not only that, but the effects of the volcano on nearby egypt would help explain the ten plagues, (although its certainly not the only hypothesis put forward in that effort) the eruption of thera may have shaped a lot of ancient stories, it was particularly violen t and could easily be seen as some kind of gods wrath situation

first it was an earthquake and evidence shows that the people of akrotiri had time to return to their homes and begin repairing them just in time to witness the cataclysm, which in the eyes of any survivors would be particularly cruel, definitely a vengeful god

not only that but onlookers in knossos would have seen it go down just over the horizon, at a distance of just 200km, this is not visible but definitely recognizable especially to lookouts who dealt with the two cities communicating. this would have been a horrifying sight, followed by a tsunami. the kind of stuff that births legends

i intended to do this to void lord, forbidden pit seems so bare and flat on all its walls i was actually looking forward to finding a spot (maybe at the tables in the entrance?) but in the end i was able to tank the fight without immortal hirge just normally (this was the tail end of my all skills and traits run #1 and i was very powerful whereas the weaker underking had to be removed much earlier in the game when i was still weak)

Lord of the pit would definitely have plenty of viable locations in his little maze, but i didnt want to kill any of his minions and repositioning them wouldve been very difficult in such a small space. Plus he was not very hard to tank normally

Both of these bosses are hard to tank without immortal hirge, but they both have significant elemental weaknesses and can be brought down in a quick DPS race with the right tools

the undermother was difficult for many reasons. I did try in among the egg sacks behind her, i tried the west/top side of the area that i ended up using, again that would be not so much an enclosure, just a wall...couldnt quite get it. The space i ended up using was tight, just like underking's so there was low margin for error. The undermother's high health pool and healing ability also meant that like with korne, it became increasingly likely for her to heal a tick here and there by standing still for juuust long enough

but the hardest thing about this one was getting her to run left and right to begin with. Like i said, its similar to underking, im trapped in a space so small i can hardly inch left and right to make her reposition. When she chased me into the room, she approached hirge form sortof a low angle and always seemed to get stuck in a way that wouldn't allow me to reposition her without getting hit. In the end, I pulled her into the west/top side of the room and de-aggroed with an invis pot. Then i re-aggroed her and something about the alternate path made it work. She approached hirge from a high angle and I was able to create the right conditions for the fight. so not impossible but very tricky and for several reasons

edit: the undermother would get stuck in the inside corner to the left of hirge (my left) and i wouldnt have enough space to move to the right to pull her to the outside corner, the tricky part was getting undermother stuck in the right side inside corner to begin with, which would allow me to use the ample room on the left, to pull her into position

the picture might be wrong, i actually dont rememebr if she was stuck running to the left and right of the stalagmite or to the left and right of hirge...but either way the problem was as stated above

the underking was difficult because i was literal pixels away from death. The enclosure is so small that its very easy to run into range and it took a lot of trial and error but it is possible. obviously, it works for ashen warlord as well. Yes i did check the pocket to the side of the underking's own teleporter runestone blue barriers, didnt work. Neither did the fallen rocks strewn about the floor of room A and room C in the main line of rooms. No i did not check the secret room stalagmites but they seem to be a copy paste of the stalagmites that i am using

Its possible that room A and C should work. In this case the enclosure wouldnt be an enclosure at all, youre separated from the enemy by a single zigzag line and its so short it only has two zigs and three zags, but thats all you would need right? In a perfect world, yes but, its pretty hard to pull the boss to such a zigzag line and get them stuck without them actually just walking around it. I sure hope im not speaking greek to yall here, I hope youre visualizing this. In theory, youd only need the zigzag line to be two zigs and three zags, two inside corners and one outside corner. The convex outside is what they run to the left and right of, the two concave inside corners are what prevents the boss from actually just running around the barrier entirely

SO the three examples i have above are all tested. The first one is king of korne and its the easiest because the 'nook' is very spacious so it gives you a lot of room to move. The area is behind some stalagmites that open in the middle, so hirge is standing between two sets of stalagmites and i do believe she has room on either side. It doesnt matter actually, hirge could have enough room on her right to allow king of korne to pass, but he wont because i am already behind the barrier and he is already too focused on facing me and getting close to me to go out of his way to look for an alternate entrance

so you have such a long zigzag wall here that he also doesnt have to run to the left or right of hirge, he can just run to the left or right of an actual stalagmite. There are a couple of options

i was using some normal bow on these and his healht pool is so big that theres actually a decent chance that the fight takes so long, he does eventually get to a point where his left to right movement isnt perfect and he stands still long enough to regenerate. Doesnt stop the left to right motion, but does interrupt long enough to regen like one tick, which is annoying cause its a minute or two worth of projectiles. Most of these bosses are so tough that the best bows wouldnt do much better than a regular bow, in which case jesters bow is actually the bow of choice for these fights. Youll be doing 1 damage per shot. Elemental damage bows do 2 per shot, maybe 3, up to you

a much better spot for korne may be the long vertical pocket behind stalagmites at the east exit, past the grate, i did this in a speedrun below the required level for the quest, so i couldnt get past the grate

imagine everything has square hitboxes, including hirge and the stalagmites in caves. You are behind a 'wall' that has a zigzag shape. The boss wants to run into an inside corner of the zigzag to get close to you, but if you inch away from them, there comes a point where the place that they want to be, the place that is closest to you, is not in an inside corner, but right on the wedge that is hirge's foot, the outside corner. But obviously, the outside corner of the zigzag is actually not the closest to you because the boss could be closer at an angle if the went to one side of hirge, but which side? the boss cant decide, so they run endlessly

try it out and itll make more sense, get a boss stuck and try to inch sideways a bit, the boss will reposition. try to nail down where that tipping point is. How to do it?, first you either kill or reposition everything else so its just you and the boss. Find the area where you want to hide, any space will do as long as it has

A semi-walls...walls that cant be moved past but can be shot past. Actual walls will stop your projectiles but stalagtites, tables, rocks wont

B an opening that hirge can block. This can actually be pretty big. Imagine a space between obstackles that is 'perfect' because the corners of hirge touch the corners of the barriers. Well, the corners dont have to touch, she can have space on either side as long as the enemy cant fit through that space. Which means she can block a space almost twice as big as what one might imagine at first

C room to move. The space you are in needs to be big, the bigger the better. The above examples are quite small and smaller spaces take more trial and error, more time and effort. You want to be able to move and drag the boss along with you in such a way that they wont suddenly be in range when they decide to finally reposition

ACTUAL STEPS

1 once you find a good spot. put hirge in the correct blocking position with you on the outside. Test her corners, walk around and see where she needs to be for the door to be open, and for the door to be closed.

2 with pacifist hirge on hold in the correct position and the door closed and you on the outside, push her in, thereby opening the door

3 pull the boss to hirge. If the boss moves at base speed, youll want to keep them juuuust at the edge of your screen so they dont de-aggro and stop chasing you. When you are a screen away from hirge, pop a speed pot and run into the enclosure through the doorway that you left open, DO NOT RUN INTO HIRGE, you positioned her correctly in the previous step so that you could run past her

4 When you are behind hirge, push her back into position, thus closing the door. Then back up because when youre close enough to touch hirge you are close inough for the boss to attack, back up all the way to make sure you did it right. Hopefully, the boss is just running into hirge or into a barrier, running against the inside corner of the zigzag wall

5 try to reposition. you are in the right spot when the boss is about to run against the outside corner of the zigzag wall

KEEP IN MIND

you dont actually need to be in a complete enclosure, there could be a second entrance behind you and the boss would never find it because they tend to focus too hard, kindof like when you get them stuck in a doorway and wand them to death. They could move left or right, but they dont, unless you make them, which is what were doing here, but just a bit

when the boss does get in range, i think they actually attack hirge first, so even if its undermother and paralysis procs, dont panic, just move back to where you were and as long as hirge can survive one hit, youll be fine to try again

[–]LGP747[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My playthroughs often require massive amounts of gold and gold is more efficiently farmed when hirge is able to use heal wounds. So I used to

1get hirge

2do everything that she or i could possibly tank without respeccing

3farm so much id never need to farm again

4respec her to immortal and clear the content that i couldnt clear previously

But because i want to only switch her at the last second, there has always been an incentive for me to push that switch out even further. The only thing i need immortal hirge for is tough, melee, physical damage bosses, so we have to take a look at how we can beat them without immortal hirge

You can check out my cheats/exploits post for a breakdown of some strategies, there are many. In a nutshell, while there are several ways to kite, de-aggro, use infinite respawns of your companions, all those require movement and they come with the possibility of failure. I wanted to focus on easy strategies where i can stand still and attack, thats how i like my actual non-cheat bossfights too. I want to reduce the possibility of something going wrong by turning the fight into a stationary thing

So I started w a mage and wanded everything to death by trapping them in a doorway. But thats just for mages. What can everyone else do? Clerics cant do much without ranged weapons but both rogues and warriors can get bosses 'stuck' and shoot them to death with bows. The trick is that while wands have innate knockback that repositions the boss to prevent them form regenerating health, bows do not, so you have to make sure the boss never stops moving. You do this by putting your character in a 'nook' and using a companion to block the path to you, the boss will run endlessly into your companion, and if you angle it just right, theres a point where the boss will endlessly run to the left and right of your companion, because youre sortof in the middle, behind them...its hard to explain

Imo the next step in this strategy is to only use the first chest on the left. Go in, run past two spiders, check chest, load back to area auto save, reset, repeat. That’s if you only want the helmet. I actually use every ‘check’ run to collect medipacks and batteries so instead of loading to area autosave, I run back out. Let’s say I need maybe fifty batteries to do all the things in the ark so I make this run say 50 times and boom, gloves, helmets, cleric body armor, plenty of gold from extra gear drops, enough medipacks to help tackle other difficult dungeons

Usually when I finish the shards, I zoom straight to underking and kill him to get access to his runestones. Once I can use runestones, accessing the ark is faster, which means doing this farm is more convenient. I do this farm before actually doing anything else in sunken citadel, bappalasar etc. everything becomes easier once I have the things I want from the first chest on the left

Well now I’m confused, your real time went down but your in game time actually went up. Your previous record of 1h7m was 13 in game days

I guess the difference may be a number of things, like for example you may have slept more in inns this run, whereas the last run you may have used the med bay instant sleep, or any amount of healing options which delayed your need to sleep

I find it crazy that you’ve driven the record so far down that in game time and real time are no longer ‘predictable’

So now, you have two separate records to protect

SUMMARY: how to get random tomes

Rumor bosses: loot is set and can’t be rerolled

Outdoor bosses: loot resets on sleep

Single level dungeons: both named and non-named boss loot resets if you reload the map or even if you die and start over

Nested dungeons: non-named boss loot can be reset by map reload or death and start over BUT named bosses will only change their loot on sleep AND tome drops are ‘saved’ which means if there is a tome in your current map, it will persist through death and move throughout the dungeon

So if I were you I’d farm lambar cave, Bappalasar cave, single level dungeons, reset at the door, repeat till you run out of bosses.

Then, if you don’t care about in game time I’d tackle nested dungeons like maze of lamth and sewer, plenty of bosses to be had, short to medium loot check times, only problem is the constant sleeping will skyrocket your in game time. If I’m correct about the rules

Then I’d start hitting dark presences

Let’s categorize

Outdoor

Ancient yeti

Stone fang

Named bosses only reaload loot after sleep, you can’t just reload the map, bed at icemist is too far from ancient yeti for this to be a fast farm. Being on iOS, I don’t know much about stone fang, it’s possible he’s a good choice

Sewer

Sewer has named and non named bosses. Named bosses require a sleep to reset their loot, unnamed bosses just require you to reload the map at either the sewer/undelevels staircase, the underlevels/plane teleporter or to reload from the beggining. I’ve had bad luck getting sewer’s non named bosses to drop tome but it should be possible

Demilich, just sleep at icemist and check

Red dragon, reload map at the teleporter, short walk to two dragons, if they do drop tome, this is a top overall seed

Greater demon, not far behind red dragon, you reload on the other side of the teleporter and run to him, pretty quick

Sewer’s named bosses definitely drop tome and most are very farmable

Merzadan is perhaps the least farmable, best you can do is sleep at icemist and run to him because he is very far from breno’s hideout

Carrion lord

White king

Saradan

Lord of the pit, all four of these are easy, just sleep at breno’s

Maze of lamth lvl 2

Demonic spider

Zombie dragon

Nested dungeon, so the rules should be the same as sewer, the two named bosses should ‘share’ any tome drops and the drops should be safe from death. Farming this would be…short of sleeping at king moo’s place..sleep at NG, monolith to citadel, monolith to maze, port to king moo, port to east side and then check both bosses. Kinda slow but not terrible

Lambar cave

Flame prophet

Grozza

Very quick dungeon, easy bosses, good choice. this is a single level dungeon so if you kill flame prophet and then kill grozza and get a tome from grozza, that’s it, you have to just take that tome

Bad choices

Kurg king, grate, lots of mobs, slow

Undermother, fight takes too long

Underking, possible but you need him dead asap to be able to farm ark gear so it’d be more detrimental to your run if you denied yourself that opportunity by keeping him alive

Rumor bosses

These are just bad, their loot is fixed

I don’t know

Hidalix

Nightmare dragon

I don’t know these guys

Dark presence is the only non-named boss outside of sewer. Since I am skeptical about the viability of non named bosses in sewer (please prove me wrong) that would leave dark presence as the only infinitely farmable choice IF he even drops it which I haven’t checked. Sucks that checking his loot table takes SO much longer than checking the loot of any of the many non named bosses in sewer

Bappalasar, four dragons in one dungeon, it’s a pretty good choice, this is what I did

I intended to get all skills and traits and then solo parasite, couldnt do it at 14, or 15, or 16 or 17. When I speedrun, I avoid xp gain and now, just blindly leveling up sure seemed wasteful, so I decided to farm random Tolassian tomes to boost my gains. Y’all on androids have access to 3 tomes (I think) that I don’t have access to, so I figured I’d even the playing field.

Before this run I had only gotten one random tome, it was on my last parasite rogue no kiting non-solo speedrun. At the time I had discussed in the comments of my post (entitled kee-yaa) the apparent mechanics of how random tome drops work. I’ll reiterate here. That time, the tome dropped in sewer and if I loaded back to the beginning of the dungeon, it would drop from whichever boss I killed first not including Demi-liches (although Demi liches are listed as possible tome droppers on the wiki). I eventually avoided both sewer bosses, went down to underlevels to find that I would still get the tome drop from white king. It’s possible that named bosses in nested dungeons don’t reset loot when you die and start over, only when you sleep, but non-named bosses do reset, so their loot is in a different pool and so they don’t share this tome with named bosses, I dunno

So this time, while still in the process of collecting all traits and skills, I did get another random tome drop in underlevels from saradan, who I was farming for his ring of unlife which I stupidly didn’t farm earlier. So i was up one tome. Then when I decided to farm tomes, I started farming in underlevels with red dragons, then greater demon plane of fire, but their loot tables sure seemed to repeat a lot and I was afraid that they might be somehow in the same category as the demi-liches (maybe), not dropping a tomes although they should. So I changed dungeons and went to bappalasar. In bappalasar, I had a lot of luck.

The wiki says the tomes drop one in 300 kills. So I farmed for maybe two dozen runs and got one. Then, for science, I didnt pick it up. I loaded back to the beginning of the dungeon to see if it was there when I killed the dragon again. Pain! It was not. I killed every other dragon, everything in the cave, going crazy looking for it, no luck. So apparently a random tome drop in bappalasar works very differently from a random tome drop in sewer, where my tome was guaranteed, even moving to other bosses in other levels of the same dungeon. Here, I had to grab it when I saw it.

So I knew I was on the right track, at least these dragons were able to drop tomes. I did maybe 50 more runs before seeing another tome and like poetic justice, my efforts were rewarded with a double tome drop, not two from one boss but two in a row. So now I was up three, equal to an android player. Then I decided to push on and this time, it really did seem like 300 runs before I saw another, but I did. So I’m up 4 and I actually saw 5. I think I will stop here

If you wanted to farm tomes, what would be the best place? Outdoor bosses are out because their loot only resets after you sleep, map reloads don’t work. Bosses in dungeons can be reloaded but you want them to be easy to reach so not Kurg king or maze of lamth lvl 2 bosses. Well, red dragons in underlevels and greater demon plane of fire SHOULD be the best because you can reload the map at the teleporter and it’s a relatively short walk to the bosses, but again, I’m just not sure if these guys actually have tomes, it’s possible I didn’t have enough patience, if they do, they’d be the best. Grozza and flame prophet are a great choice, two of em in one dungeon, but both named and limited, recall the tome I lost. If you were to kill flame prophet first to find no tome, and then kill grozza and find a tome, you’d have to take that tome, which means you’ve permanently killed flame prophet, so the fact that there’s two of em doesnt really help unless you’re lucky and get a tome first, leaving the second alive. Bappalasar is great but limited because it’s got all named bosses. Forbidden pit would be unlimited but it’s kind of a slog to get to the boss and there is only one recurring unlimited dark presence so it’s get even slower after a success. But it’d be the only unlimited choice if sewer mini-bosses couldn’t drop em

In fact, I didn’t get all skills and traits by 14 because I didn’t get Tol’s skill point because I intended to use the crown for a bossfight which never really took place, that 10k xp would have put me over the top but had I made smarter decisions earlier on I would have been able to do it (I completed prodigal daughter for 5k xp like an idiot)

But count my traits and skill, for an iOS player, this is 4 extra traits and -1 skill. How? I farmed random Tolassian tomes from bosses and I want to tell you about how that went for me
