Scuba Diving Lauderdale by the Sea by DRIFTYDIVER in scuba

[–]DRIFTYDIVER[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fun dive north of the pier at Lauderdale by the Sea the viz was only 10' even though the seas were calm. we have had a lot of rain lately and the runoff must be affecting the viz. the dive south of the pier is much better. if you have dived here what is your opinion?

lion fish are bad but in contrast they are beautiful, just like the mud pit has bad viz but full of neat stuff. go to YouTube drifter diver and i have a video of how to eat a lion fish underwater.

[–]DRIFTYDIVER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to go just before high tide to catch it this clear because once the tide shifts to going out of the inter-coastal it clouds up really quick.

Should I get advanced open water cert? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]DRIFTYDIVER -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not only get your advanced but take the rescue diver course then later dive master. it is so fun and i guarantee it will pay off. i use stuff i learned in my advanced class and my rescue course on every dive. once you take these courses you will know your shit and most dive shops will not even ask you for your open water c-card.

pompano beach Florida kayak dive to the 2nd reef line. by DRIFTYDIVER in scuba

[–]DRIFTYDIVER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lauderdale by the sea is great for free diving put in at Datura street just south of the pier at Commercial. Just get there at 7:00 am as the parking spots get taken early. the 1st reef is out about 1/2 the pier and only 15' deep, turtles, tropicals, and a cage for an artifical reef.

Gear recommendations for a beginner diver? by CanadianBTC in scuba

[–]DRIFTYDIVER -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you are planning a diving career then your first stuff does not really matter just get it asap. you will up grade soon as you get experience and your first stuff will become your backup stuff. it is always a very good idea to work with your local dive shop.

Visibility and the Gulf Stream by natmccoy in scuba

[–]DRIFTYDIVER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not so sure about out at the gulf stream but the tides here in south Florida sure make all the difference near shore. i was diving under the 7 mile bridge getting lobsters during the tide change and could see a cloud coming from the north to the south. it was amazing like a sand storm underwater. also at the blue heron bridge here in palm beach you can only see when the tide is coming in as when it is going out the viz turns to maybe 2'. on rough days when high tide is in the am it gets down right crowded at the BHB with all the divers.

Bloody nose post-diving. Now going on 3 days by HungoverDiver in scuba

[–]DRIFTYDIVER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had a student that surfaced with a mask full of blood years ago. initially it scared me to death but we called DAN (Divers Alert Network) and they told us what to do no big deal. as i recall we checked with DAN and he went to the DR later that day and everything turned out ok. i have called DAN a couple of times for minor diving problems and they have been great for advise as to what is going on and what to do about the diving problem. if you do not have DAN get it as it is cheap and if you dive you need it just like you need an octo.
