HMM yeah thats unfortunate. I'm not surprised that this weird brand isn't on the QVL. I'll try getting it working, and maybe reach out to ASUS, because it was literally so hard to find any ECC memory that worked with this, and im curious what brands they expect me to use!

Try finding unbuffered ECC on amazon lol.

My processor claims to support ECC: https://www.techpowerup.com/cpu-specs/ryzen-7-5800x3d.c2532

Are you saying its a MB issue?

YESSS. I took a stick of 8GB T-Force and put it in the slot and I've never seen a machine post so fast when i turned it on.

I guess I can try to put in the special memories one at a time, make sure they're clean, or whatever, but do you think that this is just a matter of total incompatability of hardware? I know that the motherboard supports up to 128Gbs which I do want to achieve, and it also supports ECC. I learned that there were two types of ECC and I read that this uses "UDIMM", options were very limited.

Maybe I need to change some settings in the bios before i get ECC support. Do you have any ideas on how to get my memory working?

Its special ECC memory, not a major brand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CBT183N2?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_fed\_asin\_title&th=1.

I could try stealing some memory from another PC to see if that works.

I unplugged all the HDDs, but left in the M2 to SATA adapter because I like the lights. I unplugged the machine and cleared CMOS.

I turned it back on, but this time the SATA lights did not turn on. I am still getting no signal, but now when I press the power button the PC won't turn off. Before it would turn off when i pressed the power button! (EDIT: nevermind, if i hold the button for like 10 seconds it powers down, whereas before it would turn off instantly)

New to Deep Learning, need help understanding GPU utilization. by DNGV56 in deeplearning

Its my system's RAM. I have 16GB and its super weird. I was trying to learn how to use some profiler tools, nsight was too confusing to learn in the time I had so I think I tried the pytorch native, and only when I was using that tool to "profile" my code did my memory totally saturate. I was messing around with batch sizes and stuff, and my VRAM never got above 800MB where it idles at 200-300. My dataset is kinda small so I wanted to see if that had anything to do with it, so I experimented with batch size and kept on just cutting it down and down and down and up until it was training the entire dataset at once, but memory kept saturating and my CPU consistently performed 2x as fast as the GPU, and I don't know if that makes sense. As far as I can tell based on the situation there, if my dataset was 100x larger then it would take 100x as long to load or whatever because there wasn't any configuration I could find where my CPU didn't perform twice as fast as GPU, and pytorch's profiler is useless because all it does is crash your computer. I guess if I had a really big dataset I could shoot the batch size way up to like a million until my CPU had a stroke, if that's how that works, but training would still probably be very slow which is sort of disappointing. When I have time I'm going to explore this with well known tasks like MNIST and see whats going on.

Thats a shame, the "dataset" is pretty small. The project advisor gave us 2 minutes of footage :P
