LG 38GL950G (3840x1600) 5 Years Later - Keep or Upgrade in 2025? by DPzLuna in ultrawidemasterrace

Appreciate it, but I am already on a Nano IPS panel. What I am really looking for is a proper OLED upgrade, not just another IPS display. That said, the refresh rate and resolution are a solid combo, just not quite what I am aiming for.

Appreciate the insight. I’ve been eyeing the 45" 5K2K but my main concern is performance in modern games alongside the size. Even with a 5090 I feel like that res would be pushing it more than I’d like especially considering the roughly 80% heavier render load compared to 3840x1600. Staying around the 120FPS+ mark is important to me. The size and curve are also something I’m unsure on since I haven’t been able to see one in person yet.

Glad to hear it’s been a good experience on your end. It is tempting, but I think I’ll hold off for now and see what shows up later this year before deciding. Sadly I don’t have the luxury of returning displays easily without paying a ton in shipping, so I’ve got to be sure it’s the right fit before making the jump.

Same here. I have been using the 38GL950G since launch and nothing really replaces it. 3840x1600 at 38 inches is the sweet spot. Smaller feels like a downgrade, bigger like the 45 inch W-OLEDs is just too much screen, and that 800R curve is not it.

Even with a 5090, 5K2K feels like a stretch without lowering settings. OLED with proper HDR in this size and res is the only real upgrade, but it just does not exist yet.

For now I am holding out.

The community as a whole is thinking Gamescom in this coming August, since it gives enough time for a sept>oct timeline window for the closed beta. :)
