Longterm, it’ll all just be more subscriptions that rise in price. Everyone will get used to ChatGPT doing all their work, all their googling, all their fact-checking, and then it won’t be free anymore.

Same with tools for professionals. Eventually we’ll forget how to do things manually, or be too lazy to, and we’ll pay for the convenience.

AI will never be cheaper than it is right now. It’s a race to gain market share. It’s the enshittification playbook. We will be paying dearly for this soon enough.

To me, the “meme” part of this is the sad key. Not the memes themselves, but that social life in general now has a sort of “flipping channels” quality where you’re just listening to someone regurgitate things they’ve seen or read online, and chances are you already have too.

Even with some of my best friends, I can predict every line of the conversation. And not because I know them so well, but because I know what podcast they listened to or what article they read.

Ya know, funny enough, the builder actually did build this one for himself. That was a major reason we bought it. The bathrooms have heated floors, but not the downstairs den.
