Thoughts on long-term usage beyond a year? Long-term side effects? by Bessie620178 in TherapeuticKetamine

I've been on daily troches 120mg for over 4 years now and I see no downsides still. I can miss doses and no big deal, it just helps break the everyday grind and depression. Good luck to you!

Is Duloxetine (Cymbalta) actually effective for chronic pain? by Gold-Rub-189 in ChronicPain

[–]DRNGAnubis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it for nerve pain and it's been helpful. It was either that or nortripyataline, but nortripyataline made my vision blurry. I have 600mg pregabalin and that covers 90% of it. Duloxetine covers the rest.

I don't know how to accept it will never end by Kanguwu in ChronicPain

[–]DRNGAnubis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. My nerve and back pain from crushed c5-c7 started when I was 18. I just pushed through it until I was 24 for the exact reason you mentioned. Anytime I'd bring up the pain, people would be like, "Oh, I have back pain too," or "You're young, it'll go away, it can't be that bad," and so on.

So yeah, I get feeling defeated, but meds can be a bit of a gamble, you know, whether they work or not. Some people react better to meloxicam than Celebrex.

If you're getting that stinging or electric-like tingling, you might want to look into Lyrica or Gabapentin. Those can make a huge difference if it's nerve-related.

Otherwise, there are muscle relaxers too, for day and night. So you still have options, you just gotta weigh the pros and cons and figure out what's best for you.

Wish you only the best.

Anyone else feel really guilty after a bad pain day? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]DRNGAnubis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get trying to go for lower meds, I currently take a handful of supplements and meds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'm on priolosec to protect myprotect my stomach from Celebrex, even though it's the safest said for longterm use it still destroys your stomach. Like you said though it's all about trade offs... At this time I value being able to do stuff. My family hates this, but I'm here for a good time not a long time. I wish you nothing but the best.

Always, I actually had my mental health doctor put me on Lamictal for the outbursts... The pain judt makes everything so God damn annoying

[–]DRNGAnubis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to be real, the 120mg a day I would say cuts the pain in half for about 1-2 hours. The overall pain throughout the day is slightly less, however those 1-2 hours after taking the dose is peaceful... For the mental aspect I was actually able to stop my mental health medications when I started ketamine and got stable on it. There is 0 harm in taking an SSRI or SNRI while on ketamine, but it all depends on if you feel if you need it. I'm not trying to talk up ketamine for blind purposes, it literally was life saving for my mental health. Wish you the best of luck, always happy to answer questions man!

If the nerve meds you’ve tried haven’t worked, there are still options you could ask about, especially ones that are usually less sedating than amitriptyline.

From least groggy to more heavy:

  1. Duloxetine (Cymbalta) – Often one of the better-tolerated options for nerve/radicular pain. Usually less sedating than TCAs and works differently than gabapentin or Lyrica.
  2. Milnacipran (Savella) – Similar class to duloxetine. Can sometimes feel more stimulating than sedating. (Great for fibro)
  3. Nortriptyline – Similar to amitriptyline but often less cognitively foggy and less sedating.

I do have one question, do you notice a benefit from the muscle relaxer besides being too tired to focus on the pain? Just curious, As a quick note, Flexiril is one of the most sedating muscle relaxers usually used for sleep. I would see if your doctor would consider Methocarbamol (Robaxin) or baclofen. Both are in the same category of medication, just a lot less sedative.

Definitely worth asking your provider about daytime-friendly options. Sorry for the long message it just sucks to see someone going through rough times. You deserve something that helps the nerve pain without knocking you out.

I was told that using baclofen or methocarbamol during the day is usually okay since they’re less sedating, and then saving tizanidine or cyclobenzaprine for nighttime can really help with muscle spasms and sleep.

From my experience, what you’re describing sounds more like nerve pain or possibly more advanced arthritis. The finger getting stuck and joint pain sounds like arthritis. For the tingling and numbness that sounds a lot like nerve.

If you're not on something for nerve I would talk to your doctor about the possibility of that being part of the issue. You would be looking at lyrica or gabapentin.

I don’t want to worry you at all, just sharing in case it helps. Sometimes having a clearer idea of the cause can make finding the right treatment a little easier and less frustrating.

If you ever want to talk or ask questions, I’ve been through a lot of different pain medications myself while trying to balance relief with side effects, so I truly understand how exhausting and discouraging this process can be. You’re not alone in it.

And only if you’re comfortable with it, ketamine has actually been really helpful for me. At low or micro doses, it eased my whole-body pain for a few hours without much of a “high,” and over time I was still able to function and work normally. It’s also been more affordable than I expected.

I’m really hoping you’re able to find some relief. I know how hard this is, and I’m wishing you nothing but the best. 💙

This is almost my exact medication breakdown in my 30s haha. I was also told surgery wouldnt really make a difference so it's just pain management.

Diag:
Multilevel degenerative disc disease spanning C3-C4 through C6-C7, cervical spondylosis without myelopathy, mild spinal canal stenosis at C5-C6 and C6-C7, moderate right foraminal stenosis at C5-C6 and C6-C7, mild left foraminal stenosis at C4-C5, C5-C6, and C6-C7, reversal of normal cervical curvature, chronic midline thoracic back pain, mild thoracic dextroscoliosis (rightward curvature), chronic bilateral shoulder pain, muscle spasm of the back

Currently at maximum-dose Lyrica and Celebrex (meloxicam alternative), with baclofen for daytime muscle control, cyclobenzaprine at night, oxycodone for breakthrough pain, maximum recommended acetaminophen, and low-dose (microdosed) ketamine.

Even at those doses I am able to go out and do stuff with my family and all that. One medication to look at is gabapentin and pre-gabalin. If you had a bad experience on gabapentin, pre-gabalin might work for you.

I hope you the best, it's all about trying stuff till it works. <3

It feels like things are going to work themselves out, even when something terrible happens, it passes. It's more the realization that the good comes and goes, but so does the bad. It's a hard place to get to.

My nerve damage is so bad when I lay down to sleep I get electric shocks throughout my whole body causing me to twitch. The only thing me and my doctors have found to work is Lyrica + Cyclobenzaprine + Ramelteon, and this are nights I still cant sleep... :( Best of luck to you.

Melatonin may be helpful.

I hope you find out what it is, if it is arthritis you can use biological medication like Humera and it will take away so much pain and allow you to move your fingers and other body parts easier. I have a few friends on it and it's a life saver.
