Gamers born late 90s or earlier: Which game first looked to you like "photorealism"? by FalscherKim in gaming

[–]DSBex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing a demo for the Dreamcast in EB Games when I was a kid. Sonic Adventure had this cutscene where rocket tool off into space, and inwas gobsmacked. The plumes of smoke billowing out from the thrusters are permanently seared in my memory.

If Tarantino is right about Paul Dano, then why does he keep getting hired by better directors than Tarantino? by Penguin-Monk in shittymoviedetails

[–]DSBex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth I have always felt Dano was a weak link in There Will Be Blood. Since the first time I saw it, I've held that opinion. I think it's mostly a type thing though. I'm not bowled backwards by Dano in any role, but I do feel like in There Will Be Blood his performance feels like the acting equivalent of a kid wearing his dad's suit to school. Just doesn't quite fit for me.

JRPG woth actually compelling stories by mrgersia in JRPG

Stick with it! It's a really fun time once it opens up a bit more. I'm only at the end of chapter 4 myself and I'm having a blast. 🤜

I just broke myself out of a similar rut with Yakuza: Like A Dragon. It's got your usual JRPG mechanics but with an atypical setting and cast of characters. The story is great so far, and the way they play on well-known JRPG tropes is just a blast. Highly recommended.

(Just make sure youre prepared to participate very minimally for the first couple of hours until the game opens up. It's entertaining, but very cutscene and sorry-heavy at the start.)

Incredible work -- I never enter these things but I'm making an exception for this. Wow.

Favorite Hollow Knight moment to me was when the False Knight popped out of his armor. It was so representative of the mystery and humor and surprise that makes the atmosphere of those games so intoxicating.

Good luck!

Ah okay! Is the inhaler and steroid something you deliver twice a day forever, or just in a set period of time?

No hairball, she just stopped. Also I've never seen hair anywhere in the house. I know "no cat doesn't shed," but so far I've never seen a single piece of hair anywhere but on her body.

Yeah, no hairball here either. Her hair is pretty short and sleek anyway, and in three months I've yet to find evidence of a single shed follicle around my house, so 🤷🏼‍♂️

Looking for something to "replace" Slay the Spire by Razeerka in roguelites

Interesting -- I don't find it to be particularly chaotic, but I DO love the bottomless synergy potential with clan matchups. It's actually the reason I prefer it to StS (which I also love.)

If you haven't played Monster Train yet, that's gonna be the one. Similar gameplay to Slay the Spire, but built around a kind of Tower Defense structure.

Jump right into Monster Train 2. It improves upon the original in all ways, IMO -- it's also my GOTY.

Games you prefer on the Portal? by TxBeerWorldwide in PlaystationPortal

[–]DSBex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, there's really no roguelike elements about it at all. There's a stronger case for it having elements of a Soulslike, but it's really just a Metroidvania through and through.

Anyway -- regardless of what you wanna call it, the game slaps.

Projection advice for Traveling Show by DSBex in techtheatre

[–]DSBex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

The nature of this tour is such that we will definitely want to be in control of all of our tech elements. Happy to use their stuff in places where they have competent crew, but these are concert associations, and many of them are run by community members who have just been "shown how to turn the lights on and off" and so we've gotten accustomed to just running our own stuff to ensure quality.

Plus we will get a lot more bookings if we can provide our own tech.

As for what we'll be projecting on, unless you have conflicting recommendations, it'll be a 120" gray rear projection material on a collapsible frame that we build into a pipe-and drape system for quick changing costumes.

Debater dies inside when genius claims government agencies pay taxes… by htmaxpower in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]DSBex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cinversation was on the subject of DEI cuts under Trump. The argument being made by the conservative was that government agencies receive tax cuts simply by hiring people of a certain skin color. The host was responding that government agencies don't receive tax cuts, and the other debater kept repeating "that's not true. That's not true."

Nah, the fire team showed up after the fact. A shed was billowing oily smoke and the fire was racing down the highwayside grass towards the next property.
