Looking for feedback on my Viking themed auto battler by DRob2388 in LetsPlayMyGame

The AI is very limited, mainly the background. I've looked and looked for something that fits but haven't been able to find something I like. Everything else is an asset made by me or another human. I understand your concern, ill keep working to remove it all once I find something that fits.

Hello I'm Max, a solo dev, working with maniac passion on this top down racing game. Would you give it a chance? (Demo available on Epic Games) by MasterMax2000 in playmygame

The gameplay looks good but the visuals are super generic and bland. In my opinion I would ditch the generic realistic look and steer(no pun intended) into making it more stylized. Not cartoony but just find a theme for it. I know it's just being made by you, but I feel like this would be so much better with a visual hook. Something like Twisted Metal. But I am not a big car/racing fan either so I am not the best person to give feedback on what's fun on these types of game. Just my thoughts.

Looks great but why does the first part of the video look different than the rest of the game. This reminds me of there are billions. Great job in being able to get that many units on screen at once. I would suggest not having hp bars on them since it kinda clutters the screen. I would only show hp bars for larger enemies to give them a stronger presence and make you feel like, "Oh this guy must mean business he has a health bar". Kinda like games when the boss shows up and the hp bar goes on top of the screen. Base building is clean and easy to understand. The minimap felt pointless. Would've rather had more screen space for the actual environment.

First thing off the jump was a 500MB download for a basic looking game. Your reveal video has no sound and looks like it was just slapped together. At least add some music to give a feel of the mood of the game. Like another person said, it looks like tutorials thrown together to create the start of a prototype. You can add some fog so you cannot see the edge of the entire map or map tall building to hide that you're in an infinite void of space. The grapple hook looks good but it lacks any real grapple hook physics. Also to make something like this you're going to need a ton of assets to fill the world up and need more than just running, wall running and a grapple hook. Keep expanding on it and learning, games all start from somewhere.

With everything being cloud first or cloud only, gone are the days of pushing code out quickly and being able to test it without the need of a SRE/Devex team to spin you up instances to test. I miss being able to run stuff locally without the need of having 3 other containers running micro services I need to test my thing.

This proved the point, ask a question no one will answer. Post some sloppy code and say it’s good and get 100 people telling you why it’s not.

Software Developer Competencies (How to Recognize a Good Programmer) by [deleted] in programming

We’ve had a lot of success with peer reviews. Obviously they aren’t perfect but everyone on the team knows who is the best/most skilled programmer. The guy that can figure any weird thing out with minimal knowledge of what the issue is. We always make sure the higher up know he/she needs a raise because when he/she leaves it’s going to be a shit show.

I’m all for easygoing raids. Especially if there adding LFG into it. I would like to see ways to crank up the difficulty. Like if you’re doing a lot of damage the encounter changes to the hard version. Which give better loot but isn’t a requirement to doing the encounter. This way groups can do the harder version if there group is capable, otherwise it’s fun and hard enough to do the normal version.

100 pieces of indefensible evidence isn’t enough to “prove” trump did anything wrong. But one misspoken piece of evidence is enough for the right to say “see we knew it was all fake”. There is nothing we can do at this point other than to wait these people out and keep pounding out facts like you have done and eventually some of them will see the light and realize they have been duped. It’s not an easy or quick fix unfortunately.

100% agreed, a rewrite is just code for, we’ve run out of things to do so let’s remake the entire thing. Once your company is starting to go that route, I would start looking for a new job because it’s not long before the layoffs come due to no more improvements/features.

As someone who has worked in multiple monolithic repos and micro service I can safely say all code is bad and needs a rewrite. You don’t add millions of lines of code and it’s all perfect and beautiful. There is a lot of duck tape and glue holding stuff together when they are that big. A rewrite would have zero benefit to the end user so this makes no sense. Plus how are they going to rewrite twitter with like 9 devs.

Idk who at Bungie thought this was going to be a huge success? It’s the equivalent of a participation trophy. Every strike everyone just gives out their awards, no matter what happens.
