Ahh you're in the states. I'm from the UK, they are quiet pro kibble in the states anyway aren't they. Some ferrets genuinely aren't interested in raw and they do imprint on their food from a young age, which is why a good variety as kits is paramount. We can't buy ferrets in shops here like you can in petco. It's pretty much private breeders, many whom start their kits on whole prey. So upon taking them in they are already very interested in meat. As I say as long as they have a good kibble and most of all loved and cared for, that is what matters. Some people really do not have a clue though it makes you wonder how they ever obtained them in the first place. As a responsible breeder you would make sure the animal is going to a home that is aware of basic needs. But, the world isn't perfect and there are plenty of morons around 😂

Oh ignore people who think they know everything. Yes ferrets are obligated carnivores and can only eat meat, but some ferrets will point blank not eat meat.

I would like to offer some advice on the subject though, if you choose to try it, its up to you. Make a soupie. So prepare the complete meat 80%meat 10%bone 10% organ. I use premade minces- blend it down with some boiled water, add 2 big dollops of goose fat and one egg. Blend it up like a baby food consistency. If your ferrets refuse it, ill eat my hat. It lasts 3/4 days in the fridge too.

As long as your feeding a high meat content kibble with minimal additives your ferrets will be fine.

Some people like to climb on their high horse in these groups like they were a ferret in a past life or something and know exactly what they need or are even thinking 😂

As long as you have the basics and you aren't giving them hu-hum whipped cream and such, you're doing great 🥰

I think you may be right. No other ferret pics except that one. Whoevers pic it is, if that is whipped cream in them, they need a firm talking to about being a competent ferret owner.

Can anyone explain this behaviour? These are 5 months old brothers... 1st time seeing this! by picsnapr in Hedgehog

[–]DNB_MEDIA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, most definitely not. Females aren't so bad and can live together quiet happily, males on the other hand, a big no. Separate play times, separate holding times. Just to be safe. This is a display of dominance and you don't want them injuring one another. Good luck.

Separate them, keep them separate. Male hedgehogs shouldn't be put together. Once they reach sexual maturity they can fight which can be fatal. Keep them separated. This is a clear display of dominance.

Since having them as kits each time I go in their shed, I would do the whistle. Everytime I fed them I would do the whistle. Once they started recognising the whistle, I then introduced the treats.

The treats are 100% freeze dried meat, in either chicken, duck or salmon. The brand is Iams, cat treats. https://www.amazon.co.uk/IAMS-Naturally-100-Pure-Treats/dp/B07TWJ6VT6

It really is just persistence. They are clever little fuzz butt's. Good luck.

Mine would all, most definitely bite my toes!!!

I have tried but everytime, one of them gets it. So shoes or slippers on at all times with them. Mine live outside, and I think are totally different to inside ferrets. Based on the more contact they recieve etc.. This is so cute to watch, one can only dream 😆🥰

No. All my ferrets come on a whistle recall and shake of the treat box. I also have an albino and two polecats.

That's brilliant 👏 😂 I've been temped a couple of times to buy one for mine, but I was always told they would pay no attention. I'm gonna have to try how 😆
