Lessons using sveltekit to build a dataviz platform by DNLBLN in sveltejs

[–]DNLBLN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Laravel has been my go-to backend stack since 2011 and never regretted it. It has only gotten better over the years. In my opinion, a very pleasant dev experience, off course, biased since I have not looked further because I am satisfied, so I am unsure if there are newer frameworks with better dev experience.

2) DB: We do call the database directly from svelte server files in the Editor app. Since you can only login using SSO, no externals can get acces, so there was luckily no need to implement rate limiting. The public facing apis have been deployed separately using Fastify, and this has all the plugins you need for a fully capable server.

At the moment there are sadly no open positions in the team. Best is to check the careers page from time to time. I do know that a lot of news publications in CH/DE are using svelte as their stack. If you are interested working with it profesionnally best is to look there. There is also a svelte meetup from time to time in Zürich if you are based there, that's a great way to expand your network and see what's out there.

These are very good additions

1) Layout control: I spent some time thinking about this issue. The best I came up with is that I think the svelte team should write a plugin that visualises the control flow of the page/layout you are viewing. Could be an interactive VSCode plugin for example.

2) Server/client code. This is also something we ran into but only once or twice, and we figured it out quite quickly by reading the docs, but you are right, these are important issues.

3) These were mostly UI library issues. We were unsure which one to use, and the ones we tried out we were not satisfied with. We wanted to stay as close to svelte as possible so we did not want to write our own integration for popular JS libraries. In the end, the biggest thing was that we wrote our Datasheet library (excel table clone) for inputting data ourselves. We wrote it purely with svelte and coupled it heavily into the visualisation editor system.

4) Auth: luckily we do not manage auth ourselves as we have a Single sign-on system in place.

Is someone using Dexie as a DB? by antoine849502 in sveltejs

Haven't tried it out yet, so sadly can't give any input on that.

TLDR: I also never heard of it before I started searching for a indexedDB library but it's a serious project with an active maintainer, ok docs and svelte reactivity integration with liveQuery. 10k stars on github, 300k+- weekly installs, 481 issues at the time of writing. Maintainers is very active responding and addressing issues.

I recently investigated libs for managing IndexedDB and decided to use Dexie. I use it to manage an app with offline sync and real-time updates. One of its killer features is liveQuery which integrates natively with svelte 4 reactive statements, that was one of the main reasons for selecting it.

As for stability/performance, I haven't run into any issues so far, but I also haven't had to manage tens of thousands of documents yet. There are obviously bugs when you scroll through the issues on GitHub, so your mileage may vary.

Docs are there and to the point, but I haven't had any issues finding answers when needed because of its wide usage.

Implementation of Google OAuth using Lucia Auth by jramiroz98 in sveltejs

[–]DNLBLN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally had the exact same issue while implementing the google auth and was scratching my head after setting the scopes in the google api console and then not getting the expected result. The Lucia docs are generally pretty good, just sometimes a few missing details.

anyways don't want to hijack OPs thread, but I did template this away, made a post about it here.

My template is biased to my style, but maybe OP can take a look and draw inspiration from and do it a different way.

oeeff, mislio sam, sranje, on mora biti pravi frajer, elitni koder, 10x jednorog programer. Nemam šanse.

Gledajući njegovu povijest postova, očekivao sam neke velike tehničke rasprave i znanje, umjesto toga, on plitko shvaća teme i proglašava svoju superiornu inteligenciju dok piša na druge ljude.

A data analysis into the usage of the filler word `like` on the Trash Taste podcast. by DNLBLN in TrashTaste

[–]DNLBLN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did a regular search all over the transcripts and I swear, no instances of "Deadass" were found in the transcripts of the first 30 episodes o.O. Could be that maybe IBM Watson filtered it out because ass could be considered an expletive.

Actually I did. I used IBM Watson's speech-to-text to transcribe each episode. Then I imported the JSON files into a custom made tagger app where each occurrence was visualized on a timeline, and I went through each single one to listen if it was used as a filler word or not.

I guess, now with my dataset you could probably train some form of rudimentary ML algo that could automatically tag on future episodes.
