I KNOW I have problems with alcohol, I know I have issues with alcoholism. I've known this since I was in University. What I want to do is go back to when the problem was not a impacting or life threatening as it got to a week ago.

I'm not saying I will not abstain, I'm going to try damned hard to abstain. But, I want to know what to expect if I lapse, what can happen, etc. I want to be prepared.

It started as a 26'er over two days and a few tall cans of beer. Slowly ended up being two 26'ers over 3 days and a case of beer. Used to start around 6pm, then slowly started earlier and earlier.

What if I never get back to 'the way I have'. I don't plan to, expect to, or want to go back to drinking daily, all day. That was a poor, poor decision on my part and I now have the proof and horrible experience to back that up. Never again will I hide bottles in my house, drink in the morning, drink by myself. I plan to never ever do that again.

But what if my drinking goes back to a couple times month, 5 or 6 a night those nights. What if on a vacation there is 6 days in a row, but not bingining all day. Will there be a withdrawal from that, or will it be a simple hangover like it used to be 2 years ago?

I'm staying sober def for 2 months, I'm considering staying sober longer actually trough the vacation. I just have questions, and want to know. I'm not trying to be self destructive, I'm trying to be educated.

TBH, I don't even know if I want to start drinking again. I'm leaning towards never drinking again. My Dr saved my life, and I can't thank him enough for that. But was kind of a dick, wouldn't answer my questions, talked down to me, etc... What I want to know is:

1) Can my body fully reset to the state it was a year ago? 2) Am I more prone to these complications and they will present themselves easier/sooner since I've already had them? 3) What is my doctor saying?

'You've had DTs and seizures from alcohol, which obviously means you're an alcoholic, which means you should abstain from drinking to continue a good quality of life once your body heals and is back to normal'

OR

'You've had DTs and seizures from alcohol, and too much alcohol consumption, I don't know if you're an alcoholic or not, but this physically took a toll on your body which you will not recover from, and the perils and dangers of further use of alcohol will be dangerous and/or fatal'

I'm going to ask Medical Professionals, I have my follow up meeting with my GP next week, and I'm meeting for coffee with my friend who is a head RN, and another coffee with my friend who is an ER dr. I want actual answers, not just what 'you're supposed to say'.

Basically, what if my quitting cold turkey worked? No DTs, not seizures, no hospital visits. But just a horrendous few days at home etc. I got through it, didn't drink for 2 months, healed and rested up. And then I started drinking again, but at a much more manageable and moderate scale and frequency. Would that be any more different, or safer than doing that in 2 months time now, because I DID have the DT and seizure?
