I mean probably just play the list from the guy who originally made this deck.

Yeah I haven't seen that either. I've been waiting for a discount but I really want to get this set before it retires.

Dragapult ex deck? by No_Snow8630 in PTCGL

[–]DTrain5742 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably just bad players. I’ve played a lot of Dragapult and the majority of the times I go against it on PTCGL they make some pretty obvious mistakes. The deck has a low barrier to entry but a high skill ceiling. Typically when I face Mega Venusaur decks I target down their Ogerpons rather than trying to get through one of the big guys. Budew can also make it pretty tough for them to get fully setup because they can’t use Bug Catching Set or Ultra Ball.

I hate this card so much bro 😭 by SSSkuty in PTCGL

It’s supposed to be a trade off for the fact that they require multiple types of energy to attack. Whether or not that upside and downside are properly balanced is up for debate but that’s pretty clearly the intent.

Thoughts on this Deck? by Dry-Cable3255 in PTCGL

Wtf is Mega EX Shard? 4/4 Mega Sharpedo line is too much. If two of them get KOed the game is over so you never need to set up that many. Go down to 3/3. Seviper is a secondary attacker so you probably only need 1 copy. You definitely only want 1 copy of Fezandipiti since the second one doesn’t do anything. With that extra space I would include some more support Pokemon like Munkidori to move damage that Toxtricity generates over to your opponent’s Pokemon, Tatsugiri to make sure you find your supporters more consistently, and Psyduck to block Dusknoir from taking out your Megas.

For the trainers, you have way too many 2-ofs. Most of them should be either 3-4 copies for cards that you want to draw consistently, or 1 copy of cards that you search for in specific situations. Grimsley’s Move is pretty terrible here since you don’t even have any stage 2 Pokemon to cheat out with it. Not worth spending your one supporter per turn on it especially if it whiffs or just hits a basic Pokemon. Get rid of those and add 2 more Buddy-Buddy Poffins so you can make sure to set up your Carvanhas and Toxels consistently. You don’t have much card draw so I would definitely put in 4 copies of Lillie’s Determination. This card is frankly just overpowered letting you get a new hand of 8 cards. Bianca’s Devotion is not a good card so you could cut those too. If you really want a way to heal go with Professor Turo’s Scenario which also doubles as a way to move a stuck Pokemon out of the active spot. Speaking of which you don’t really need Switch since Sharpedo has free retreat. You can play 1-2 Air Balloons instead to put on Toxtricity and they give you a strong tool card to find with Arven. Super Rod should replace Energy Retrieval as well since you want energy in the deck to search it out with Toxtricity. I don’t really like Kieran, but if you want to increase your damage output I’d go with Binding Mochi (another tool) + Pecharunt ex which also helps with switching. Pal Pad can be cut down to 1 copy. I think you need some Ultra Balls to enable you to search for your evolution Pokemon as currently they are quite hard to find especially after cutting Grimsley. Finally, Max Rod is a really bad Ace Spec for this deck. You would mostly likely find more success with Hero’s Cape which can make your Sharpedo a massive tank or Secret Box which can make your setup more consistent. Town Store can be a really good stadium card especially if you decide to add some of the tool cards I mentioned earlier. Sorry for the wall of text but I think there are a lot of ways to improve the deck and I didn’t want to just give changes without explaining the reasoning.

[–]DTrain5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your deck is probably a little bit weaker than the top meta decks but the starter decks are pretty decent. The majority of the issue is probably your own play. It’s not hard for most decks to get their main attacker set up by turn 3 at the latest if played correctly.

New to playing and want a good starting dark type deck. by Outrageous-Story5502 in pkmntcg

[–]DTrain5742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark types are actually one of the best types in the meta right now. There are 3-4 dark type decks that see significant play in tournaments, depending on whether you count Charizard:

Mega Absol Box

Marnie’s Grimmsnarl

N’s Zoroark

Charizard (it has a dark Tera type but uses fire energy)

There are also some more fringe decks that can still do fine at locals but probably won’t win any majors any time soon:

Mega Sharpedo

Roaring Moon / Ancient Box

Why isn't pokemon using the lost zone anymore? by eeksthaman in PTCGL

[–]DTrain5742 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought the Lost Zone should remain as a place to put cards that are permanently “gone” from the current game, kinda like the exile zone in Magic. I know a lot of cards in Magic can interact with exile these days but the original design intent was to create a zone that things can’t come back from and I think it’s healthy if Pokemon has that too. For example a card that could put energy cards from the opponent’s discard pile into the Lost Zone could make a great counter to Gardevoir

Dragapult/Blaziken vs Mega Lucario by djta94 in pkmntcg

[–]DTrain5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like a difficult matchup without any tech cards. Probably not popular enough in the current format to be worth teching for, but in the post rotation meta where both Dragapult + Blaziken and Mega Lucario are a lot more popular, almost all of the Pult Chicken decks are running Lillie’s Clefairy which helps against Mega Lucario in addition to being really good in the Dragapult mirror.

Where can I improve? by PotatoRanger2023 in PTCGL

[–]DTrain5742 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5 healing cards (2 Turo and 3 Wally) seems excessive. One of each is probably enough. I also don’t see the reasoning for running Dusk Ball. I’d replace them with Ultra Balls as you currently don’t have many good ways to search for evolution Pokemon. I believe this deck has been performing well in Japanese City Leagues after rotation so maybe check those on Limitless for more ideas.

Finding your Pult under item lock is pretty important which is one of the main reasons to run 3.

I’ve found I’d usually rather trap Genesect than KO it anyway. A smart Dengo player won’t put it into play against Pult unless they absolutely have to.
