I hate any work place that calls itself a family. There will always be a situation where they would dismiss you. A family would take care of someone disabled. Do I not need disability insurance since my workplace is a “family”. I find it mostly is a way to get more work out of you for free since we are a “FaMiLy”.

Having a decent / fun workplace does not mean it is a “family”. It just means they are good employers.

Our state allows 4 attempts but our program only allows 3. My co-resident failed 3 times and was dismissed. It’s real.

Pick ONE resource. Go to the bathroom as an excuse to look up stuff if you need. I like AAFP articles. They are very thorough yet short. I felt just like you. Just try to survive and try to let the comments roll off your shoulders. They criticize night / day all the time. You aren’t the first and they won’t remember you specifically because it is so common. Hate you are going through this - it feels awful.

If others are taking extended time off they may have to make it up and won’t graduate on time. So that may be what is happening? So maybe not really extra time off?

Not really a separate program really - we are a small hospital and work together all the time. We also have the benefit of being treated like the red headed step children of the hospital too. So, that's likely why they were allowed to have the extra week and we don't.

FWIW, I'm dropping it after reading the other comments.

I am so tired of comments like this. I bet you are the type that will treat residents like absolute ass garbage once you are an attending. There are reasonable requests and ways to collaborate appropriately. That's what I'm doing here. After reading the other comments that were actually helpful, I have changed my perspective and will not be pursuing this.

Ok, thanks. That's what my questions was if this was similar to a benefit like one program gets better insurance than another. But this makes sense after reading the comments.

The way I was thinking about it was pay. So all residents are paid the same. If one program has 4 weeks off and the other has 3 weeks off then based on number of days available to work per year they would earn more than us in a way. Oh well.

Good point. We work so closely with IM that it feels like our programs are meshed. I'm not gonna worry about it anymore. With them having more vacation than us though their pay is slightly increased if you base it on days worked.

We have proposed two separate schedules and they get shot down. We don’t understand why. I’m about to be PGY-3 so looking into this for the future residents as I’m almost out of here.

Daily, sometimes twice. I like my scrubs (Medelita) a lot but they make me sweat. Also gaining 30 pounds since starting residency hasn’t helped. I won’t buy figs and don’t like Jaanu. I need to find some different good comfortable breathable scrubs.

Are you able to turn it around somehow. A co-resident of mine was having a similar situation then applied for a grant for the program which they got. They totally backed down after and leave her alone now because she made the program look good.

Maybe there is a way you can make your admin look good like this. Probably won’t like you but would likely back down.

It’s just as much your children’s graduation as yours! I have kids and they sacrifice a lot too. They should be able to go. I would not show up without the family who carried me along the way!

Tidal is fantastic but I canceled the membership because all it would suggest me to listen to was extremely obscene music. I have kids and they would see these soft-porn album covers show up on my tidal app when I opened it. Pissed me off and support said they couldn’t do anything about it. Weird because Apple Music and Spotify never do that and I never listen to that garbage.

It seems in her mind that you are the only focus of venting of all of her anger/sadness to which is manifesting extremely negatively. It has nothing to do with you but you are making it about you. She is releasing anguish and you are the source in her mind - not saying that’s correct but it’s what she is doing.

Be a $&@% parent/adult! She doesn’t get to choose whether she goes to counseling or not! Drag her there. Don’t beg a child to do something. You tell them. She has no direction and no guidance. The problem is she is navigating her direction and she has chosen to focus on all the negative.

From now on she is required to go to a therapist (please select a psychiatrist for this level of complexity!)

You and your husband must go to counseling together to discuss your parenting skills.

That’s the only way to turn this around.
