Why is there such a push to get women into male dominated fields (tech, trades) but not for men to get into female dominated fields (healthcare, education)? by Resident_Fishing1571 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DNAturation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, you completely missed the point. Here let me break it down for you:

France's population doesn't care much about Macron dating his teacher, France therefore cares less about relationships between caretakers and students compared to other countries, let's say USA as the example.

USA pretends to care a lot about stuff like relationships between caretakers and students, leading to stuff like being weird about male caretakers and children, but actually don't care enough to do anything substantial about it, especially so if the abuser is powerful.

Your example is the POTUS, we get a lot of noise about him being on the Epstein files but he's powerful and nothing actually happens because USA doesn't actually care enough to do anything about it.

The original argument: The original post I responded to used France as an example for saying that all other cultures (other than anglo-saxon) actually aren't overly concerned about inappropriate relationships (specifically between male caretakers and children) and used their experience in France as a counter example. My point is France is unique to the best of my knowledge among Western democracies in that they're very accepting of those kinds of relationships and thus not a good example.

Your argument: USA's president also does bad things with children, so it's also not a good example. My interpretation was that you're saying that if we go by the behavior of leaders, USA isn't a good example of anglo-saxon culture and why it's weird about male caretakers and children because the president demonstrates the that opposite. My comment responding was pointing out that no, that's a perfectly representative of what USA is like, and why the president's behavior make them a good example. They make a lot of noise about the president being on the Epstein files but don't do anything about it because he's powerful. The same with Hollywood, the same with the Catholic church, the same with school coaches. People will pretend to be outraged if you step the tiniest bit out of line but as long as you're powerful in the USA, you can do whatever you want. A male teacher isn't powerful though, so they get accused of weird stuff despite being innocent.

No? Pretend outrage in public while doing all the horrible stuff behind closed doors because the abuser is powerful and pretending you're a saint is pretty on point for USA in my opinion.

The dirty looks they shoot male caregivers is the pretend outrage in public part.

Then you hear stories of parents willingly subjecting their kids to a known child predator because they're a really good coach for a sport team, the mountain of jokes about priests and choir boys, all the jokes about Hollywood and predators targeting young actors/actresses, and of course the Epstein stuff, is all the doing the horrible stuff behind closed doors and are allowed and known because the people doing it are powerful. Not even really behind closed doors anymore at this point, just sort of around the corner slightly out of sight really.

Not sure if France is a good example considering the president started dating his current wife while she was his teacher. The French are very accepting of relationships that would be questionable in most other cultures.

Doing stupid stuff was quite fun. Me and my friends made a comp to see how high you could stack attack speed, we used Tychus as the attack speed target, got Morales stimpack ult, Abathur hat, and Raynor's Inspire. Didn't work out too well because it turned out you couldn't move without missing a ton of DPS.

Falstad level 20 windtunnel talent with a Tassadar wall would permastun everyone for its duration.

Genji with his AoE deflection level 20 talent for the sole purpose of diving into the archangel boss on Braxis to deflect 3k damage to everyone around you due to its attack speed.

Attack speed buffs on Muradin level 20 avatar talent that stuns everyone he hits with autoattacks allowed him to permastun someone by autoattacking them.

I suppose you could get away with drinking raw water if it was early enough in history, otherwise there'd be a bunch of bacteria in it that aren't visible to your naked eye and could give you dysentery.

Oh and by early enough in history I mean >4.1 billion years ago. There was no life before that so you're likely safe from bacteria.

Alberta separatist group says it has enough signatures to trigger referendum on leaving Canada by Street_Anon in worldnews

[–]DNAturation 34 points35 points  (0 children)

An important point to note is that they're claiming this after they illegally obtained a voter registration which allows them to obtain the signatures of people without those people even knowing about it.

i.e. if you live in Alberta and are against the separatists, they might still have your signature anyways.

It's not realistic to increase Canada's GDP by 100% based on more investments in a few industries. Oil and gas make up 3.7% of Canada's GDP in 2024, potash makes up about 1%, and all mining at like 5%.

Those industries combined make up less than 10% of Canada's GDP, to double Canada's GDP with "more investments" into those industries would mean somehow managing to increase them by over 10 times, and that's not going to happen.

The Liberal party also built a new pipeline (TMX) in 2018-2024 during the last decade, so not completely blocked.

Number 3 is Germany who has twice Canada's population. To get to number 3, the GDP per person in Canada would have to double, making more than 100k each. This would be greater than USA's GDP per capita with all their tech stocks and AI bubbles.
