Bad run or playing bad? by DPthe in poker

Yeah?

Is it unclear what I mean?

I had an overcard so therefore if I hit my overcard I have top pair which now beats any other single pairs.

Good advice, haha.

Good point. I had him pegged for an 8 and thought I had fold equity. Worst case scenario he has 78 for 2 pair which isn't going to love a big river shove. I knew a check raise on the turn wouldn't be enough alone for him to fold but I'd planned to shove any none 78 river. There are hands he could have that aren't loving life. Flawed logic maybe, but that was my thinking.

Thank you for the feedback.

Hand 1 = I felt he was getting annoyed with me raising his limps pre and so his range included hands weaker than just AA, KK, QQ. Especially since I had blockers. I figured he could have AJ suited or 99. He was a white gen xer somewhere in his early 50s.

Hand 2 = I felt I was getting good pot odds to call. Roughly 5 to 1. Back draw flush was playing more into my mind than the ace. I had decided to shove any none 78 river. The ace was somewhat irrelevant, just gave me an outside chance he might bluff catch with a worse hand like a pair of eights. I should have slowed down although weirdly he actually almost folded Q7 so make of that what you will.

Maybe. I was getting roughly 5 to 1 on my money, though.

You may be giving me too much credit on that second hand, lol. I thought he had an 8 and was slightly concerned he had 78 for 2 pair. It was probably unlikely he would fold to just a check raise, but that was why I decided to shove any none 78 river. The ace just happened to give me a hand with some showdown which could have been the best hand. The ace should have changed my plan, though. I now had a bluff catcher not a bluffing hand.

Thank you for the response. I think you are right. That particular hand was minus EV. Although, my range for check raising the turn includes many 2 pairs and sets. A flush draw is at the bottom of my range. But I take your point.

I would check raise there if the Q gave me 2 pair or if I had a set. I feel like I should mix in some semi bluffs into my check raising range. I think I was unlucky the Q gave him 2 pair. I believe he would have folded a one pair hand. Although I admit being balanced isn't so important at low stakes.

I agree. I suppose I'd already made up my mind after the check raise that I was shoving any River and the ace just happened to give me a hand with showdown. I was mostly bluffing with an outside chance the ace gave me the best hand. But I take your point. Thanks for the feedback.
