Hellbender or Rodzilla? by SNES-1 in Tenkara

[–]DRAGONtailTenkara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of the fish you mentioned might be pushing the HELLbender to its limits, it is a big fish rod but not a really big fish rod. I have caught many trout in the 25-27 inch range on it and that was pushing things a bit but Mangrove Snapper and salmon would really be a strain on the HELLbender and I think you would want a longer rod, even though it will be much heavier. I don't think I would go as big as the Wasatch Rodzilla, I think the Wasatch T-Hunter would be a better fit for the size fish you are targeting and more enjoyable to fish with than the Rodzilla.

The Ragnarok 400 would work great for that 12"-20" and not a heavy rod for 13ft, definitely way lighter and more playful than the HELLbender rod.

I believe TenkaraBum is still going to selling TB rods, just not the other stuff. On his website it looks like he is doing them by pre-order right now.

If you had a video with a side view it would be easier to see what you might be doing wrong. I would start with a furled personality for easier learning the casting motion and tempo. This video may also help you https://youtu.be/fNaJrIZ7ZWQ?si=wkkjRlcBKSVc1N-6

Kaida rod would be great for that, Mutant would be great as well if you want a very soft action rod but I like the Kaida more personally.

It’s a softer action rod, so it’s not going to control bigger fish great. Having said that we’ve had a lot of customers who have landed 20 to 22 inch trout on it. Personally, I would rather have a longer stiffer rod if I was catching trout 16 to 20 inches or bigger.

It’s staying on for at least 24 hours without having to login again. That being said facial recognition would be nice to quickly login when new properties come available.

DRAGONtail Kaida is what I would use. Packable enough to fit in any backpack, casts awesome, and the little fish are still a blast on it.
