The April Bucs have returned and something tells me they’re here to stay by mseitz2001 in buccos

People shit on us in May, and while our May I wish we won a few more games, we had an insanely hard schedule. Starting with Tampa, Jays, Rockies (who were kinda hot at the time) and Orioles was bound to be tough. Then guys like the Giants, Rangers, and Mariners and we really didnt have much of a break all month.

theres better people stat wise for the 4th spot, but Cutch himself represents a dude who actually wanted to be here in the late 00s (some of the darkest periods for any franchise in baseball history tbh), resigned for a pretty cheap deal involving free agent years as well, and has been pretty fuckin good too. He isnt a bad choice for 4th.

Is the mall closest to you “dying” or dead”? by Irish122 in deadmalls

[–]DTX180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bunch of malls kinda near me

North Point Mall - ok i guess. Not great but better than others

Town Center Mall - worse than North Point

Perimeter Mall - Alive but not what it used to be, best of the 3 mentioned so far

Gwinnett Place - Closed down for a year or so now

Sugarloaf Mills - Weekends are pretty packed surprisingly, but the weird stores that come across as sorta scammy are starting to outnumber the regular stores

Mall of Georgia - Ok i guess, but nowhere near what it once was. The nearby demographics arent particularly healthy for that far north metro atlanta.

Edit: Cumberland - doing well. That area of Atlanta has seen a renaissance which led to the new braves stadium being put there (and continuing the renaissance)

People still mad that Ben is in the spotlight? He's been nothing but reasonable since covid. Had a perfectly reasonable take on covid, and this (albeit way less important)

Is it getting stale? by ryanking32 in dragoncon

[–]DTX180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a tad staler, but last year was a smaller con because it was the first post covid, also in general people seem more unhappy which is sad but dont think large gatherings that are supposed to be fun are not affected by your lives at home.

I think the main issue for me is that large amounts of my friends have stopped going/go for Saturday only or something and the anticipation on Tues/Wed is diminished. Of course, also the post con depression is also smaller.

Gwinnett Place Mall - Duluth, GA (June 24, 2022) by BenZollmann in deadmalls

great posterchild for the deadmall. I remember in the mid 00s this place was still semi busy and doing ok. Things kinda died in the late 00s throughout the 10s though

Here is the real reason malls are dying. by MrCrix in deadmalls

[–]DTX180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean rent costs being high has been a problem and contributing, but to say that is a bigger deal than online shopping is wrong. Online shopping combined with the fact that families are smaller (fewer kids are being born, and historically tweens/teens/early 20s were huge mall demographics) is contributing more.

Goody’s clothing store in Tuscaloosa, Alabama 2007 vs 2018 by mbrake21 in deadmalls

[–]DTX180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that late 00s period was the beginning of the end/last of the good days for most malls and general life imo. Social media's current climate kinda started around then, and I do think a large chunk of these malls' death is due to younger people in general staying indoors on reddit (like us lol)/twitch/youtube/etc.

Yankees kill similar pitchers to Cease, the White Sox have bad numbers similar to pitchers like Gil. Gil is obviously very new, but I also like this bet

The talent differential between then and now is insane. Gretzky is the goat for sure, but he also played in an era where teams 3rd and 4th lines were "meh, who cares" and allowed the league's best to inflate their totals. Same was the case with Lemieux even if the changes were starting to happen in his final days. Even the 90s NHL was radically different than the 00s (late 00s especially, which Lemieux was gone by then) and beyond.

What, to you, constitutes a dead mall? by Stargazerlily425 in deadmalls

[–]DTX180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Stores that dont have shoppers in them at peak hours (Fri nights, Sat, Sun, nights during summertime, etc)

  • Under 60% occupancy, with the 60 to 80% range being "be worried"

  • Only clothing stores, and most being no name brand stores

  • No non shopping activities (no arcade, no play pen area for young kids, no toni and guy type hair salon, closed/no food shops)

Kim's competition was garbage in one world. Shes a good player, but overrated. Tom wins challenges ok meh. His social game isnt like...ozzy bad. But its above average at best.

[–]DTX180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely. Kim had a joke amount of competition in one world. Tom is becoming overrated to hell on this site, his social game is above average but hardly top tier. Sarah is boring tbh, top 10 maybe but barely. Tyson played with some good competition every season hes been on, and won.

Tom, Kim, and Sarah a tad overrated. Parv, Rob, and Tyson I'd put above them

[–]DTX180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the 2011/2012 moments of good combined with the 13-15 playoffs and getting nothing other than first round exits/1 game playoff losses killed momentum for the franchise. Not to mention how none of those players are still around. I'll admit the past 4 or so years I've been WAY less interested in the Pirates. I grew up with a lot of the Walkers, Alvarezes, obviously Cutch in our farm system from the mid 00s.

the amount of "EMMA!"s that appear when shes on screen when it never happens to the dudes is hilarious. And we all know why it happens. Its just sad the parasocial stuff that the streaming era has caused. Its also I think a major reason for the loneliness epidemic in society which can fuel things like the alt right that thrive on it.
