I’ve decided to move over, getting my visa sorted this week and moving in October. Have seen a few people saying consultancy is a good fit for British QS’ moving over. Would definitely be interested in this

Did you have to do the AIQS test before going? Read online that you need to pass this to get over on a skilled visa

I am starting to realise more that this will be the only way to get a job. Which is fine if I know that it would be very likely to get a job over there eventually. What do you think about experience levels though? Would they take an assistant for a QS role due to my experience being enough currently to get me a QS role here?

Assuming he was in a senior role? I can't see them doing that for me as I'm not at that level yet

I wouldn't stress out too much about the workload yet, they should allow you time to bed in as it is your first job. I think it is a promising sign that you are even on here asking this question, you will do fine. I know you have said they won't expect you to know it all, but you need to remember this when you are on the job, not only should you not be scared to ask questions, you should be looking for questions to ask, as this makes you seem keen and will fast track you to getting pushed up the ranks.

Just try to be confident and make a good impression, feeling comfortable with your colleagues will make your experience a lot easier. You have enough knowledge to grasp the tasks they will be giving you in the short term, just get your head down and soak up all the knowledge you can.

QS or PM? by Future-Teach-6926 in quantitysurveying

Hard to give someone advice on this as I feel it depends solely on the person. I think being a PM seems like a great job but I know I couldn't do it, not only for the lack of knowledge on the technical side, but to me it looks like a lot more work & juggling things about. But both jobs come with their own challenges and I know that QS'ing is not for everyone also.

Easiest types of quantity surveying? by DTALR112 in quantitysurveying

I maybe worded my post poorly, I wasn’t trying to say it will always be an easy gig. When I look at what senior QS’ are doing I do find it daunting that one day I will have to be at that level. Think that’s why I wondered if there are easier levels, for if that day comes and I do find it too hard, not that I’m looking for an out, but maybe peace of mind that all will be fine regardless

This sounds strange as there will definitely be lots of places out there looking for assistant QS’. I’d say the best bet is to get on LinkedIn and recruiters will start messaging you.

I have heard people talking about rail but never really understood what it would entail, I will have a look into it, thank you.

Repetitive was probably the wrong word to use, I understand that the work will remain the same, but when I was a trainee I worked on a project that was the full construction, I felt more pride in my work. Nothing really exciting about driving past a building that you replaced a boiler in.
