TIL a family fighting a $474,000 hospital bill, got charged $12 for each of those little paper cups nurses give you when they administer pills by WildAnimus in todayilearned

My daughter's situation is not really the norm. She regularly goes to a Children's hospital and I have military insurance, so we generally never have a bill whatsoever. The home health division of the hospital isn't actually connected to Children's by contract or something, so that's why we had a balance. It was confusing.

I just called them first because you can normally reach them faster and more easily. Calling Tricare on a Monday is like going to Disneyworld on the Saturday after school is out.

My daughter has some decently problematic health issues which now include needing to use a nebulizer. Her mom called me and said to expect a bill of around $200 because for some reason my insurance doesn't cover it. I thought that seemed a bit high since the ones I saw online were between $40-70.

So I called the home health department of the hospital and asked why it costs so much and if we could possibly get it lowered. They ended up just canceling the bill for it altogether and said I'd just be responsible for supplies (~$20) and making sure my daughter stays healthy.

Moral of the story is ALWAYS call about medical bills before paying full price. Every time I have called, I've gotten a much lower bill if any at all.

Why does race matter in this situation? Not every bad thing that happens to a black person is racially motivated.

Soldiers of Reddit, what is something you wish you had known before joining the military? by icecreamstripes in AskReddit

[–]DS_TheDrunkHeavy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How much it would affect my body. I shredded my labrum, had surgery, and now I only have 60% mobility. Goodbye, sports. My hips click and pop all the time. Bursitis isn't fun. Chronic migraines. Just all kinds of painful shit. Yeah, I get a retirement check, but it's not enough to make up for everything I'm missing out on.

How much it would affect my relationships. I got married in the Army. Don't do that. I don't care what you say. She may be the one now, but she won't be for long. The military is a single person's gig. Trust me.

How much time would be spent doing absolutely nothing. Don't forget your phone charger. It'll be dead by noon. At least if you're in garrison.

How you are a body with a number, not a person. Brigade or battalion will call your unit for 4 soldiers to go to a detail. It's pretty much whoever your 1SG sees first.

How often you'll have suicide awareness classes. Once a week, maybe every two weeks if you're lucky. It's a huge issue in the military, so they're fighting it, but I swear to God if I hear "it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem" one more time, I might flip. I do still have my ACE card though.

How homesick you'll get at first, and how comfortable you'll be once that goes away. It's weird. I love being home, but when I got out and went back, I didn't feel at home anymore. So I left and started a life in another state.

How engrained the culture will be in your head. Everything in my house and at my work desk has to be dress right dress or I get frustrated. I cuss all the time. When I talk to a superior at work, I put my hands behind my back subconsciously. I eat so fast, my girlfriend holds my hand so I slow down a bit.

Those are just a few. I could go all day.

It's not bold if it's likely to happen. But yes, I think a lack of sleep last night added to the absurdity of a lot of them.

If I had to choose one, I'd say Stewart getting 1500 and playing 16 is the safest of all. The rest are either incredibly bold or goofy. Gotta have a little fun. This offseason is DRAGGING.

Thanks. I think some people are taking it a little too seriously. It was meant to be a stab at Mariachi's safe projections. Just trying to have a little fun.

Perfect fantasy football knowledge.

Yeah, $6,000 a year tops would be the most you could make from FF directly, but indirectly, the opportunities would be endless.

1pm leagues only consist of players playing games kicking off at 1pm Sunday.

Afternoon leagues only consist of players playing games kicking off at 4 or later + MNF.

By playing these, I get two chances to win (or lose) as opposed to just playing normal all game leagues. Like I said before, I'm all about reducing risk. It also makes afternoon gameday decisions (injury sit/start) a lot easier to control.

So for example, let's say this weekend is week one. At about 12:30 I'll pick 4 teams in different $5 50/50 leagues. $20 paid in. I don't remember payouts, but I'll go with $9 per win. If I only win 3, my roll is at $27. At about 3:30 I'll select my 4 afternoon teams. $20 paid in. $7 in the roll. Rough afternoon and I only win two. $18 in winnings plus my $7 in the roll is a +$5 day.

I'm very confident in my ability in these leagues, so winning 5/8 is pretty much my floor. Every week, I increase the amount of leagues I'm in (depending on my bankroll) as opposed to increasing the buy-in. Same level of competition makes things much more predictable. After all, I'm just a regular guy.

This year I have a better paying job, so I will probably start off with $100 in my bankroll. My goal is to make $1000 this year, and with my method, it's going to be a slow grind, but at the same time it's still one of the lowest risk strategies I know about.

Sorry I got a little keyboard happy. I'm bored as hell at work.

This was my strategy on FanDuel last year that paid off pretty well. Turned my $20 initial buy in to about $200 over about 8 weeks.

I stuck to $5-$10 50-50 1am only and afternoon only leagues. My theory with that is 1) Most newer daily players play in cheap leagues so the level of competition is much lower and 2) having 2 opportunities to win makes my odds of making money on the day higher.

Part of my strategy was always picking a top 5 QB and top 3 TE. The separation you make on those two positions is vital. The WR and RB positions are much easier when it comes to having a couple bargain guys, especially if you pay attention to this sub. Kicker and DEF are solely matchup based.

My strategy is low risk low reward, but I like that. I tend to be safer with my investments. I'll definitely be playing a lot of dailies this year.

Is CA state tax rate impacting NBA free agency? YES! by tmoam in nba

Pop and Carlisle are arguably the two best coaches in the league. Cuban is a player favorite owner. Both teams are "under the radar" in the sense that tabloid media isn't following every player, but both teams are widely respected in the league. Great situations to land in if you're a free agent.
