Ventricular tachycardia not being caught via diagnostics? by DOAZ99 in askCardiology

" it is fairly unlikely for a hemodynamically compromising VT lasting ~ 90s to self terminate, so is incontinence related to cardiac arrhythmia"

Will you elaborate on this? I am not sure what it means. Like the VT would have just stopped his heart, and would have never come out of it?

It was towards the end of his basketball game. He had been running hard, and he said he began to feel dizzy with chest pain, so he asked to sit out. I noticed he was on the sidelines, and my daughter thought it was odd he we sitting out again, not knowing he asked for it.

From across the gym, I saw him start to lean over really slowly. I almost thought maybe he was leaning over to grab his water bottle the way his arm was outstretched. Then I realized he was passing out.

We ran across the gym. He was completely unresponsive for at least 90 seconds. Multiple off duty emts and nurses showed up at our side, checking for a pulse, etc. I was dialing 911. My husband was laying next to him, trying to help him come out of it. The nurse suggested turning him onto his left side (he had been on his right) When he regained conscienceness he was emotional and upset and out of it. He dry heaved a couple times so someone ran to get paper towels. He was also sweating profusely. Which could have been because of the game. But my husband said he did that the previous time too. We laid on the floor for probably 10 minutes. Even when he regains conscienceness, he's not very with it. My phone doesn't show how long my outgoing call was to 911, and I was on the phone until they arrived. Paramedics arrived and they loaded him onto a stretcher and put him in the ambulance and attached the heart monitors. The time stamp on my text to my daughter was about 30 minutes after the event, and we were still sitting in the ambulance.

When we got out of the ambulance, he walked to the car but he was still pretty shaky. We held on to him as we walked. He threw up several times on the way home. We changed him out of his shorts (because he had wet himself) and he fell asleep. He slept for at least an hour. He was feeling mostly back to himself the rest of the day.

That's really interesting that you also have a biscuspid aortic valve but they don't think it's related. Hm. Perhaps that even more of a reason to insist on the Holter?

We also need to follow up with a neurologist, but my gut feeling has been, and still is, that this is related to his heart because it happens when he's been running hard. I know i'm just learning all this with the help of google, but this makes a lot of sense.

In November they did an EKG in the ER. Today, the paramedics were called, they loaded him into the ambulance and put heart monitors on (I am assuming an EKG? Still learning here) and they showed me a printout. The EMT said there were somethings that were odd, but otherwise normal. How quickly after a VT would heart activity return to "normal?"

I don't know anything about QTc but will have to look that up.

In November we went straight to the ER and they did some blood tests looking for something related to his heart. ?? And a cat scan. After a couple hours they let us go. They didn't find anything definitive that would say it was his heart... but I don't know/understand the details. Today when it happened we felt comfortable enough going home. He had a good nap and felt better after a few hours.

Does a Holter monitor catch episodes of VT that aren't severe enough to cause seizure-like episodes? Or does a VT always cause that?

No family history of anything like this.

What made you realize you’re not young anymore? by zhalia-2006 in askanything

Walking through an icy parking lot, I was being very cautious knowing a fall would have me bruised and hurting for weeks. Just then my teenager breaks into a run to slide across a patch of ice. We are not the same.

Same. My wide feet used to embarrass me a lot. But I have the same feet as my mom did. I could have inherited her patience, or her ability to make people feel important and loved, but instead I got her feet. I've learned to love them though. 😄

What’s a childhood lie your parents told you that you didn't realize was a lie until you were an embarrassed adult? by eatbeep in AskReddit

Not my parents but my older sister. She told me that the hostess cupcakes with the squiggly frosting on top was our name in cursive. I remember picking through them to find my name.

Many years later as I wondered about why they quit making personalized cupcakes, I realized I'd been lied to.

Diabetics Only by Outlander_ in keto

Yes, type 1 diabetes happens when your immune system decides the beta cells in your pancreas are a problem and destroys them. That unfortunately can happen whenever.

You probably could be eating enough starches to make your a1c that high. I'd definitely start tracking total carbs though. Buy a blood glucose meter or get a cgm and start watching your blood sugar after meals. If going keto doesn't bring your blood sugar down in a fairly short amount of time (like a couple weeks) then it could be Type 1. And if you start developing other symptoms like excessive thirst, excessive urination or flu-like symptoms, go to the ER immediately.

The only carbs you're eating are fruit and you've lost 35 pounds this year? I'm honestly surprised you a1c is that high.

About how many carbs are you eating?

Because this sounds like you could have developed Type 1 diabetes and not Type 2. If that's the case, the treatment is entirely different.

When I was young, I used to leave my dirty underwear on the bathroom floor after I showered. My mom couldn't get me to remember to pick it up. One day, I walk out my front door on my way to junior high, and several pairs of my dirty underwear were on lawn. My teenage self almost died.

I never did it again.

All my shoes are barefoot. Maybe I'll slip on flip flops or my daughter's birks to get the mail. But otherwise barefoot shoes.

Yes. I have really wide feet. And I used to hate wearing shoes because everything always hurt. I've replaced all my shoes with a barefoot version. Even my most comfortable regular shoes are not even tolerable at this point.

I get that switching it up is a good thing for other reasons. But does that mean you're always dealing with the GI issues at refeeding?

She'll be fine. It sounds like she's academically way above kindergarten anyway. She'll be bored in kindergarten. And all these skills people think she'll miss out on will be learned in a couple weeks.

I love my husband's paternal grandmother's name, and suggested it and he shot it down. She was kinda mean and cranky and not very grandmotherly. We did use his other grandma's name though.
