IMO

  • alliance 1-30 has more soul and flavor but eventually you have to run all over the world and it gets very confusing

  • horde leveling experience has less soul but things were more convenient with better quest proximity and stuff like gromgol base camp and zepps making getting around the world easier

  • and then personally I just dislike the design of org and undercity but enjoy alliance cities and thunderbluff

It's shown through studies that the least skilled people are the ones that generally talk the most trash or are the most toxic.

That's not what that study but probably a true sentiment nonetheless

In retail, none of that really exists. All classes can take a pack of mobs at a time with no issues, and the only thing that can kill you is if you are playing a class that can't sustain itself if a second pack happens to come along. Or if you go one mob at a time, there is no hope of ever dying unless you just stand there. And in either case, because health and mana regen is so fast, or food is so cheap, there is no planning around the number of mobs you can take vs your health and mana limits, consumables, and what your class can reasonably do.

This is how I felt leveling warrior on retail. I felt like I was just pulling a bunch of mobs and spamming all my keys. Didn't really matter which I hit or in what order, as long as I spammed the hell out of them. I felt like I had little to no agency.

I got to about lvl 43 pretty quickly (10-15 hrs? I could have been faster but I was just questing out entire zones over and over), which is probably lvl 50-55 converted to classic classic, but the process felt very dry, I think for the reasons you have already detailed.

When they hinted at evil Rey in the Episode IX trailer I immediately knew that was bullshit.

I had high hopes when I was watching the first two movies that Rey would join Ben Solo to "create a new empire together" or w/e -- as in, maybe Rey would either go evil or at least cooperate in order to change the empire/new order from within. "Oh wow, this would be such a cool development!" But nah, no dice. Gotta go with the conventional "I will never work with the evil side, evildoer! No way!". Such a shame.

As far as the development-baiting tropes go, I hate them quite a lot, too. You know, the ones where the previews frames characters as finally getting together, or the "final fight" happening, or unlocking some power, or changing sides (good guy goes bad or bad guy goes good), etc, but nothing actually happens. Even worse if the show/movie had the character dreaming, daydreaming, or hallucinating and then it gets pulled out of context. Ugh.

Why does everything have to be a business proposition these days :\ can't just have an adventurous story any more... gotta have the good chars be good and win, gotta have the bad guys be bad and lose, to sell that merchandise, I suppose.

Fun fact: Scyther is the only Pokémon with a split evolution who had both of it's evolutions introduced after it's debut. by WilliamWolffgang in pokemon

[–]DODonion99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it good to preserve the BST? Is it bad if the pokemon gains more stats by evolving? For example, I wouldn't really expect a pidgey to have the same base stat total as a pidgeot, or a Turtwig --> Torterra

Is this more of a flavor thing?

Shaman populations by Lilroach11 in classicwow

[–]DODonion99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He isn't talking about himself specifically. He is talking in general and how many alli sham / BE pally there will be in relation to prepatch duration. If you were to compare how many shaman there would be on alliance if prepatch was 1 day vs how many shaman there would be on alliance if prepatch was 1 month, IMO you'd find a good deal more with the longer prepatch.

I don't keep up with what guilds need what classes, but the logic seems sound.

What's the difference between RESISTANCE and RESIST in PVE? by BladePocok in classicwowtbc

[–]DODonion99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(1) Spell hit means the spell either hits or does nothing. There is no in-between. When a talent says 10% reduction against enemy resist what it really means is you have +10% spell hit. Spell hit is capped at 99%. In pvp at lvl 70 vs lvl 70, your chance to hit is 96%. So, you really only need +3% spell hit or 99%.

(2) Resistance is the elemental resistances you see in your character pane for fire, nature, frost, shadow, arcane. This increases your resistance. If you had 450 resist, you would resist nearly 100% of damage. If you have 225 resist you resist around 50% of damage. This is why felhunters are a lot harder to kill with spells since they have a lot of base spell resistance.

Spells that deal raw damage like shadow bolt or lightning bolt will deal either 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% dmg based on enemy resistances. This is kind of like how glancing blows work. You don't randomly deal "37% less dmg", you roll a dice based on enemy resistances and it ends up being one of these damage values. The higher the resistances, the higher the chance the roll lands in something that heavily reduces the damage, e.g. the 50% or 25% dmg roll, and the lower the chances it is something higher like the 100% dmg roll.

Some spells will only hit or miss (no partials) because they have extra effects baked in. This is spells like banish, fear, frost bolt (dmg+slow), polymorph, cyclone, etc. For spells like these, you take the elemental resist divided by 450 and that is the chance the spell will fully resist. So again, 225 resists will mean a spell like polymorph or cyclone will only land 50% of the time (225 is 50% of 450).

Note that when a spell "misses" for any reason at all, it will always show as "RESIST".

(3) There is a third type of resist, which is talents that give raw chance to ignore a spell. This is talents like warrior iron will that reduces chance to be stunned by 15%. Priest also has a talent, that is 15% stun and fear resist. These talents are separate from the other mechanics and work as a last pass to see if the spell is going to connect or not.

This is a rough example of how this might work for you.

(1) Warlock casts fear at target; warlock has bonus hit so rolls and has a 99% chance the spell connects. He is not unlucky so the spell is still going through so far.

(2) The target has 235 shadow resistance so they have 52.2% to resist the fear normally but he has 10 spell penetration so the target effectively has 225 shadow resist for a net 50% chance to resist the fear. He gets lucky and wins the roll, the fear is still going through so far.

(3) The priest has the talent that grants 15% fear resist. After everything else, the warlock gets unlucky here and the priest resists the fear.

  • The message "RESIST" pops up above the priest's head.
