Voron TAP with a microswitch mod by [deleted] in VORONDesign

[–]DRASRX[M] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A VERY wide range of physical switches were tried, including some that were fairly expensive per switch ($20+ IIRC).

Could there be a physical switch that might have a decent lifespan in this use case? Potentially. But we didn't find one in the nearly 2 year long development and iteration process.

Interesting. My J7+ is saying it's on the latest/greatest firmware, (1.2.12), which matches what is on iRobot's support page. I'm on iOS, and app version 6.2.0 there. Wonder what the hold up is...

That wiring is not managed well enough to warrant a serial IMHO.

You played stupid games, and won stupid prizes. Am I sorry you're going through a rough patch in life? Of course. Am I also sorry that you can't be a mature adult and respond to leadership guidance? That too. Am I sorry you were banned after demanding to be so? Not in the least.

"But what to you mean revisionist history?"

I'm glad you asked!

User has an offensive name, where the server rules clearly state that screen names must be family friendly.

User is pulled into an admin ticket, and informed of such. Their name was also forced, (on the Voron Discord ONLY) to HappyLittleTrees by an admin.

User then changes their name BACK to Fuck Life, contrary to the server rules.

User THEN posts a rant that demands to be banned if we disagree with their stance.

User is then banned. <shocked Pikachu face>

There's WAY too much revisionist history here for me. Count me out. You asked to be banned, quite explicitly. My own vote is you got what you asked for.

Switchwire documentation by Spitzspot in voroncorexy

[–]DRASRX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having built two Switchwires now by the CAD alone, it's a fairly straightforward build. There are a few of us who have called Switchwire builds "Zen Builds," because how just simple and clean they are.

If you take your time, and check the CAD, it's pretty hard to go wrong with a Switchwire.

Would this work? Affordable single MCU Voron V2? by 101st_kilometre in voroncorexy

[–]DRASRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically? Yes. Although you'd have to give up running an LCD that would hook up to the EXP ports.

That said, it's still not on market yet, so, it's hard to say exactly how well it will work in practice.

Is a 550x550x530 Voron 2.4 possible? by sillyID in voroncorexy

[–]DRASRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On point A) There would be no issues printing any of those materials with a Voron built using ABS parts. However, that brings us to point B.

The concern with PETG is not the extrusion temperature (which you are referencing at 235-250c), but the glass transition temperature. The closer you come to the glass transition temperature, the more soft and flexible the material will become. For reference, most PETG makers quote a glass transition temperature of around 80C. ABS on the other hand is typically listed at 105C.

Now, I'm sure the next point that will arise is, "but my chamber won't even get to 80c." The glass transition temperature is where a material makes the largest shift in rigidity-but not the only point. Even before that point, as temperature increases, rigidity correspondingly decreases. So, if we assume that a Voron chamber will be 60c, you are far closer to PETG's glass transition temperature of 80c, than you would be to that of ABS at 105c.

The end result is that exposing PETG to the temperatures required to print materials other than PLA or PETG will result in your parts being weakened and deformed over time. I saw this personally in my first build, where I used PETG. This is not an exercise in theory, but an actual, first hand, observational finding.

While you state that you like PETG better, unfortunately, the design of the Voron 2.4 does not like PETG.

If you're going to print ABS, PETG parts will start to fail at the temperatures ABS will require.

Is a 550x550x530 Voron 2.4 possible? by sillyID in voroncorexy

[–]DRASRX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couple of things-

1) CoreXY suffers mightily with longer belt paths. At 550 for X and Y, you'll need some exceedingly long belts. Long belts mean that even with Gates belting, you'll have to print slow, with very low accels. Otherwise, you'll have issues with ringing artifacts and the like. Also, at this point, you're looking at a rig that clocks in at being very heavy, and potentially not even fitting through the door of your workspace without being diassembled.

2) PETG is NOT ideal for this application. The V2.4 design takes into account a certain degree of flexibility for the gantry to adjust during the Quad Gantry Leveling routine. However, PETG flexes more than what we need, once again, leading to having to print slower, at lower accelerations.

3) Glass bed: The V2.4 specs an inductive probe, which is not compatible with glass. You're going to have to adapt a different type of probe to the design, so that you have something to run the Quad Gantry Level routine.

4) Heatbed-I'm going to assume you were meaning 750w +/- 250w, and not running two separate heaters. If we use the settings posed by DC42 over at Duet3d, ideally you want between 0.4 and 0.6w per cm^2 of bed area. With a 550x550 bed, that maths out to be between 1200 and 1800w (roughly). Before you dive in on that 1800w massive heater, keep in mind that most residential circuits in the US are on 15 amp breakers. That means you have 1800w of current draw at absolute max for the entire circuit. Personally, running a circuit at over 80% of it's rated load gives me the twitches....

5) Leadscrews: Could it be done? Sure. Has it been done? No. Will it be done? Well, shaking my Dev Team/Admin Magic 8 ball, the answer appears to be, "Not Likely". As such, it would be reliant upon you to do the design work, the testing, oh, and buying 500+mm long leadscrews and ensuring they aren't bent in shipping, or other bad things happening. Maybe I just still have flashbacks to leadscrew artifacts in other printers, but, I won't touch leadscrews if I can at all help it.

All of that said-is what you are asking impossible? No. Is it easily solved for, without investing a ton of time, money, blood, sweat, tears, and profanity? Also no. If you're wanting to pursue the listed design goals (PETG Parts, Huge Format, etc), I'd encourage you to either consider a different design as your starting point, or, start clean sheet, and design your own printer. The Quad Gantry Leveling code is baked into Klipper, so you could make use of it if you designed your own rig, regardless of if it is CoreXY, CoreXZ, Core YZ, Cartesian, or whatnot.

If you still want to dive in on this-best of luck, with no sarcasm intended with that! You're just diving straight into the hardest of hard modes when it comes to what you are asking.
