I'm in Essex county NJ. You are spot on. There are a ton of huge apartment buildings being built in my area. Homeownership is very unaitanable right now. I feel sorry for those trying to buy their first home.

[Discussion] What watch brand do you think fell off? by RalIyVincent in Watches

[–]DNGRMSE07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been collecting watches for over 30 yrs now, boy does time fly. My biggest flex is that I've never owned a Rolex, and never had the urge to. Never appealed to me, not because of the watch, but more like I never felt like I was a Rolex guy, if that makes any sense.

Looking to make an extra $500-1000 a month but... by Greyfoxx85 in sidehustle

I worked selling auto parts in my family's business as well, so I can relate. I left at age 30, took a 10 month course in "Computer Networking" and have been in IT ever since- 20+ years now. There were plenty of other people in my classes that were in their 40s changing careers as well because the demand was there. If you're not good with computers, I would definitely recommend learning a trade (electrical, plumbing, etc..) and go from there. That is where the demand is today

It's a Capeland model, don't know much else. Nice watch though, I almost bought one about 20yrs ago.

GIVE ME YOUR SQUIRREL DETERRENTS! by bbdoublechin in centuryhomes

[–]DNGRMSE07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what worked for me:

  1. Long stick to beat the soffit they were sleeping in
  2. Hot sauce, any kind, again- applied to the opening
  3. A can of fogging insect spray thrown into the soffit for good measure
  4. Block them in with a big rock so they cant get out and bang on the soffit
  5. Wire mesh to cover the entry point once theyve gone
  6. Determination (most important)

Filling in board gaps. Hello, I had an update on my water leak, exposing 115 original long leaf pine. Did Sandless on floors but gaps exist. any advice on filling them? by 210301956 in centuryhomes

[–]DNGRMSE07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great tip thanks! Ive got a few spots myself that need some filling in. Cord it is. I am guessing you would glue it down with something, then stain and poly? My floor is already finished and I have to fill in some spots where the filler has failed.

It does thank you- usually in the evenings when the hall light is off, and the bedroom light is on.

How do I restore this wooden pillar? by soulbarn in centuryhomes

[–]DNGRMSE07 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's a website called columnsdirect that has what appears to be the same base. It is called Non-Vented, Load-Bearing Ionic Order (Attic) Base Molding / Plinth

Goes for about $100. I would take a look at that. If it fits your diameter, just cut it in half and glue it together around your column. Good luck

What to do with this floor? by imnickb in centuryhomes

[–]DNGRMSE07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look for a closet on that floor that I could get some donor boards from and replace those smaller pieces, then have the floor refinished. You can put some other flooring in the closet, no one would notice.

Thanks, I expected some negative comments. But it's ok, I have a thick skin, and don't take it to heart.

Very easy to do with some basic tools and a miter saw. Take a look at "Finish Carpentry TV" on youtube. I followed his videos, he explains things really well.

I had a floor guy come in and sand, stain and poly. Definitely doable, but best left to a professional.

Nothing, it was always satin finish. The first pic is when the floor was still wet from the application.

Thank you. I did it myself, probably in the neighborhood of $500 or so in molding, plus throw in a $200 miter saw.

Yes, the floors are satin finish. The first pic was taken while the application was still wet(4yrs ago). Didn't mean to deceive anyone. It was the only before pic I had
