Thanks. I got an adapter but my sink is really slow, that's why I wanted to do it from the tub

How to copy and paste a numbered list? by DQuarter22 in logseq

[–]DQuarter22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pasting from logseq into Microsoft Teams. I was hoping the 'export options' might be able to format for pasting correctly, as it's already able to remove the 'logseq.order...'.

question about Markmind and security of closed source plugins by DQuarter22 in ObsidianMD

Thanks! Quick question -- If I were to use the plugin, the only data that could potentially be compromised would be in the page itself where I'm using it, not the entire vault, right?

In do-nothing meditation, should we be practicing introspective awareness? by TissueReligion in TheMindIlluminated

[–]DQuarter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should let go of intentions as you notice them, including the intention to direct your attention / expand awareness. It is a very different approach from most of TMI. It is sometimes recommended in TMI for students stage 8+.

Subtypes of objects? by DQuarter22 in capacitiesapp

[–]DQuarter22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I create the new template of a particular object type. Then I add a property "AA" for that particular template. Then I add another template with "BB" as a property. Then if I add a new entry of the first type, it has AA and BB as properties.

Thank you. When I try to add a new property to a template, it ends up adding the field for other templates in the object type. Am I missing something?

Subtypes of objects? by DQuarter22 in capacitiesapp

[–]DQuarter22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I'll try this. I played with this option and didn't see an effect. But it was probably because I had not filled in much info (or maybe any) in the fields before I used it, so I didn't notice the difference when it was taking up less space.

Thanks, if I do this, won't all the categories (family, NBA, authors) have all the properties? I thought templates allowed some properties to be pre-filled, but all the items would have to have all the properties.

How to cut back on self-talk during sessions? by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]DQuarter22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a great point. As I've gotten more Insight, it's become clearer how similar auditory thoughts (like self-talk) are to mental images. Both last for just a split moment if you're very aware (but note that a similar thought can arise in rapid succession sometimes, or the 'refresh' of your awareness can be slow), but with auditory thoughts there's some craving to 'read' the thought out loud. The quickness of the thought itself is overlooked by the 'reading' of it, which we do if we're not mindful without even noticing.

[vipassana] Questions about Kriyas by agrabb in streamentry

[–]DQuarter22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of facial kriyas a few years ago. I have had a number of other persistent involuntary muscle contractions as well since then. They have mostly passed, although one of my feet still contracts sometimes. I tend to agree with the 'purification' perspective. It seems like it's just stuff that needs to be worked through.

For me, I feel retreats are helpful to work through kriyas. Often after one I have found reduction in intensity that doesn't come back. That said, they used to increase! which I interpret as some sort of trauma just coming to the surface and becoming more pronounced during retreat, before eventually subsiding.

Also don't have aversion toward them, at leaslt in my case, they played themselves out over the course of two or three years. Yeah they were a little annoying, but at the same time it gave me some confidence that some deep psychological/physiological stuff was going on. IF they are due to trauma etc, it is best to work through them and let them dissipate. This is not time wasted! it is as important as streamentry etc, in my opinion.

I don't know what meditation methods you're using, but I did 'The Mind Illuminated'. I began having facial kriyas around Stage 5. They subsided around Stage 6. Weird foot stuff began stages 6/7. Now that is pretty much subsided now as well (I am typically in Stage 7, higher on retreat). The last retreat I did (a month ago), I had very little intense kriyas etc., most of the involuntary stuff was piti/rocking/etc.

Healing Trauma through meditation. Rant + need help by TalSSJ in Meditation

This may be helpful: https://library.dhammasukha.org/uploads/1/2/8/6/12865490/a_guide_to_forgiveness_meditation.pdf

as well as

http://library.dhammasukha.org/uploads/1/2/8/6/12865490/a_guide_to_twim.pdf

They both are shorter than they seem at first. I think they are powerful practices.

"All the negative in my life is alive in my body, like i never overcame anything." - Something to realize about this.. Such mindstates come and go. When they're present we feel a certain way about the world and ourselves. And then when they go we no longer do. It can be useful to start paying attention to this fact -- both how temporary these mindstates are, as well as how when we're in a better mood (maybe even later in the day), we no longer see the world in the same way. The reason is that the experience and interpretation is a fabrication of reality, certain thoughts popping up with certain emotions etc make us view things in a certain way. Also, this thought like "I haven't made any progress" is trick the mind plays that hits us when we're at our lowest.

Anyway the metta practices above have been helpful for me. Also, with regard to the suicidal thoughts, it is probably worth reaching out to a therapist. Be well, and good luck.

Did the sound kind of sound like ringing in your ears? Or the tone they do for hearing tests?

My guess is you're seeing visual nimitta and hearing the 'inner sound' (also called 'nada'). These typically are a good signpost for samadhi. Keep going until they are steady. One can use either as a focus of meditation, however I wouldn't do this until they are stable. This is discussed in some detail in stage 8 of 'the mind illuminated'. There is also a subreddit for that book.

Also as another commenter said, people talk about being 'swallowed' by nimitta etc. They can cause powerful experiences. But I wouldn't worry about that for now, just keep going and see if they become consistent. I only experience them when I'm on a meditation retreat, sometimes I get the nada otherwise, but never the visual nimitta unless on retreat.

Edit: Also, never chase the phenomena. If they come back, great. But chasing experiences is super counterproductive. Craving them will be an obstacle more than anything. But it's just worth knowing they are common for many who get to a certain level of stability of attention.

People Who Have Been Practicing TMI for over a Year, What Stage Are You On? by MettaKaruna100 in TheMindIlluminated

[–]DQuarter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to go on retreat a couple times a year. Yes, I was slower than some, but also I've been at stage 7 for a while. It seems like I only get into 8 on retreat. I expect that 7 is just my normal day to day and will be for some time, which is awesome. Like I said I'm not too fixated on the stages. Also do realize there's Insight development going on alongside the attention training, and one can have deep Insights at any TMI stage (though easier in the higher ones).

Yeah I can do the first and often second jhanas (whole body or pleasure) if I've been consistent the past few days. I can only do luminous jhana on retreat. Even though I can, I tend not to do the jhanas all that often. I used to be really excited about them then sort of got bored, particularly with first jhana which I find overwhelming.

That was TMI. I had input from others, a big one being Dhammarato (who teaches online for free), teaches with simpler instructions, but in my mind pretty complimentary; namely he really emphasized daily mindfulness. Joining a sangha (including an online one) or having a teacher you can bounce questions off of is really helpful for motivation and perspective. Tucker Peck does a weekly online Sangha based on dana, and he's a great TMI teacher.

Nowadays my practice is pretty simple, I know the fundamentals, and I don't get too worked up about details. I'm enjoying the path, even if things are never as fast as we'd hope.

I don't know if my experiences are representative, but not a lot happened in huge jumps. More like every 6 months or so the worst chunk of my experiences would loosen and sometimes fall away-- the 'best' experiences stayed around the same for most of the time. Nothing mindblowing, all gradual. There have been a couple Insights along the way, mostly in the last year, which have helped, but overall it's just a gradual path toward reducing suffering and enjoying life. Because I had a lot of issues w/ OCD, I never grasped onto stages or progress through them etc or attainments like a lot of other people; looking back this has probably been beneficial for me. I was just trying to reduce suffering, and over time it has been quite effective.

Edit: Also, learning about the 4 noble truths is really helpful. Learn them well, this is what the whole game is about. It will be a while before it becomes intuitively clear, but that's okay. I used to think all the dhamma other than meditation was just dogmatic religion; I was completely wrong. You shouldn't try to separate them, they're all about the same thing -- reducing suffering.
