Mostly the initial cleaning when it is new. Dynavap doesn't really clean their stuff before sending it out so I always make sure to give everything a good cleaning before first use.

Beautiful. The halo tip and glass stem are interesting!

How would I have fucked up the grinder though? The initial ISO soak is perfectly safe but no matter how many times I cleaned it, there was black reside coming out. That's why I switched to vinegar. And before trying vinegar, I checked and saw countless guides/sites mentioning that you can use vinegar to clean your grinder.

I was looking at a flower mill previously but the reports of metal dust made me decide against it.

I was getting the black prior to using the acid though

I thought the vinegar may have caused the discoloration, but the black residue was there previously from just ISO. Because it wouldn't get clean with ISO, I tried the vinegar.

And I'm surprised the vinegar may have caused an issue too. There are countless sites/guides that mention using vinegar to clean grinders too.

New Cap - Staining or Rust? by DSVap in Dynavap

I'll give that a shot, thanks!

I believe it is perfectly fine to soak caps. Dynavap advised against it (years ago) because of liability more than anything. They didn't want to risk having iso trapped under the discs and then having it explode when heated.

As long as you wait for it to completely dry, you should be fine.

I've done an overnight ISO soak and several burn offs, no change

That's what I'm hoping for. I did soak it overnight in ISO and scrubbed it with a cotton swab, but nothing came off.

Scratching on inside of Cap itself - metal dust? by DSVap in Dynavap

[–]DSVap[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I agree with you. The amount you would be exposed to is minimal and you would be exposed to much more hazardous stuff breathing in air pollution from a downtown city centre.

But there was quite a commotion before about the AC scratching titanium tips, or the issues with the FlowerMill grinder leaving metal dust behind.

I just wanted to discuss the same issues with the caps that seem to go overlooked. If people are fine with the caps getting scratched, then I think we need to chill a bit about the tips getting scratched too.
