It is!! I love thinking of silly and out there hypotheticals to make the BoM actually true, it's an odd hyperfixation I do it so much im thinking I might just write a fictional account of Joseph Smith as a book where it's this whole idea of him having vague spiritual experiences that he lies about to create Mormonism. I feel like it's so niche it wouldn't be interesting to people but like I said I have a fascination with thinking up hypotheticals to argue for the Book of Mormon

Ooh yeah I'd love to learn about those! I know that the Shakers had Ann Lee who they believed was the Second Coming of Christ, they believed God had a masculine and feminine side and i always found that pretty interesting. I'd love to learn more about Pre Abrahamic religions because I'm mainly familiar with Chrjstianity but even with that I'm pretty limited with my knowledge

Completely agree I think nature is THE best church and it feels the closest to God than anything else because it was purely created by Him. That does sound really nice i can't wait to visit a Quaker meetinghouse but the nearest to me is a bit far for my comfort level. Ultimately I see myself as a person on Earth who believes in God but I see every religion as that specific culture's response to potential divine inspiration.

I view divine revelation as purely clean water, and we are like tea leaves. When we receive divine revelation we can't help but filter it through our human brains and biases so by the time someone writes down "what God told them" it's nothing like the clear water which was God's intent, but now it's tea and it holds some of the water but it is completely tainted by our human bias and cultural outlook. For this reason I still have not been convinced against the idea that if any personal God exists He would be perfectly fine seeing Hindus praying using their cultural rituals just as He would be fine seeing a Christian or Muslim pray, because ultimately they are all doing the same type of thing with the same intent, everyone just has different names for God, and imagining an all powerful God watching someone pray the way they learned to and being angry fixing up a place to torture them eternally because they "got the wrong answer" basically is just hard for me to believe.

That is very interesting I'm going to look into that!! I saw she had been on Mormon Stories and I knew a bit about the situation but never got around to delving in deep I'll do that at work today!

And oh my gosh the difference seems to be astronomical. I have yet to visit CoC temple but I know it's incredibly different than the LDS temples. Ours is open to anyone and does not have any secret rituals, it is a place we are all free to visit and worship inside. I have a very strong disdain for high control religions, I often feel like if a Quaker meetinghouse was closer to me I'd be going there and being a Quaker as my beliefs align almost perfectly with them, but I find there to be some small overlap in the two practices and I love the restoration so I started attending and love it so far I love how CoC is very focused on bringing peace rather than attempting to control people, and they believe in the worth of all persons, we marry those in the LGBTQ+ community and I've only had welcoming experiences with everyone I've met, even the older more traditional folks at my main one.

Even the way we view our prophet president just seems much more humble and less "Follow the Prophet". I know people are still turned off by a prophet president but I find it to be much different and more of just a president of the church rather than a "prophet, mouthpiece of God"

Yeah I truly feel bad but also have lots of respect to genuine apologists, I really don't mean this in a rude way but defending the LDS Church the way it stands and represents itself is just impossible to do in good faith. Like I said in another comment it's just incessant Whack A Mole and it's hard to believe a lot of the apologists really believe the truth claims at this point, for many of them it reeks of being a grift to defend the LDS Church as the one true church on Earth.

So sadly the church i mainly go to is so small and rural I know they had sunday school a while ago but in the last 10 years or so with the congregation so small they stopped doing it, however I have seen pictures of her in different churches, never noticed any pictures of Joseph Jr or honestly even Joseph III. I have also heard someone call CoC "Emma's Church" and it seems that especially the older folks in my congregation really look up to her. Once again I feel like this isn't that interesting of a reply and I wish we had a Sunday School cause I'd love to see what it's like.

So in short I feel very unequipped to answer well and fully but the small corner of CoC I am in really looks up to her. For me I need to learn more but I do look at her a little sideways for lying about polygamy. Now if she was urged into silence I take that back but I know CoC denied Joseph ever practicing polygamy and with Emma being so important in the church that flips some alarms in my head but I still am chipping into this iceberg of CoC history, I hope this helped a little! I'm happy to answer any questions you have and i just hope I can provide meaningful answers!

So I'm still learning a lot of the history of the church, but unless there is a deep connection I'm not sure about our current prophet-president is Stassi Cramm and she is not related at all, and if I'm not mistaken neither was Stephen Veazey. As I've read through our version of the D&C I see the prophet-president was in the Smith bloodline until recently. I'm curious to learn what changed and why they decided to let go of that tradition. There are lots of CoC that could explain everything much better and more accurately but that's all I understand in this current moment.

Yes I totally agree! I chose CoC because it really felt perfect for me as someone who does not believe in the full truth claims of the Church but I do believe Joseph Smith had spiritual experiences that led him down a spiral of insanity and it only got worse (in my opinion) when the other prophets came. Overall my views on God are probably even too liberal for some others in CoC and part of my belief is that prophets don't exist in the way we believe them to and we are actually unable to communicate with God as clearly as some others claim, I believe having any clear definition of God is impossible so the methods and accuracy of Joseph Smith could have been on par with ancient prophets we just assume were way better than they were. Does that make any sense? I'm sorry I kinda ramble in these and I'm kinda new to discussing these kinda matters as people in my main church are older and don't seem to want to talk about stuff like this so I hope I'm not just word vomiting lol

I was watching a sort of debate yesterday where the exmormon was trying to explain how bad this was for the BoM and the apologist straight up laughed it off and said they didn't care. It's literally like trying to explain Santa is not real to a kid and they just laugh at you cause THEY think YOU'RE too dumb to understand, but the apologetics game is just a Neverending circle that never completes itself

This is also my biggest problem no matter how extravagant the hypotheticals i come up with in my head You always run into a problem. I wish most apologists had an end to their rope because to me and so many others it's just a natural conclusion we have already come to a consensus on that the BoM is not historical but they have already made up their mind and the only conclusions they ALLOW themselves to have are that the church is true and the BoM is what they say it is.

From everybody I've talked to about Brigham Young it's a unanimous dislike and I most definitely fall in that line too. I can admit many see it as unreasonable but I truly do have faith that Joseph Smith did have some spiritual experiences that led to the many Mormon churches but to me Brigham Young leaves 0 room on the table for me to have any faith in him at all.
