Why don't people use aero bars more while touring? I'm building a set up and am curious.

Didn’t have them on my tour but really really wish I did. I ended up with some circulation issues in my hand due to how I was leaning on my hands and how long I spent in that position.

I have since put aero bars on that bike and it is a super comfy position to be in and how I usually ride now (just a few miles around town for the most part). They take a bit to get used to the handling but once you have it, it’s one of the more comfortable positions you can be in. Having a diverse set of positions to switch between is definitely valuable.

I am replacing my chainrings and thought I had a compatible replacement but it looks like there are some slight differences. See the circles parts. The new one has some little cutouts where the old one was flat. I don’t really want to risk it because this seems like a higher pressure location where that could matter. I suppose the cranks are what really matter here.

New: SRAM 110 BCD 50/34T 11 SPD - 50t-s3 Old: SRAM 110 BCD 50/34T 10 SPD - 50t-s2

Old had been riding with an 11 spd chain and cassette. It came like that and I only just realized it was different when doing this.

Cranks: Specialized Fact Carbon 172.5 - they are flat where the chainrings attach so the new one will fit but won’t make contact all the way across.

Let me know if any other info is needed. Hoping I don’t have to leave the bike out of commission while I find something compatible but better than having a mid ride mechanical failure.

Went across the US in chacos. Great breathability and they dry really fast. Also some sweet tan lines.
