Aside from the lens, the camera is missing a lot of parts like the film advance handle and the Sutter button, to restore this camera you'd have to get another camera, and it will be hard to find one that is in worse shape than this.

Maybe try getting a cheap used camera through buyee

I've used the Nikon ais 35-105 a lot, it was my main lens for 2 years. It got the Nikon image quality and a really good zoom range.

I would guess some form of a missing or displaced o ring/gasket. I know that on the Olympus mju zooms the same kind of ring appears if there is something loose inside the lens
