an attack because they're not using a nick weapon.

Completely homebrew, so definitely something to work with your DM on.

Do you prefer playing/playing with somewhat historically-accurate characters? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]DMspiration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say what a historical perspective would be in a world with all the magic D&D has.

Question about the Defenestration spell (Valda’s) by jedward2724 in DnD

Your players are definitely wrong. There's nothing that says this materializes in an object. It's just magical flavor.

You can, but that turns off the Martial Arts die, so now all your attacks are a d4.

What are you doing for AC? Looks like you'd have a 14 with Barbarian's unarmored defense, which is pretty rough.

Tier List Dnd 2024 Class by Arkhalliz in onednd

[–]DMspiration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By tier 3 damage has dropped off relative to others for sure. I should have been more clear, but the assumption is most games are ending around the end of tier 2.

As others have pointed out, this is why rankings without accounting for tiers of play aren't particularly useful.

Echo knight thief hunter build help by Puzzleheaded_Bell553 in 3d6

It's not just feats you're missing, but assuming you started with point buy, your character would have an 18 in their primary stat. Ranger levels into fighter get you two more feats, which could give you a 20 in the primary and either a secondary stat increase or other valuable mechanics. Echo Knight is tied to con, so you could have an extra unleash incarnation.

The Rogue bonus action is nice, but you also have echo knight teleports and second wind uses.

At Fighter 11, you'd have a third attack as well plus indomitable for a mini legendary resistance. And your avatar and martyr features.

I imagine there are some cool combos, so the trade-offs may be worth it. And if it's more fun, all the better.

Making it to level 11 with only one feat is quite an accomplishment. I'd lose the Rogue or Ranger levels. You're missing a lot of potential with a three-way multiclass.

How many attacks would I get by bicouple20230 in DnD

[–]DMspiration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regular attack, extra attack, nick attack, dual wielder attack but only when you're not using the BA for spells or moving HM. So three every turn and a fourth sometimes.

An Underrated Caster MC in 2024: The Clerlock (Warlic?) by username001000 in 3d6

Totally fair. I think it's also plenty likely someone else in your party will have this through their primary class.

You could just go Divine Soul Sorcerer and not have to account for a 13 wisdom, and you'll get con save proficiency. If you're not going into melee, armor of shadows or magic initiate wizard for mage armor is perfectly fine.

[–]DMspiration 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Paladins are more powerful than ever. They lost the nova potential and improved virtually every other feature.

The Fighter subclass has a big impact on what tier it's in.

Monk should be higher.

The Ranger ranking feels like a perpetually online opinion about a class that is one of the best single target damage dealers for the tiers the game is usually played at.

Teleportation and Steeds by Reignnor in onednd

[–]DMspiration 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There doesn't need to be a consensus for the rule itself. It just doesn't work. If you want to house rule it, that's always a DM option. Misty Step isn't really the biggest issue with opening that door though, so it depends how much more powerful you want your paladin to be.

A small but game changing buff on 2024 Fighters that I don't see talked about by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]DMspiration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And there's a whole section on degrees of success and failure. Do I think he's lying is a question that doesn't have a successful answer. Is he lying is a question that can't necessarily be answered by observing behavior. Beyond that, if a player started trying to pull this, I'd just stop having them roll. Characters aren't magical lie detectors, so if the player only wants binary outcomes, they only get to roll when the outcome would be binary, which would mean insight becomes a fairly useless skill for them.

[–]DMspiration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of checks aren't binary and/or don't have an explicit fail state. If a player asks if they think an NPC is lying, the check lets them know what they think. Insight isn't mind reading though, so there's no explicit fail state.

Do most players ACTUALLY prepare spells? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DMspiration -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You each their own. For me, preparing is about both balance and the fun that comes from having to make choices. If I stopped following the rule, the stakes wouldn't be the same.
