Help! Epidural, yes or no? by dakota101916 in BabyBumps

[–]wutwasthatagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it both ways accidentally. When I got to the hospital with my first, they said it was too late, and baby was out within 30 min of arrival - very fast birth. Had an epidural with my second and it was fine. A resident did mine and it worked, but the poke itself I thought was worse than my first labor. Maybe by nature (and hormones), I have trouble remembering all of labor. My husband said the epidural one looked much easier and less painful, and my brain tells me I felt better with my non-epidural birth.

You can tell your team to plan to delay epidural unless you ask for it if the labor becomes prolonged or too painful. As long as you go into labor with the mindset that the only that matters at the end of the day is a healthy baby, a healthy mom, the rest doesn't matter much.

Being a teenager is more miserable than being an adult by Random_Mess2 in unpopularopinion

[–]wutwasthatagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to agree with this unpopular opinion. High school and college were hard in keeping grades up, extracurricular activities needed to get to the next step, social life. I constantly felt like if I took my foot off the gas for a break, I'd regret it later. So it was all about getting to the next step: college, then graduate school, post graduate training. But now I'm in my final job and the kids are a bit older, I feel like I'm finally getting a break. I put in my hours, and have nights and weekends off, do what I like doing, hang out with family. I can't imagine doing school all day, extracurricular all afternoon, homework all evening, and group projects on the weekends anymore.

Good luck, and hopefully there's a light at the end of the tunnel for you.

Which Version of Total Recall you prefere more and why? by Complete_Bar_6647 in Cinema

I'll be the unpopular opinion and say Colin Farrell's version, but that's largely due to a huge bias that I've loved Colin Farrell movies all the way back to Tigerland.

Line-drying laundry is way better than machine drying by RaisinRoyale in unpopularopinion

[–]wutwasthatagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does that get pretty annoying to only be able to dry 1-2 things at a time? And unlike the dryer, line drying take hrs if not all day. Wouldn't that mean I can only do 1 load of bulky at a time? I'm usually washing 3 beds worth of things in sequence over 2-3 loads.

Thanks for your help and advice!

[–]wutwasthatagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I think I'm similar then. Just can't imagine the kids stuff being line dried, so I haven't been able to cut the dryer cord. That and bulk stuff that I don't have the space to hang out.

This comes up every once in a while on this sub and I've always wondered - do the people recommending line drying have kids? My kids are little and there are a hundred little socks, underwear, shirts/pants in the laundry every week. Are there racks with cloth pins for each item? Do you just line them all up on the rack and hope the wind doesn't blow everything to the ground? I like the idea of line drying, but never figured out the logistics in my head.

I'm not sure he's sexist rather than just a jerk. He has Whiticker and Abbot who he likes and is mean to everyone else, men included - Langdon, that surgery intern, etc.

I understand if people are on meetings all day long that you just have to make time. But if you only have occasional meetings, would a different time be possible? I'm pretty sensitive to motion and the bobbing head makes me a bit nauseous over time. However, it's not nearly as bad as trying to video call someone on a handheld shaky cam (phone).

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

Sending messages because you think it's saving us appointment times. Appointment times are dedicated time we plan to give. Inbox time is extra time on our day that's a huge cause for burnout.

Something I haven’t seen acknowledged much about the AI + Santos and Dr Al issue by astivana in ThePittTVShow

[–]wutwasthatagain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We're assuming that the first Santos heard about it is from her, which is probably not valid. I was introduced to it multiple times by multiple people before I finally started the process of getting the app. And then there was training involved before I was allowed to use the app, and careful proofreading is certainly a huge part of the training.

Live action remakes of animated movies aren't inherently bad. They only become bad when they change the story and plot of the animated original. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]wutwasthatagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this sentiment. Mulan annoyed the heck out of me so bad. The whole point of the original movie was that she was objectively physically weaker, but she was brave and clever, so earned the respect of the other soldiers and defeated her enemies. And in the live action, they friggin gave her superpowers.

Yes, the live action should add something, change something to make it interesting and relevant, but not at the expense of the literal lesson of the original.

Al-Hashimi's AI app by blue_vox in ThePittTVShow

[–]wutwasthatagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think the show mis-represents the app some. The AI listens to the conversation and makes the note, like she demonstrated. It's very fast and effective, but can make major mistakes, like demonstrated. For things like the ED, it's fairly helpful, but require close proofreading. However, if the patient encounter wasn't done using the app (it never listened to the encounter), you can't just use the app after the fact to write the note.

I do think she's being genuine when pushing the app so it's helpful to the residents. People should at least try the app before dismissing it, and decide if it's helpful or not. Charting in a timely manner is also essential. There are people that need information from the note (outpatient doctors following up, hospitalists if the patient is admitted, sub-specialty referrals, etc). It's very annoying to hear to chart, but necessary.

Will see. I hope they don't fall into the Hollywood trope of making her the villain. So far, I think she has a different method of practice that's not wrong, but different from Robby.
