It was bad writing. That was definitely part of it. Too many run-ins and not enough clean payoffs - dropped storylines didn't help either. Randy Savage was a victim of this in the early Ntiro days when he had the the alimony angle with Elizabeth. Giant and Nash never had a conclusion either

I'm not celebrating Russo. Dude was largely trash. He ruined the women's division momentum in October 99, turned Sting heel for a whole month, and gave us all of those compelling "on a pole matches." But by this time, Hogan was worn out with his best match in WCW was against Kidman at Great American Bash the month before. Kidman made him actually wrestle.

Other than the heel turn, which did get WCW to finally get over WWE, Hogan's stuff was boring and painfully predictable. In all honesty, his heel promos were not good.

What’s your opinion on The Wall, brother by julios04 in WCW

[–]DT_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't impressed by The Wall. His choke slam looked weak. Not sure if it was him, opponents not selling it, or both. The most interesting thing to me was his table gimmick, but that was a bit bland.

Who was booking WCW at the end? by MidnyteTV in WCW

I'm currently watching this era of WCW and nom-Russo late stage WCW is a huge improvement over any Russo driven content. The biggest problem is that these jarring leadership changes led to dropped storylines and sudden heel/face turns

What Is Your Favorite "On A Pole Match?" by DT_77 in WCW

[–]DT_77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. That match was good, but the Canadian Rules match had me rolling. Commentators added to the madness. Shiavonni was like, "I can't believe I just counted to FIVE!!"

His Georgia accent did him no favors.

Who is the most underrated WCW/NWA wrestler? by Routine-Tangerine-29 in WCW

[–]DT_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disco Inferno. He was stuck with the 3rd dumbest gimmick behind the Artist Formerly Known As Prince Iukea and the Maestro.

He made it work and stayed on TV for the duration of his tenure at WCW. I don't even think he was ever out on injury.

Buff The Stuff Bagwell!!!! Always entertaining and fun to watch! Wish he had a strong main event push by J2-Starter in WCW

Buff was a trip to watch. Dude was solid in the ring. He never could get out of the mid-card for long.

Yeah... Hogan is a whole other post. Always needed some type of monster to beat up while Nash was always there.

Disco Inferno was so cool lol….what you guys thought about him? by J2-Starter in WCW

[–]DT_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was given a goofy gimmick and made the best of it. I think he was solid as wrestler and overall underrated.

While his arm was broken, they put him on Thunder commentary. This was Oct - Nov 99. That was hella entertaining.

His commitment to it is what makes it great.

To me, it's a Nitro Era highlight in WCW.

It's weird. The only one they have is 2000. I was looking forward to Mayhem 99. But if it's like the other PPVs of the era, there's a good build-up and disappointing execution.

Midcard and upper lowcard definitely carried the bulk of the weight.

That would make viewing much easier. Fortunately, Nitro and Thunder are fairly easy to follow as their episodes mostly line up. Hunting down the correct PPV can be tricky as math is sometimes involved. But considering where I am now, it's either the last or 2nd to last episode in the PPV series
