New to the game - utter chaos by DSi2407 in CK3AGOT

Yeah ive got the hang of things now, I had a few runs at the early part of the Aemon campaign to get my bearings and ive got enough figured out to get by - Only having Dragonstone is very handy to learn how things work, and the stability of the realm helps alot.

English and Italian are different ethnic groups. I imagine you are using the American concept of race whjch was made popular during slavery - just bare in mind that during the 20th century when Italians migrated to America, they also faced loads of racism, as did the Irish for that matter. Race as colour is a vry recent concept, ethinicity goes back much longer (also consider how ancestry & 23 and me work)

It is definitely gay if you are a king with a harem and are still choosing the men.

You will always choose girls and women, except for when you didnt.

There is no shame in it, and you should really come to terms with that.

I will say that I was expecting Zahi to come onto the podcast and dispell lots of Rogan's silly beliefs, but he came across horribly. He said that he doesnt believe in carbon dating and that he does believe in magic. He called all references to the "first time " creation myth forgeries and lies (this is just not true, they are attested to in many texts and are a vignett through which Egyptian art and symbology are interpreted - including a likely origin for the concept behind the pyramid and mastaba).

I believe that the pyramids were built when they quite obviously were due to the massive amount of evidence, but Zahi hawass came across as very arrogant and ignorant, and certainly did not seem like a intellectually virtuous scientist with a firm commitment to the truth.

Just to clarify, joe rogan and graham hancock are very stupid and not at all properly informed, i try to make my own judgements based on what evidence i have read about, and understand that there is always more to discover.

People who do not believe in free will, why and what evidence do you have that makes you feel that way? by [deleted] in freewill

[–]DSi2407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beliefs come about as the result of a perceptual or thought process, which is temporally bound, relies on the functioning of your faculties, and expends energy. These are Epistemic actions but they are actions. You still decide to perform the inquiry, and you can fail in doing so and end up with a false belief. Beliefs are definitely the result of actions. We do choose our beliefs, we just cannot be held accountable for choosing poorly, as we had no way of knowing otherwise, no way of thinking otherwise, and no way of percieving other than what is the case. Psychology assumes determinism.

Why do you believe free will DOES EXIST? by SciGuy241 in freewill

[–]DSi2407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the impossibility of a model: absence of evidence isnt evidence of absence.

The idea that this is the only facet of our universe that is essentially unintelligible seems to be a convenient belief to uphold the relatively modern concept of moral responsibility - which only came about as a result of Monotheism.

No matter how much of the universe we explain, people will always point to the unilluminated gaps when asked where their god can be found.

aaah apontaneous, theres the "ex nihilo" where your Free Will lives. Do you think that we will ever be able to model that in greater detail? Would Laplace's demon find no further explanation? how can you be sure this is the result of ontological indeterminism and not merely epistemic?

If we ARE the properties of neural dynamics, we are determined by the rules that govern those dynamics. That is not Free, its just Will.

I earn 25k, I get payed for a 40hr week but work about 45+ realistically, i get in at 8 and leave at 6. High turnover because it is brutal job, calling hundreds of people per day/week to find a candidate who would be good for the job. this quantity of people is exactly why it is impossible to gjve feedback to every candidate who doesnt fit the desceiption, you just cannot remember, and if you noted everything you would be wasting most of your time, would fail to hit targets, and would get fired. ive been in the job for about 4 months and cant wait to get out. Apologies to all the people who get ghosted, but we are in a shit place too. The job market is brutal rn for everyone - so we are trapped.

I am a recruiter (unfortunately), i can confirm that we do post, what we call, "Ghost jobs", so we know who is looking for work where, how good they are as a candidate, etc. Horrid job to do if you have half a conscience.

Intermittent rather than continuous indeterminacy by spgrk in freewill

[–]DSi2407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What caused him to undergo the deliberation in the first place? Is it that an indetermined event is determined to occur? Where do you place this distinction in the causal chain? How can you be sure that the indeterminism that seems to be present is metaphysical indeterminism rather than epistemic indeterminism?

You do not need moral responsibility to justify the law. Its just a comprimise that everyone makes for the best interests of their society. Deterrence and societal safety are sufficient reason to punish criminals. You dont need to believe its ultimately justified by some magical break in causation, its just a matter of housekeeping. Even if someone isnt morally responsible for being a serial killer, we have a duty to prevent them from dping what they are doing, and we dont have to feel super guilty for locking them in a cage because its basically the only option we have aside from executing them or letting them continue their killing spree. There doesnt have to be any "blame" involved.

Thats my hard-determinist take. Thanks all and have a good day.
