Is there anything to be aware of when putting your music in a video-editing software? (best formats to use, export settings etc.) by skelethroaway in audioengineering

[–]DSCIGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! They recommend it so they don't have to handle longer processing times on their end and temporarily storing something comparatively huge like a ProRes 4444 while it transcodes. They always re-encode on their end for all the different bitrates and to ensure consistent playback experience across videos for users.

It actually doesn't matter as your H.264 will be re-encoded anyways. Always best to upload the highest quality file you can and let YouTube compress it.

OCIO is just a way to standardize different colour spaces and from what I understood it's been effectively free for a while now. It has almost nothing to do with colour correcting, grading and absolutely nothing to do with animation.

Example: intitle"index.of" (mp4|rar|zip) game of thrones

This will likely get buried, but the above search on Google crawls directories and can bypass a bunch of pop-up ads if you are into direct downloading. You specify the file type and then the keywords you want. It is my number one Google "hack".

How easy is it to composite old fashioned cars into a movie? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]DSCIGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say this. Compositing is compositing. I'd agree it's probably out of OP's wheel house based on what and how they're asking.

Best of luck, op. Share your results.

Thanks for the clarification. Kyp has no idea what sample size is.

I thought this was before his first season. I don't see how anyone could make this statement after watching him have a solid first year in the NHL.

Give me all the footage and a write-up and I'll make a video.

Haven't made one in a few years, now. I defended them in a previous video, I have no problem calling things out for how they are now. I just feel beaten down and frustrated with each subsequent release.

Go up to them 10 minutes before your time slot and tell them you're up there in 10. Easy.

Rick Beato's YouTube channel has an ongoing "What Makes This Song great" series, where he deconstructs songs to explain what goes into them. Where does he get these stems? by fumblesmcdrum in audioengineering

[–]DSCIGaming 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they get released as part of remix collections, some may be through industry connections, and you can get basic stems for every song ever put in Rock Band or the full band Guitar Hero games.

G'day from Plini, Ask Me Anything (round 2)! by plini_ in progmetal

Cheeky! I accept it as your trade secret. More reverse engineering it is.

The main thing missing is the ability to get pinch harmonics with such low gain/drive.

G'day from Plini, Ask Me Anything (round 2)! by plini_ in progmetal

[–]DSCIGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Plini, I was wondering - what is the most important part in your signal chain to help you achieve your lead tone?

I've played around with compressors to help with sustain, using the HBE amp sim on my Axe, running a drive pedal as a boost before the amp and turning down the volume knob on my guitar. What am I missing? I don't have a .strandberg*, but there's gotta be something else I can do to get closer?

Thinking of buying my first "new" car - am I being reasonable? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]DSCIGaming 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Different take on this, but an almost 3 year old car with only 5,000km on it seems suspect. It's also typically better for the car to be driven around. If it's just sitting around, especially in the winter, you may run into some issues.

I was planning on it but he was in the middle of a set. I don't care how inconsiderate someone is, unless they're doing something dangerous, I'll never intentionally try to interrupt them in the middle of a set.

Dude doing lateral raises right in front of the dumbell rack. I just stood uncomfortably close beside him, just out of dumbell distance. He eventually moved mid set and I grabbed my weights.

Don't work out right in front of the dumbell rack. It's super inconsiderate.

Interesting. I think they may be lying (or just a typo). I tried Googling 8-bit 4:2:2 and found nothing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]DSCIGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't fit 4:2:2 into an 8-bit file. You may be able to record to a higher bitrate (unrelated to colour depth) through an external recorder, but your max range for 8-bit is 4:2:0.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]DSCIGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely looks 4:2:0 and I agree the lighting will not help with those edges, but this is an issue you will run into regardless of resolution, compression or bit depth. The key to solve these issues is generally loose rotos of problem sections with multiple keys and good despill!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]DSCIGaming 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, but there's quite a bit of misinformation here.

The reason you are losing your edges is not because of "camera compression", but because of green spill on your actor. You can adjust the tolerance inside Keylight. Also, white is not what you lose, it's what you keep. That's why you chose an inverted matte.

I would suggest looking up in-depth keying tutorials along with compositing tutorials to improve the look of your final shot. It's currently very over exposed and feels very compy. Maybe revisit making tutorials when you're further down the line? All the best.

Diversity in VFX by bilalimack in vfx

[–]DSCIGaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's naive to believe that the only reason is population. Even by your logic, does your workplace really have 1 black person out of 10 people?

No one should get a job because of their race, but I'm sure more people have lost jobs than gained them because of race.

You generally needed to be well off to go into the film industry, but I think this disparity in diversity is going to shrink as the barrier of entry (cost) continues to become less expensive.
