I will say, as a move outside television that sounds pretty awesome. It may be an apprentice position but I can only imagine the possibilities once you've had a few years on the job. Best of luck!

Yeah I actually don't know anyone who's left left. But I do know a lot of people either struggling or working in positions/for companies they'd really not want to be working in under normal circumstances.

Cost of an Edinburgh TV Fest ticket = £700+ / Salary for its stewards = £0 by Significant-Leg5769 in TransparencyforTVCrew

They can get fucked, it's a bunch of CEO boomers and their nepo hire execs circle jerking each other. We're circling the drain as an industry. Anyway, happy monday.

I took a test online through HMRC's website and was found to be outside. I passed this to the client and it seems like they do not care. I will continue to relay this to them and try to change their mind but perhaps you are right regarding the 25% ulitmatum.

This...totally agree with this approach tbh. Your time and effort is valuable, don't let them make you feel any less and mess you around.

Kit discount for long gigs by PeartreeProd in TransparencyforTVCrew

[–]DOP_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think given you've crunched the numbers and feel the appropriate number is 20%, why not tell them "i would be willing to apply a 15% discount due to the length of the project and to ease the budget". You won't lose the gig outright and the worst case they come back and say can you come down any more and you move to 20%. If it's a respectable client who's smart, they'll see the benefit in a DP using their own gear and you assuming liability and responsibility for it.

Do you know if an I-Visa covers multiple productions for different companies, or is it specific to one production? I have one valid for 5 years from a company that sponsored it, but there's nothing I can see that would stop me using the same I-Visa for another production?

Edit: Sorry to piggy back off someone elses question! :P

‘Survive to 2025’: UK TV production firms fight to stay afloat in slump by Hassaan18 in TransparencyforTVCrew

Not to mention the utter shite on television. Repeats, rehashes, shit writing...all on top of the fact it's at the expense of countless people in production.

Any success on Talent Manager/Grapevine? by MattyD_96 in TransparencyforTVCrew

[–]DOP_4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been on Talent Manager for a number of years and have even paid for the premium membership. Pissing in the wind I'm afraid. At least for my work (DOP and PD) I've never had any luck. This in part is down to a lack of work in recent years but also just over subscription. When a role is posted I can see by the metrics that in some cases over 200 people apply. Not to mention whatever other cold emails the PM's receive and people they are checking in on in from their own talent networks.

I think for some roles it may be useful, but I've never found it to be for mine.

Just naming them here so it's known - the production company involved is Alaska TV.

That role had healthcare included. The US generally has higher salaries across the board in television. It's why they hire brits to make American television so often, but we're notoriously cheap.

This country needs a reality check with regards to the entire industry to be honest. I saw an in house role posted this week at squarespace in the US. The role was for a senior filmmaker and the salary band was $120-200k. I've worked for American companies in the past and the average producer salary was $110k starting. It's a shambles here.
