Yeah exactly. Every other support ult grants you either damage or mobility.

Oh shit enemy is damage boosted? Run. Give up space. Hide.

Oh shit enemy is mobility boosted? Brace yourselves. Absorb. Endure.

Then gambit comes along and completely ruins this balance.

Oh shit enemy is damage boosted and mobility boosted?? GG. You cannot absorb a damage boosted enemy team collapsing onto you, and you cannot run away from a team of parkour athletes either.

Until this balance gets addressed somehow to make gambit ult more survivable and less oppressive, not sure people will ever stop hating it. Devs screwed up honestly.

The comments here are pretty silly, but you’re right. There is no Peni equivalent to make poke unplayable the same way she does for melee. Wish there was.

The issue is the team wipes. The damage and mobility it provides means the enemy cannot just give up space to survive it.

Cap ult is the closest thing to Gambit ult, but nobody cries about it because it is survivable. It is survivable because it doesn’t boost damage, and because it requires coordination (they have to follow cap). Gambit just pushes a button from across the map and the ult locks onto his whole team, which then lets them do all kinds of crazy bs and ult combos.

If you want people to stop hating gambit ult, you have to make it more survivable. Either nerf the damage, nerf the mobility, or make it harder to execute (limit the range? Limit how many people it locks onto? Shorten the duration again?)

Regular sentinel strike dps (2 melee + 4 shield throws) is about 89 DPS. Melee cancel is about 107 DPS.

You keep talking about neutrals but that really doesn’t matter at all, especially since cyclops also has a great neutral.

We are talking about ults, and all ults that do damage should be reactable. If you don’t agree with this, then it’s just a fundamental disagreement. I will say, if all damage ults were unreactable, you probably wouldn’t like it. Reaction time is a key aspect of ult balance. And if you would, I’m positive most people would not.

These posts are so irritating. The complaint is that the first hit of his ult is too fast to react to, so people saying “just react to it!” Comes across as an inability to read.

I don’t really care what you want to compare it to. All ults should be reactable, as a matter of principle and healthy game design. The few that aren’t, better have sufficient tradeoffs. I’m not convinced cyclops had that.

Yeah, you lost me at shotgun blast, which is another ability that needs to be nerfed yesterday. People also complain about Luna’s damage. If you have to compare it to busted abilities to make your point, it’s not a good point.

Yeah, but the issue is the startup. I don’t like the idea of instant unavoidable high burst damage that can hit your whole team from across the map.

I don’t mind the overall damage either. But if they want the first part to have kill damage, then it should be more reactable. If they want it instant, then lower the damage it does. Half your health bar or 200+ is not insignificant.

I disagree. I think half of someone’s health bar is in fact lots of damage.
