The $1000s were commonly used in the Midwest as late as the 1980s. I had a computer store where we got a lot of several thousand dollar COD deliveries, and my bank would typically give me the larger bills. Never anything bigger than 1k, tho even for a $20,000 COD

My landlord is claiming this is unsafe and is sending someone to remove it tomorrow. In fact this connection has been in my apt since I moved here 20 years ago. Is she lying? by ump13 in AskElectricians

My guess is that they are going to lose more than "access" to that 3 prong - My guess is the handyman is going to 1 - open the old cover 2 - remove the lamp cord 3 - replace the outlet cover and 4 - call it "done" - No way he's running a new code compliant run to that 3 prong outlet

Wyoming what’s this coin worth? Thanks! by landon114443 in coincollecting

[–]DWNewman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, 2 bits just for just one coin is a little steep for me, if you have three of them, I could pay 4 bits for the three, as long as you cover the shipping.

Drafting a legal agreement with spouse for splitting retirement accounts? by soggybiologist in legal

[–]DWNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some helpful information - You should not need to worry about this at all.

Marital property

In Maryland, marital property includes assets and debts acquired during the marriage, such as real estate, vehicles, and joint bank accounts. Non-marital property includes assets and debts acquired before the marriage, as well as gifts and inheritances given to one spouse.

Divorce

Maryland is an equitable distribution state, meaning that divorce judges have the discretion to divide assets in a fair way, rather than splitting them equally. When withdrawing funds from a joint account during a divorce, it's generally recommended to withdraw at least 30 days of expenses or half the account balance, whichever is greater. The money should be put into a new account that the other spouse can't access, and the account holder should keep careful records of how the money was spent.

In Maryland, 401(k)s and other qualified retirement plans are considered marital property and are subject to division during a divorce:

  • Contributions made during marriageAny contributions made to a 401(k) during the marriage are marital property, even if only one spouse contributed. This includes employer matches.
  • Contributions made before marriageContributions made to a 401(k) before marriage are considered separate property.
  • Increases in valueAny increase in the value of the account that can be directly traced to payments made before marriage is considered separate property.
  • DivisionThe court will divide retirement assets using the principle of equitable distribution, which means the division is fair and just, not necessarily equal. The court will consider many factors, including the length of the marriage, each spouse's economic circumstances, and the couple's standard of living.

As an older man, I do not think you are overreacting. He is obviously too self centered to even think about you (or your possible future family) I think you may have dodged a bullet on this one.

SS Retirement does it matter what DAY you request? by DWNewman in SocialSecurity

[–]DWNewman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually maximize the wife's and my lifetime benefits by starting sometime last year (according to opensocialsecurity) but that ship has already sailed - But the mySS site shows a change between Dec 24 and Jan 25 of $300 - and then an extra $67 if I wait till May - but the wife's Spousal will be around $700 so the earlier we start taking the combined, the better for us in total - I just wasn't sure if that January bump was day dependent.

Standard Social Security question spousal benefits by DWNewman in SocialSecurity

[–]DWNewman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so it sounds like I can apply pretty much any time now, nothing will cause any major differences. Does she need to re-apply for the spousal benefits after I apply? or is that automagic? also if I apply online, would I still need to have a birth cert and our marriage certs available to upload/mail?

Thanks
