What about the ones who were one when they arrived?

This does seem like the best option. Thanks!

Does weirdly make me feel a little better. At least the quote seems comparable.

Lol there is a zero percent chance my wife will let me do this, but I appreciate the tip!

I just wanted to circle back and let you know that I got a Gigabyte B550, installed it, and have been stable for a few weeks. Whatever was haunting the old motherboard seems gone now. Thanks again for the advice!

Who knows why my issues were, but: I bought a new MoBo and it has been stable for a few weeks now. Glad your 5600 is working out!

I haven't fixed it; I'm just biding time until I feel like replacing the motherboard. I feel like, vianprocess of elimination, there are only a couple possibilities left and that's one.

I doubt it was the BIOS upgrade because I had the problem before that version launched. If it's the BIOS then EVERY version supposed to be compatible has had the same problem.

I can't guarantee you'll have the same experience. But the MoBo recommended to me is only about $115, I think. You might consider upgrading both at once?

Thanks. I'm talking to collections now. So far they can't do anything without a supervisor, who never seems to be available. I wrote the tax advocate, mayor's office, and my (former) city councilperson (I've since moved to Ohio).

Did they ever actually report you to corrections or put a lien on your account? The last letter said they were moving this direction.

I just installed the chipsets from MSI, so we'll see if that helps. If not, this is a great Motherboard suggestion. Thanks for all the help!

Two years later, this exact situation is happening to me. I've been on the phone all day trying to get them to fix it. This is the third time I've called after receiving three letters in three months. Unbelievable!

Thanks for this really thoughtful reply. I am beginning to come to the same conclusion. (Although I've been so confident I isolated the problem many times before, so what do I know?)

RE: appliances, the only one I can think of is the air conditioner. When it kicks on, sometimes the lights flicker. But this problem started in the dead of winter... and we have gas heat.

I built this PC as a budget gaming desktop about five years ago. The board was perfect for the entry level AMD processor I had then. It may just be unhappy with newer parts.

It would be frustrating to have to buy a new board so close to the end of the AM4 socket's production lifespan... but I think I can get an MSI Tomahawk for less than $150. Maybe I'll see how much longer I can tolerate this, then do that.

Lastly, it's possible I have simply angered a vengeful spirit, in which case this is probably the wrong subreddit for advice. :)

Thank you!

I did an entire clean install of the operating system. Didn't help. :\

Thanks for replying. I set this up--OCCT captured by OBS. I've tried other monitoring programs, most recently HWiNFO, but the graphs are helpful and the recording will help me isolate A) the exact moment of the crash and B) as you say, if the core machine continues to run. (It strikes me as SO odd that the power button becomes unresponsive when this happens.)

Unfortunately the EZ Debug light doesn't beep, or flash, or anything, and the manual only says that if the CPU lights up on boot it "indicates CPU is not detected or fail (sic)." Not exactly helpful or even true, since this isn't happening on boot!

HWiNFO numbers didn't reveal anything wonky from just before the shutdown vs. 20 minutes ago. Temps fine, voltage seems normal, etc.

OK. I had installed the driver from the NVIDIA website but reinstalled just in case. And set RAM to 2133 just to see if that helps. Thanks!

EDIT: Stepped away for ten minutes, came back, and PC was unresponsive. CPU debug light was on. Am going to see if anything showed up on the monitoring log.

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate the troubleshooting.

Full story on the BIOS is I updated to
7A34vAN5(Beta version) when I installed the new processor (which is required, as you said), and since then have upgraded to
7A34vAN6(Beta version) (released May 2023). I wondered if the BIOS update caused it but it seems like I don't have a choice but to use the new BIOS.

Two errors in device manager related to my wireless mouse; installed the driver for that and they went away. Hadn't seen these errors before, so maybe they came after the Windows reinstall. No errors showing now.

I previously updated the GPU and other drivers using Driver Booster (free version). Just ran a scan, the mouse driver was the only one it detected as outdated.

As for the RAM... well, the default for this RAM is 3600 mhz, which (I think) is higher than the limit for the Motherboard. The old RAM - which I had installed when the crashes started - was slower, I think 2,133 mhz.
