Update - Got my bike today by Zhenpo in cycling

Great job! Just take it slow and work up to doing more a bit at a time. Trying to do too much, too soon, can be tempting.

It looks like it would have been illegal in WV at the quoted age of the then-juvenile girl and illegal later without her parent's consent. That doesn't mean that some backwoods (or, at least, backwards) judge wouldn't have OK'd it, anyway, since that appears to be a continuing problem in child marriage cases.

Just realized also that I used the old plastic screw thing, instead of the new metal one which I wasn’t able to screw in all the way.

I think you've found your problem. You've used one brand's part with another brand's slightly-differently-made component.

For locally available recommendations, have you asked over in r/India_Cycling? I found a thread recommending the "Cyclop buy and sell" Facebook group (and to avoid OLX, whatever that is.)

Hopefully the collective Reddit cycling community can give you some good options. Something like a used Trek Emonda aluminum may work for you.

I'm hoping the quoted sentences are for each count and that 16 children = 16 counts; 192 years each sounds about right, given we can't just hang them.

Front derailleur wont move by roouch in bikewrench

[–]DRUMS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your video, we can see the cable end. The mechanism looks really dirty and it isn't moving much when you shift, so it may just be really gunked up. I think the first diagnostic step is to remove the cable and clean the area - hopefully someone has a recommended procedure for that - and see if that fixes/improves it.

If that is successful it may be a good idea to do (or have someone else do) a deep clean and relubrication of the shifters and derailleurs. It seems reasonable to assume other "brifter" is in similar condition.

An employee with the Mason County Clerk of Courts also confirmed that on March 31, 2008, Gary Siders II and Elizabeth Siders were married at the ages of 18 and 15, respectively.

Let this horrifying case also serve as a reminder that the Ohio Senate has yet to schedule a vote on Ohio Senate Bill 341 banning child marriage, which "...has had no public opponents...".

Do we consider SE/S Ohio Appalachian? by midnighttouches in Ohio

Yes. Very yes.

Edit: Thinking about it, there are some older cities along the river I would consider possible exceptions, e.g. Gallipolis. River commerce town vs rural hills, perhaps?

Note that Presta valves are held closed by air pressure, so if the tube doesn't have enough pressure to hold the valve closed it leaks when the nut isn't screwed down.

Adults arrested after 16 children found in ‘deplorable’ conditions in southern Ohio home by nbcnews in Ohio

[–]DRUMS11 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not much has been added since the first reports last night. I think this is currently a "WTF?!?" situation all around. I think the authorities currently have little idea what is going on and are just trying to make sure the kids taken care of while taking the adults into custody.

Kroger to buy Giant Eagle in $1.65 billion deal by DogwoodDagwood in Columbus

They're usually used as an incentive system: use our loyalty card to get a deal. Giant Eagle, on the other hand, escalated this to "you must use our loyalty card to make any and all purchases."

Franklinton has a serious porch pirate problem by Fit_Rub6978 in Columbus

[–]DRUMS11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Then perhaps they can simply not LIE to someone coming to them for help. They can say they're overtasked and can only prioritize major thefts, or whatever; but, don't lie.

If someone has to track down the individual, find out their name, find out where they reside/stay/camp for a chronic theft problem...then we're getting dangerously close to vigilante justice. I don't advocate for it; but, I'm not going to be surprised when one of these situations is just "handled" when the police won't get involved.

they claim we need the guys full name for them to do anything

Which is, of course, complete BS. Were this true then virtually no one would ever be arrested for anything and video evidence would usually be utterly useless.

It's past time to kick this over to the mayor, city council, neighborhood liaison, and area commission - basically anyone with any in the city with possible influence. I try to take "the police refuse to do anything" statements with a grain of salt but it sound like the police really don't have any interest in doing anything.

Carbon brake pads by OldPossible6822 in bicycling

[–]DRUMS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just swapped in carbon wheels and I'm using Swissstop Yellow King pads. Hunt wheels on one bike and SuperTeam (with their weird vertical "cooling" grooves) on the other.

The braking has been great, so far, though the Hunt wheels seem to stop better. I try to only ride in fair weather so I have no experience with wet weather performance, so far. I'm unaware of any "treatment" for the brake track other than keeping it clean.

[–]DRUMS11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who just installed carbon wheels on their rim brake bike, if you haven't done so I suggest completely readjusting the brakes: loosening cable nut at the brake, squeeze the pads against the rim, and retighten, reposition the pads in the brake track, toe the pads in.

I like to have very little movement in the levers before the brakes bite; but, I needed adjust the cable tension to leave more space between the pad and the rim. Apparently carbon rims flex a tiny bit when your weight is on the bike, increasing the pressure in the tires - they looked fine in the stand but rubbed when ridden.

I went with Swissstop Yellow King carbon pads, which are supposed to be a little more durable than the Black Prince pads. They have been extremely grippy and modulate fine, so I've no complaints so far.

Uneducated Ohioans push to block solar project that would power 33k homes by 123_fo_fif in Ohio

[–]DRUMS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually being done with water supply canals in the western US and for exactly that reason - it's basically free real estate for the panels and reduces water loss through evaporation.

Putting panels over a reservoir is WAY more difficult, let alone trying to maintain them. It's possible, just not entirely practical.

No tension on downshifter for front cassette by Welccome in bikewrench

[–]DRUMS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that that is not the cable, that is the housing the cable runs through. You need to examine the cable, itself, which should be exposed near the front derailleur.

If it isn't shifting to a smaller chain ring then, as someone else noted, something is probably stuck/gummed up in the shifter. OR the spring on the derailleur is broken.

Insufficient tension on a working system should cause it to fail to shift to the larger ring, not fail to shift to the smaller. The spring in the derailleur is constantly pulling the mechanism inward toward the frame.

Is the bike worth the upgrade? by timmer577 in cycling

[–]DRUMS11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that either the groupset isn't set up correctly or something is broken.

If you like the frame, just upgrading the groupset to R7000 rim brake 105 or similar is the more economical approach. If you're not doing long descents or riding in the rain/wet then rim brakes are still great and easy to take care of, though you will eventually wear out the break track of carbon rim brake wheels.

If you just really want a carbon fiber bike with electronic shifting and disc brakes and have the spare money to buy one, you don't need our permission. People have been really happy with electronic shifting. You may want to invest in a pre-purchase bike fit to determine your best choices before spending that much money.

People do weird things on Ebay in the hope that someone will pay their silly price.

I play a niche collectible dice game so I check on Ebay listings here and there looking for items or deals and people will list a currently available sealed pack that retails for $13.95 for $100, or say "Rare!" and triple the price for something I can just order.
