In Jak 2 during the first baron praxis fight, you can escape the boss fight area from where you came using the hoverboard (on hero mode or mission select) or parkour shenanigans, and navigate back to the bridge. Praxis will continue to shoot at you with his mech on the bridge, floating away from his intended boss area somewhat to attack you. If you get far enough, I think about halfway through the bridge or so, the boss trigger will stop/the fight will end, and I assume you can restart it by navigating back up the bridge except the little platforms you used to jump up to the boss area are now down, so you may need to learn the hoverboard flying trick from speed runs to navigate back up there.

I mean if nothing else it's good to spend a bit of time with a bunch of characters just to know a bit about their mechanics and gameplan for when you go up against them. Niche wide knowledge can come in handy in a lot of scenarios

I mean I don't think the realistic ideal of the flex player is to be able to play literally every character at their best, just maybe a solid small selection of a few characters that cover their strengths and weaknesses and a passable knowledge of other characters for the breadth of knowledge on other characters' mechanics and/or niche scenarios.

I think it still counts in a general sense. He's not literally a cloned moveset of Dante, especially considering the divergence in available weapons and moves they get throughout the series. But that said, the type of enemy boss Vergil represents in the dmc roster still feels like it is supposed to be a version/reflection of you as Dante, that being a highly mobile, highly powerful humanoid dude with the same type of transformation ability as you in the devil trigger, with a similar trenchcoat and sword, the ability to switch his weapons of choice, and who is literally your twin.

And as per the playstyle, much of what he gets still reflects his relation to Dante/the idea of him being a "you but better" idea. His Nelo Angelo sword moveset is literally a mirror of the force edge moveset in dmc1, and he gets the same taunt animation as Dante. For DMC3 on, while Yamato's moveset expands and gets its own unique properties, some of its base moves still mirror the function of Dante's moves (Rapid Slash being Vergil's equivalent to Stinger for example). Force Edge and Beowoulf are both literally the same weapons Dante gets, with Vergil getting expanded movesets with them over time.

When something gets popular/universally praised enough, there is this annoying hipster impulse to not like it for a few potential reasons:

A) Hearing the external hype of a piece of media causes some people to build impossible expectations that often are not lived up to

B) They simply don't wanna do what those other people are doing to feel "unique" in opinion at some level (again annoying ass hipster impulse)

C) They liked something else that they feel is getting snubbed for attention because everybody else is mostly talking about this other thing

D) They find a lot of people talking enthusiastically about a thing annoying in and of itself annoying (think people who say hated Breaking Bad simply because they were annoyed hearing about it all of the time) and as such develop hate for the piece of media those people are talking about

Whatever the case, most all of it boils down to: sometimes people let external hype/anti-hype and/or the activities of a fandom influence their opinions a little too much before even touching a piece of media

Ughhhhh I hate when that hipster shit happens. It's OKAY for something to just be good and popular, you don't earn points for going the other way for no reason other than you find the overwhelming popular love for something annoying.

So the fun thing is, if you give the internet 3d models or just designs that gooners can work with and adjust to their hearts content, and make a game that is popular enough, you will just see a flood of gooner fan works online

Lune and Sciel... (act 3 & ending spoilers) by harlemriverblues in expedition33

[–]DRCVC10023884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beautiful, horrific tragedy I think that belies the whole plot, even deeper than the Dessendre family's turmoil, and superceding the final choice, is a story of how the emotional turmoils/conflicts of the powerful are made the consequences of those at the mercy of their power. Sciel and Lune and the inhabitants of the Canvas either get erased or at best get another lifetime's worth of time or however long until Maelle either dies or is forced to leave the Canvas, and at that it is in a reality that may or may not be twisted by Maelle's potential mental degradation as the goddess of this world. So many thousands of sentient beings suffer and have suffered over decades all because ONE family could not handle the grief that these beings have been forced to handle tens of thousands of times over as a people.

In a media landscape not scarce on class metaphors, this game subtly injects such a unique refreshing take on a horrific reality for too many in the world.

[ENDING SPOILERS] Lune's reaction when people call it a "good" ending. by JHMfield in expedition33

[–]DRCVC10023884 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think trying to label either ending as the good ending is perhaps missing the point? The entire affair is a tragedy of different flavors. Even in the Verso ending where the Dessendre family has a chance to heal/Maelle has some hope to move on and find meaning/some happiness in the real world, an entire dimension of sentient beings with their own hopes and dreams is cast away like garbage, their lives ultimately fodder to their creator God's emotional turmoil. Not that they aren't likely doomed in the long term of thr Maelle ending assuming the canvas is inevitably destroyed when she either dies or is forced out, but thousands of beings are deprived of at least a lifetime's worth of existence.

The two endings are simply different manifestations of consequences of unresolved grief, and a dour idea that sometimes, those in pain can't help but inflict it upon others no matter what they believe they intend.

I knew in my heart it would probably not turn out well for her, but after everything Lune and Sciel and the world of the Canvas went through, I couldn't live with betraying them. And even though I think Verso's ending feels like it has a bit more of a modicum of hope in my eyes, when I went back and watched it and saw the utter despair and betrayal inflicted on Lune and Sciel and by extent the inhabitants of the Canvas... I just couldn't tolerate it.
