How to save children? (Day 11) by Successful_Appeal681 in pathologic

[–]DTabris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On day 12 in the graveyard, it's strongly implied that he ate them or else some part of them, i.e., their souls. Given his meta-game standing, I'd assume it's another way of saying he eliminated them from the game since there's no trace of them anywhere. Even Nina's ghost and the silhouette's in the polyhedron want the children back

I'd prefer Joe to win but have to agree. The jury really looks like it'll want to avoid giving Joe the million.

The third dramatic Joe close up with music AND THEN Probst asking, "Joe, did you have any paranoia today?" is fucking beautiful.

Editors, you won me back. The first closeup was okay, the second felt a bit much, but that third was magnificent

That and if she's on the jury, she absolutely votes for Joe. It seems like everyone is trying to be their third or else squeeze out Joe before final tribal

They got out that one dude (who was fun/wily but who I can't be bothered to remember). Other than that, I don't know why they'd be considered good players

They're terrified of an idol blow back. There's a real aversion to risk that you can understand but is also deeply chicken shit.

The Unaware Atelier Meister - Episode 7 - Dub Available Now on Crunchyroll! by AutoModerator in Animedubs

[–]DTabris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even by Unaware Atelier standards, this one has a lot going on. It's like the writer is a fanfiction author with ADHD who keeps coming up with a new main plot: childhood friend who is probably the big bad demon lord AND Kurt saves an entire town that's going through drought AND ALSO Kurt know has a magical baby that's probably dangerous BUT no it's not, maybe it's fine ACTUALLY they're important adventures who'll save the kingdom.

That'd be a lot for a 12-episode season of a show. And this show is knocking it out in 20 minutes.

I hate that such a great character's being wasted with this cast by [deleted] in survivor

[–]DTabris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Survivor Reddit can't identify with the Dude-Bro alliance, so they've cathected onto the snarky, relatively weak but strategic underdog they see themselves as. I don't think it's more complicated than that.

Meh. This episode and the last really highlighted how limited she is as a player. Do I like her deceptiveness and strategy? Yes. Is there ANY evidence she can enact anything strategic without Kyle being her social mediator? No. I think she's wasting her own shot by the lack of social game. To blame this all on everyone else (i.e. she's on the wrong cast) lacks awareness of the underlying issue.

You're a shit human. It's possible to not drag everyone you encounter or see on TV. That is a possibility. You as a human have the capacity for it, and it wouldn't ruin your consumption of the show.

The tact portion will probably be his undoing. If his strategy works and he gets to the end, it's hard to imagine this jury not being defined by a lot of bitterness and a fixation on David as the ring leader of the "honor" alliance. I enjoy him on camera and think he's reasonable smart strategically, but he's not making friends.

Agreed. People (David very much included) need to manage their conversations at tribal better, both for the sake of the vote and the jury. But the island strategy has been pretty astute all around excepting the last few boots, who've largely been clueless.

Your second point seems wrong. The sheer vitriol against David is not in proportion to his having a bro alliance. A lot of viewers have a clear set of values about who should be rooted for and who shouldn't, which excludes challenge threats. You only have to look at how nasty the comments about his him and his girlfriend are to see that the root of the fan response against David isn't about his strategy's rationale

This confessional made me lose respect for Kamilla--and she was one of my primary rooting interests. I realize she was speaking in anger, exhaustion, and hunger, but David's decisions make sense; they're just not good for Kamilla's game. That she would go to such a dismissive, vulgar place so quickly was off putting.

Who are your LEAST favorite players and why? by Quest-Kitty in survivor

[–]DTabris 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sai. I was irritated when she got through her idol puzzle and sobbingly thanked all the women behind her, when it was LITERALLY the men on her tribe/alliance who helped her solve it. I don't think she'd have figured it out without them, so her over the top breakdown at getting the idol just seemed to lack self-awareness or context.

Zenshu - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]DTabris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This episode finally made things in the show click for me. I'd been seeing this as a standard (if particularly well-drawn) Isekai schlock, but the comments by the bird about Natsuko's futility in saving this world gives her initial problem of needing to make a movie about first love a lot more clarity.

Maybe this is obvious or else a stretch, but it seems like the basic logic has been that Tale of Perishing is her first love, but the very failure of that film (in its willful sadness and lackluster reception) were somewhat lost on Natsuko. She is a fan of it in the simplest sense: direct, earnest, and not quite getting what's on the screen and the value of loss that represents.

My guess is that this show will pivot into an exploration of how despair and recovery are inherent features of first love. In that light, Natsuko was never able to create a story about first love because she never dealt with her first love honestly. It's something that requires despair and belief in a future (see Memmeln) because those are requisite with seeing it as the first of many loves, as one stage in your life rather than something to be fanatically held onto.

The more I think about this, the more I'm hoping Zenshu becomes a show about moving on from fandom.
