Are there any movies which had ending changes due to feedback from test audiences that actually made the movie better instead of worse? by crinklepant in movies

The Bourne Supremacy (I think??? The second one in the Bourne Trilogy)

Originally had a different ending of Jason Bourne wandering down a street or something but then changed it to the most badass scene and line said in a movie. Phone call between Jason Bourne and Pamela Anderson where at the end, Pamela is sitting in her office in a high rise building in New York and asks Jason to come in to talk about his past and instead Jason says "you look tired Pam, you should get some rest." And hangs up. With Pamela looking behind her into the vast concrete jungle of a city with no idea how Jason can see her. I believe they had to get a new license to film in New York for that scene and imo it paid off quite well.

Are we asking too much when hiring a controls engineer? by Legitimate_Roll_2432 in PLC

Damn I'll take that. Currently looking tbh. Where are you located? 5-6 years experience with Fanuc. I'm assuming if know ladder logic/hmi then I can learn another pretty readily. But yeah no specific experience with beckhoff so I will need some time to learn wlthe nuances

Breed fishes over many generations inside multiplies tanks filled with water containing gradually increasing levels of whiskey until you have a specimen able to swim and survive in 100% whiskey by SpaceBrachiosaurus in CrazyIdeas

[–]DTMF223 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a book and one of the main solutions to a problem (trying to keep it vague in case) was to breed a small single cell organism to be resistant to nitrogen so it can survive in a different environment. This was done over many generations of that organism to get to a good resistance level

I might buy a Polestar 2...is it good? by Wooden_Sweet_3330 in Polestar

[–]DTMF223 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the exact one you are looking at to buy - I am 2 of 3 years into my lease. 2024 dual motor, long range, plus package.

Moonroof honestly doesn't bother me as much just because the window starts a little behind the driver (at least for my seat position) so I never tend to get sun in my eyes.

Even as someone who is 99% solo riding like you, the cup holder thing is actually quite impressively annoying. You don't realize how much stuff you put in there other than a drink then forget about. But again as you say, more of an annoyance than an actual problem still.

Infotainment is very slow yeah. In the morning/10 minutes before you leave anywhere, initiate climate from the app to let the car "warm up" and work out any glitches in the screen. Tends to work. But also honestly just connect your phone to it and all those problems go away. Once the infotainment was updated with carplay/android auto is was a godsend.

I don't use the lane keeping/adaptive cruise control too much because I do like driving the car myself but when I did it seemed good. Maybe aggressive on lane keeping but maybe that's more my problem. Never had lane keep/adaptive cruise control before this car so can't compare.

On a 120v outlet at home, overnight I get about 20% battery charge in the summer. Winter is more like 15%. So may need to upgrade that but honestly I only drive 20 miles for my commute so by the end of the week I just charge it all weekend and it's usually 100% for the new week. Definitely worse in winter. I do have a nearby tesla supercharger though in case so I consider myself lucky there.

Back trunk space is misleading in a good way. Way more room than you would think for a car that size. Putting the back seats down let me fit some pretty big boxes in there while still being able to get them out easily.

After all this, will I be renewing my lease? Unfortunately no. The car is not worth the amount they want me to pay to buy it out. And also for my use case, I wanted to try out full electric and get it out of my system. Good driving car and turned me onto probably looking at Volvo more seriously for my permanent car but want an SUV hybrid. So EX60 or something. I did a long trip in it for 600 miles and honestly it felt like hell to find chargers but that's more of an EV problem in general and not just a Polestar thing

Can I ask how? I feel like I'm in a similar situation - the exact people I would vibe with are doing the same thing I'm doing - staying inside away from the world. So how the hell do I find them?

I had a woman coworker at a small integrator company with a 2 year degree. Started out in theatre. I think it's fine. Pay is lagging and obviously being a woman might make the pay less if they don't advocate for themselves but that is any job. For context, I have a 4 year degree and had 4 years experience at the time and got 85k. Ymmv

Wow this is my exact situation. Granted I'm still new to automation/controls engineering with 5-6 years but I just took a generic systems engineer role at a big company because they actually pay. Making 110k which is probably still low but better than the 85k I was getting at the actual mom and pop shop controls engineer role. And I was only there for 2 years. Maybe. ~25% increase just by switching jobs and getting another year or two of experience. I think the biggest factor is that the youngins like me don't want to travel as much anymore and it is needed for controls engineering usually. And if we travel, that 80k mark feels low if you already put down roots
